  1. Yeahh, i liked the tracks on the boxset but when it was first announced the 13 year old fan of Slippery When Wet that i was expected it to be a bunch of kickass 80s rock tunes along the lines of the better part of crossroad....I even imagined it being in a black slipcase with the old skool Jovi logo on it.....so when it arrived it was the complete opposite of what i'd expected but i still liked the tunes...even still, they say that they 'never go back to the past' yet they released a boxset of 'old' recordings!! Why the aversion to the songs that they did in the 80s? I mean i know that Love is War and Lets Make It Baby were both officially released, but i want them on the album theyre supposed to be on!!! (Not as a B-Side or a bonus track on an album that came out 6 years later! And it was on the 2CD version at that, which i do not own -_-) this would be the perfect opportunity....

I still think they should re-record the old demos that never quite made it to the album production stage and re-release New Jersey as the 2 disc version that it was supposed to be....one of the songs that i thought would be awesome if it was ever finished was Stand Up, and Too Much Too Soon....i think they easily have 2 or 3 albums worth of kickass unreleased 80s material!

  2. No. Fucking. Way.

I just bought Crush, an album that ive had for years on CDR and never bothered replacing as its not particularly good....proud of the fact that i now own every Bon Jovi album (except One Wild Night) i added it to the collection...

This is shite, im interested in the new artwork/liner notes/packaging but the bonus tracks are just a way to make it look pretty by the looks of things!!! How bout New Jersey with Love Is War, Let's Make It Baby and Growing Up The Hard Way (or any of the better sounding unused recordings they have from that album!!!) as bonus tracks? Lindsay knows better than anyone that theres a bunch of great songs they never released and even if they are just in demo form....they'd still make more worthwhile bonus tracks (Megadeth and Blue Oyster Cult did it on their reissues!)

There were some great cuts from Slippery When Wet too....why not just release the stupid things already if they insist on reissuing their catalogue every 5-10 years!

Saying that, I will probably end up buying the first 4 albums at some point (when they too are in the bargain bin) just because theyre 4 of my favourite albums and the live cuts of Livin on a Prayer (87 MTV awards?), Wanted Dead or Alive (MTV acoustic set?) and Get Ready (85 Tokyo gig?) are pretty good if theyre the ones im thinking of.....then again, it'll probably be the same Blood and Blood that was on the 2cd version of crossroad (which I ofcourse bought that aswell -_- )

  3. The only other LA Guns singer i liked was Ralph Saenz (Michael Starr), but Phil will always be the voice of LA Guns, i have a lot of respect for the guy, as a man and a musician :)

He's not even paying any attention to this band, when i mentioned Marty Casey to him he didnt know what i was on about and i think he'd been in the band for about 6 months at that point?

  4. I'm sure i made a couple of replies to this thread earlier :s

nothing i can see about the band ....

only that you were in it, learnt everything and got the boot.

just wondering how you got tied up with such a band as it doesn't seem your scene.

Yeah my post was about the band :P

I dunno tbh, i listen to alot of music anyway and when i found out that they were looking for a guitarist i jumped on the chance, they have the look, and i was a fan of the music....the singer is obviously the goth one, the bassist (Jez's mate Davy) is a huge Manson fan but generally the idea for them was glam rock with other rock influences thrown in.....i loved that, and i'd hoped to bring a Slash kind of sound to the fold, the late 80s sleaze scene...their biggest influences are bands like GnR, Kiss, Motley Crue etc...

but in terms of their music, i really liked Nobody Said It Was Gonna Be Easy (best song on the album), Heartache, M.I.A and Rip Off Britain :)

I don't think i got a decent chance, to this day....but i gotta say, they're damn good  i was proud to call myself a member even if it was just for a week :)

just annoys me that they couldnt give me a few more days to practice the songs, but hey, thats all in the past....as long as it doesnt come back to bite me in the ass anymore (there was a certain comment from Jef a few weeks ago that was uncalled for)

but yeah, im not really sure what the bigger deal is for me, the achievement of getting in the band or the embarrassment of being kicked out a week later :P I'm still not sure that i got booted for the reasons they gave me tho, Davy seemed real happy with my progress up until that last rehearsal (judging by things he posted on other peoples facebooks, myspaces etc)

still, great album if you like something abit different (personally i like The Cure and Jesus and Mary Chain) but i wont be buying it for obvious reasons (apart from already owning it for the last 3 months on CDR :P)

I can see them going far, and i hope they do :)

  5. eh, i don't know what happened but i learnt 10 songs in a week from just chord charts, 5 of which i only got the charts a day before the last rehearsal...

