  1. Rocker Sammy Hagar has blasted his former Van Halen bandmates' comeback album, revealing it left him cold and unimpressed when he heard it.

The band's former frontman was not asked to be part of the group's 2012 plans and now he's glad he missed out because he's convinced the band's February album will leave fans feeling cheated.

He tells Radio Metal, "What I've heard so far, I wasn't impressed with at all, personally... I think they chose to take the easy route and take some of their old stuff and re-record it instead of writing new songs... I don't think the fans are going to be happy with it.

"I couldn't care less if it's the biggest album of the year; that wouldn't be important to me. What is important to me is that, as artists, why would you do that? They haven't released an album since my last album in something like 1991 or 1992, and then they just go back. To me, it makes a strange statement, it kind of says, 'We don't have anything, we're not a band anymore, we're not creative.'

"To be honest with you, the last time I was around those guys was in 2004 on the reunion. It was a disaster, it was horrible... I don't know what they're thinking, to be honest with you."

And Hagar believes the pressure to record finally got to his former bandmates: "I don't think they had any choice. If they had had a choice they would've done all new stuff. From today. They would've written together like a band... I think there's zero inspiration and zero creativity."

Replacing Hagar and longtime Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony in the group is original singer David Lee Roth and Van Halen's son Wolfgang.

  2. Wow, Van Halen ARE causing a stir............who'd have guessed ;-))

The sad part is, reading this thread is more entertaining than listening to their new album... :gone:

You're right. I was really looking forward to this album, but what I've heard so far just disappoints .... a bit like the two 'new' tracks with DLR that they added to their 'The Best Of ...' CD ... we were promised the moon and the stars, and got neither. Obviously, this makes me some sort of heretic in certain quarters, but I've loved this band for over 25 years, and my view is that their just tarnishing their reputation.

I look forward to being proved wrong.

I actually thought those two tacks were nice - especially Can't Get This Stuff No More. Miles better than "tattoo, tattoo" being droned over and over again like a stuck record.

  3. I dunno... I was rather underwhelmed. It's a'ight I guess but I would've expected their big comeback single to sound bigger 'n' badder.

I was wondering if I was gonna have to say it first. It's really...just bad. And please, someone tell DLR to stop dancing.

    Thank You.

Agreed! David still can't sing and the song has no hooks or anything just droning vocals of "tattoo, tattoo..." Also, someone should tell "Wolfgang" that he needs to lose weight pronto.

  4. I'd be surprised if the Van Halen one gets released. It's another Chinese Democracy in the making.

Actually they're planning for a February release followed by tour, so if anything happens, probably going to be late for 3-4 months but should've been released this year

Yeah, it is pretty much confirmed now that the album is going to be out around February 7 (depending on where you live it's the 6th or 8th)! Saw some footage over at blabbemouth where they have shown the new album cover on Times Square on New Year's Eve, so that's probably a good sign.

Who cares? If the new album sounds a lot like their new single "Tattoo" then I'm not very excited. Dave still can't sing and there are zero hooks or melodies. Yawn.

Sitting in the vaults since 2006 finally comes the long awaited release of JJT -- the ultimate Melodic Hard Rock Power Trio that mixes all the great elements of 70's and 80's hard rock with modern production and alot of attitude!! Featuring highly touted guitar icon Jimmy Crespo (of AEROSMITH, Flame, Adam Bomb), with killer bassist/vocalist Tommy Paris (of BRITNY FOX, Jillson, Divine Judgment) and undoubtedly one of the greatest drum gods on the west coast Jamie Borden (of Jillson, Stranger, Divine Judgment, and a regularly featured drum clinician who has released many videos and is currently a major contributor to the world's ONLY internet drum magazine idrummag.com).

This explosive combo has put together a fantastic infectious slab of hard hitting, face-melting, ball-busting hard rock which clearly shows off the distinct, signature sounds of each member -- with Crespo's stinging fluid bluesy 70's-style licks ; Borden's slamming progressive powerhouse double-bass drumming with a nice dose of funk combined with some of the most amazing and blindingly fast fills (from hands AND feet!) you will ever hear!! All this combined with Tommy Paris's bass grooves, his rip-your-face-off vocals and his own brand of melodic songwriting, with his stacked big vocal harmonies, that will be familiar to all you Jillson and Britny Fox fans!!

We at Retrospect are absolutely stoked to be able to offer up this hard rock gem and can't recommend it highly enough -- we believe it to be one of the strongest albums of the 2000's and one of the best on our label -- we think you will agree!! Nothing less than essential....

  6. Its like the constant complaints that the lyrics are obvious as well. Well if that is a reason to slate them, then slate 90% of the rock, glam and metal scene, cause lyrically most songs are unoriginal and obvious, and you know exactly what words they are going to rhyme the words rock, love and hell with etc.

Its fucking rock music, just a blown up version of what we all love, and maybe thats what some people dont like. They dont like the fact that what Steel Panther is doing is exposing how smutty so many rock lyrics are.

Their lyrics are not smutty, they're juvenile/teenage-porn nonsense that is funny once and embarrassing afterwards. Reckless Love etc might follow the 80's cheese, but they try and keep it subtle enough so the quality music does the talking. SP don't keep it subtle, and so their (otherwise pretty good) music gets lost in the smutty and mostly pathetic jokes. Sure it's fun on first listen, but they are not a band to be taken seriously as a top-act nor one that makes albums with any longevity at all. A novelty band.

100% backed. Good music ruined by the ridiculous lyrics.
