REVOLUTION SAINTS Parts Ways With DOUG ALDRICH And JACK BLADES, Recruits JOEL HOEKSTRA And JEFF PILSON

    October 31, 2022

REVOLUTION SAINTS has parted ways with guitarist Doug Aldrich (THE DEAD DAISIES, WHITESNAKE, DIO) and bassist/vocalist Jack Blades (NIGHT RANGER, DAMN YANKEES) and has replaced them with Joel Hoekstra (WHITESNAKE, NIGHT RANGER) and Jeff Pilson (FOREIGNER, DOKKEN, THE END MACHINE, BLACK SWAN),respectively.

Drummer/lead vocalist Deen Castronovo (JOURNEY) is the sole remaining original member of REVOLUTION SAINTS, which has released three albums so far — "Revolution Saints" (2015),"Light In The Dark" (2017) and "Rise" (2019).

Earlier today, the following message was posted on the REVOLUTION SAINTS Facebook page: "Ladies and gentlemen, a big update on the future of REVOLUTION SAINTS from vocalist/drummer Deen Castronovo! Joel Hoekstra & Jeff Pilson have joined and a new album, album #4, is coming in 2023 and album #5 is already being worked on. New single will be released this year.

"Huge, heartfelt thanks to Doug Aldrich & Jack Blades for lending their immense talents to the first three albums!"

Back in 2019, Deen hinted that "Rise" could be REVOLUTION SAINTS' final album. "If everybody's digging on what we're doing, I'm sure we'll do another one," he told Web Is Jericho. "But it all has to do with scheduling. That's the hardest part, is getting everyone together and setting aside time to do it. I hope we do another one, but we're not sure."

REVOLUTION SAINTS was originally formed as the vision of Frontiers Music Srl president Serafino Perugino, who for years had hoped to work on a project where Deen would be the lead vocalist. Having previously worked with all three artists on different projects on Frontiers, having Deen, Jack and Doug on board together was a dream come true for Perugino.

The "Rise" album was helmed by in-house Frontiers producer Alessandro Del Vecchio, with the recording process taking place in Milan and in Doug and Jack's own studios in California and Seattle. Songwriting was handled by Del Vecchio, Aldrich and Blades, with contributions from fellow Frontiers recording artist Dan Rossall (of U.K. newcomers PASSION). Of special note, the poignant ballad "Eyes Of A Child" was penned by Blades and Tommy Shaw (STYX, DAMN YANKEES).

Three masks? Don't be a madman. I'd not dream to leave the house with any less than seven on my face.

As for Cody; with three condoms, things would not fit, if you understand my sexy insinuation.

I don't know.... ever since Cody's movie "Horsin' Around", I think that his hole got very big after ole Trigger pulled the trigger.

I'd be beside myself with concern about this and could only trust that, much like every single other ridiculous prediction made during the "pandemic," this one will come true too!

A mask has not been removed in Australia over the past three years without some group of morons predicting armageddon because of it. Still folk amongst us who believe it'll still kill us all.

My prediction above the above story? Like every single other one of its kind during the "pandemic," it'll amount to absolutely nothing whatsoever.

Anyway, I know no one will watch it, but this video was interesting. Don't know if anyone else watches this guy. He's generally a very neutral observer and only quotes direct figures and stats, I guess hinting at an opinion every now and then. But even he skates on thin ice and has a youtube strike against him for "misinformation," such is the nature of censorship in 2022.

You better start wearing 3 masks! Sorta like the 3 condoms you use every time you go up into Cody.

Don't love it, don't dislike it. It's funny, that despite Phil Lewis not being in this version, it's still quite recognisable to me as LA Guns.

Musically speaking, it's probably quite a shame they can't get the original guys back together for a new recording. Separated, neither really hit the mark but I feel like together they perhaps still could. Oh well, doesn't sound like it'll ever be.

    Agreed!

Was is this you speak of?

Haven't watched the news for years now, so if it ain't in my Facebook feed I don't know about it.

It's a story in my post above:

As summer ended and the United States headed into the fall and winter, doctors were worried Americans would see a "twindemic" -- a situation in which both flu and COVID-19 spread at the same time.

But experts told ABC News the country may now be facing the threat of a "tripledemic" as doctors see an early rise in other pediatric respiratory viruses, particularly respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, respiratory illnesses are appearing earlier, and in more people, than in recent years.

The federal health agency says there has also been early increases in flu activity across most of the U.S. with indications that this season could be much more severe than the previous two seasons.

As of Monday afternoon, pediatric bed occupancy in the U.S. is the highest it's been in two years with 75% of the estimated 40,000 beds filled with patients, according to an ABC News analysis.

Corona virus thoroughly slowed down the music industry, and the momentum of Michael Bormann’s JADED HARD along with it, but new music is finally available from Bormann and company. Following up their 2019 debut album ‘Feels Like Yesterday‘, their second CD – ”Power To Win” (because these 5 musicians wouldn’t let themselves be defeated!) will be released on October 28, 2022.

”Power To Win” once again showcases the power and expressiveness of Michael Bormann‘s legendary voice and the full range of his songwriting skills.

In the usual manner, this is AOR / Melodic Rock at its finest – from up-tempo songs that will delight the rockers heart, to powerful ballads that will melt the hearts of women and men alike. But there is also something new.

To bring in a breath of fresh air and new nuances to ”Power To Win”, Michael worked with other songwriters: Bruno Kraler on ‘When I Look In Your Eyes‘, Pete Alpenborg on ‘Little White Lies‘, Fredrik Joakimsson on ‘A Step Away From Heaven‘, and Michael Maikel Müller on ‘Hysteria‘, ‘Wrong And Right‘, and ‘When She’s Good‘, resulting in a much more varied and dynamic album.