I dunno why they kicked me out, they said it was cause i changed the riffs to make them easier...i was just playing them in my own style, sounded close enough to the original tho :)

still, atleast i got in the band in the first place and learnt an entire album in 6 days without proper music...i'm happy with that, i never expected to pass the audition!

  6. Alot of people think im an 80s nut because my fave band is Bon Jovi, but to be honest, my favourite albums are easily Keep The Faith, These Days and to a degree Bounce...the 90s were when they released their best music i think....

although you gotta love the first two albums, i dont think theyre as good musically as KTF and These Days, both are quite underrated i believe :)

  7. There are a couple of unreleased songs around the net....Desperate Hearts written by Jeff Pilson, and Crown Of Falsehood written by Zakk Wylde...

although im not sure how authentic they are, i mean i thought there was a full length version of Reckless but it turned out it was the Phoenix Down original....but i have 9 songs on my MP3 player under the Steel Dragon name :P

I think I heard that before. On the Steel Dragon Wikipedia page, it lists that there really is a SD cover of Reckless. I wonder where one could get it. And the others. That would be incredible. (In lieu of getting this incredible double disc album.)

ill upload Desperate Hearts and Crown Of Falsehood when i can get them off my computer :)

  8. it's funny that people mention the quality of the vocals on the dvd. That was one of the first things i noticed. I've seen Bon Jovi live quite a few times over the past 10 years and haven't heard the vocals sounding like that in a long while. Jon's vocals have been very nasaly of late, but there seems to be more body or grunt to the vocals on this dvd.

which leads me to 3 theories....

    1) Singing like he did on the dvd causes him a bit of trouble (ie with his damaged voice) so he brought out the big voice for the dvd filming, whereas usually he has to protect his voice a bit more, or

    2) there has been a bit of touching up of the vocals, or

    3) i'm completely mistaken

But, yes.... there is definite noticible difference to the vocals on this dvd.

I thought he sounded pretty good when i saw them in 06 and this is when Bon Jovi were the only band i listened to :P

but saying that i think its likely that they all put more effort in for the purpose of the DVD, isnt it the first release from them in HD and 7.1?

  9. There are a couple of unreleased songs around the net....Desperate Hearts written by Jeff Pilson, and Crown Of Falsehood written by Zakk Wylde...

  10. Speaking about the new DVD, Live At Madison Square Garden - I own it and it's superb. Very good setlist for my taste, good shape of Jon's voice, impressive sound and sight.

I've given Bon Jovi my fair share of whacks over recent times but this one will be different !!!!!!!!

What Vytas has said about this DVD is spot on......This DVD is a must for any old Bon Jovi fans who liked them when they rocked....Just check out "Dry County" on this !!!!!!!

A great set list {except for 1 or 2 off Lost Highway}, great sound, great visual and just an all round great show.

The great sound was also helped by a second guitarist lurking in the background along with the entire band being in really top form indeed.

Jon's voice was very good and Richie doing the vocals on "I'll Be There For You" has to be seen and heard as this one really surprised me just how good he was !!!!

This is the Bon Jovi I remember and I thoroughly recommend to all who once liked them, to go out and get this one pronto !!!!!!!!

A brilliant DVD with Bon Jovi at their best

    wow :yikes:

coming from you Dave that means ALOT, i have to get this DVD in my grubby little hands ASAP!!!

  11. been watching some vids on youtube lately (and looking through LOTS of photos)

i gotta say that Take It Off actually isnt too bad! i learnt to play it today cause i had 5 mins to spare and figured playing along to the video on youtube would give me a reason to look at Brett

I'm practically in love with her and her suggestive lyrics :P