Michael Bormann is back in full force 2022 with his sarcastically named band Jaded Hard. I’ve been following Michael’s career for several decades and when he left Jaded Heart in 2004, the band continued on but was never the same. Unlike a band like Dynazty, who successfully progressed from Hard Rock to Melodic Metal, Jaded Heart’s attempt at a heavier sound was not as solid as their past material.

Mr. Bormann then decided to carry the melodic sound of his former band forward to his new band JADED HARD.

There are some fabulous songs on offer here. Album opener ‘Nothing But a Photograph’ starts off slow and moody before kicking into double time gear and delivering solid melodic goodness with those rich, harmonic overdubs that Bormann is known for.

‘Little White Lies’ has that classic Jaded Heart sound that I use to look forward to with every one of their old releases. Solid melodies with soaring choruses.

The late Jimi Jamison once sang “It’s The Singer, Not The Song”. This perfectly encapsulates the ballad ‘Just Wanna Fall In Love’. An old school grandiose power ballad that exudes beauty in its simplicity. Michael sells the song with the passion in his vocals. What would otherwise be a standard by the numbers track becomes something more and it is his best vocal performance on the album. Magnificent.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have ‘Domino’. Not just the best song on this album, but one of the best songs of this year. An unassuming verse gives way to an explosive chorus that kicks your ass! The way Michael screams the title of the song sends chills up my spine. Perfect pitch, power, and layers of vocals makes this one of the best songs he has ever recorded, and he’s recorded a lot of great stuff. The arpeggio over the main riff is the icing on the cake. A flawless rocker.

Atmospheric ‘Wrong and Right’ speaks to me personally as we have a serious problem these days with simply agreeing to disagree with each other. He sings about the tragedy of not respecting each other’s worldview and it’s quite timely and tragically beautiful. The refrain of the word “hysteria” and Michael’s enunciation in the chorus is quite effective.

The album does have a few songs that could have been great, but different production sound decisions were made, and those decisions weaken the songs. I was a little let down by the title track. It’s an effective mid-tempo rocker with a Survivor-vibe but the chorus is lacking and a little dry. It sounds like it is missing an instrument in the background of the chorus. If they had added keyboards or even open guitar chords, it would have filled out the sound and made a big difference.

I would love to know what happened in the recording of the ride cymbal in the song ‘Heaven’. The ride is loud and upfront during the chorus, louder than every other instrument. The sound produced is like metal utensils being banged against a porcelain plate. It’s so distracting it ruins what would otherwise be a solid sing-along song.

We can definitively say that if you loved their last album, then this one certainly matches, maybe even exceeds their prior effort. The stronger songs are found on the latter half of the album, so if you choose to stream, make sure you listen to every song.

All fans of older Jaded Heart should feel grateful that Michael has not given up on the musical style that made them so beloved in this genre and that he has blessed us with another winning album.

  8. DAWN AFTER DARK – New Dawn Rising (2022)

    VARIOUS SOURCES -  PUBLISHED OCTOBER 26, 2022

DAWN AFTER DARK - New Dawn Rising (2022) - full

Between 1986 and 1989, Birmingham-based band DAWN AFTER DARK toured all over the UK, playing many headline shows, as well as touring with Balaam And The Angel, Wolfsbane, Living Colour, etc. With 3 EP’s Dawn After Dark were recognized as one of the UK’s best live bands, but internal combustion saw the group implode in 1991.

Now they’re back in business, and finally releasing a full length album titled ”New Dawn Rising”, a classic rocker with a sound akin to ’80s The Cult, aided by a superb production from talented guitarist Andy Taylor, who knows a thing or two about harnessing the power of an Eighties rock guitar.

Some tracks were written back in the late ’80s however never recorded, some are re-workings, some others are new but all have that steamy, beer flavored riff-driven rock n’ roll feel from the glorious decade.

The album kicks off with a classic and updated cut of Maximum Overdrive which is a killer like it always had been. It screams and does so as a solid opener. Then we slide over to The Day That The Word And I Parted Company which grabs you and fires you in a different direction (enough hi-hat action to make it all feel surreal) which then amps it up to the punch of Dead On Time which brings this album up again in a glorious wave.

Now we are 3 tracks in and it’s ringing gloriously already… where to go from here? The album returns to familiar territory again with a fresh angle of their classic track The Groove. It rides that out without a misstep and then the slightly slower drive of When Will You Come Home To Me which gives itself another slower pace before erupting into a 40 second burst of full energy before sliding back down.

New song Nothing Can Fulfil Me (Without Your Love) jumps up and slaps you in the face with a BPM and drive that amps up the album again before swinging it lower to The Shifting Sands Of Time – and swing it does.

Then we move riding on that Crystal High and another great modern take on a classic Dawn After Dark track. It can only grind sweetly on a slightly more sombre vibe of (I’m Not) The Man I Used To Be and revisiting Her Sleep which takes you backwards a touch and to the forefront again.

Then to close the CD off we have Truth And Freedom which feels like an old school amalgamation of genre swinging noize and a cooler edge.

Dawn After Dark nailed it. The new material, the ’80s never recorded song and the re-recordings of classic tracks work in full flow and when I say flow, it flows greatly.

With most bands when they re-record tracks and give new material decades later you often wonder how it will play out. But here the Drums pound, Guitars ring in a tonal expulsion that drives compelling riffs and grooves. Collectively as a band and as a rock n’ roll album – it shines.
