  1. Was just thinking about this yesterday when I was writing a few words on the U.F.O 'Headstone' CD on the main pages. This disc is now a full live album from the Hammersmith Odeon gig back in 1983, which I was lucky enough to attend. It got me thinking about other 'Official' live albums that have been released that I have attended over the years and I was wondering which ones other people have been to.

Here are a few of mine to kick things off.

Black Sabbath - Live At Hammersmith 81/82 (Bonus Disc with the new expanded version of 'Mob Rules')

Blackfoot - Highway Song (Some recorded At Hammersmith Odeon)

Camel - Pressure Points (Hammersmith Odeon '84)

FM - Live At The Astoria '88 (Disc 3 Of The 'Long Time No See' Box Set')

Girl - Live At The Marquee 1981

Grey Lady Down - The Time Of Our Lives (London Astoria '98)

Hanoi Rocks - All THose Wasted Years (London Marquee '84)

Harem Scarem - Live At The Gods '02

    Hawkwind - Live '79

Honeymoon Suite - HMS Live (Gods Festival '02)

Iron Maiden - Beast Over Hammersmith (Hammersmith Odeon '82 - Part of the 'Eddie's Archive' box set)

Jump - The Freedom Train (Nags Head '99)

Magnum - Marauder (London Marquee '79)

Marillion - Hammersmith Odeon '86 (From The Curtain Call Box Set)

Marillion - Live Marquee '82 (From The Official Bootleg Box Set Vol 1)

Marillion - Wembley '87 (From The Official Bootleg Box Set Vol 1)

Gary Moore - We Want Moore (Hammersmith Odeon '83)

Motorhead - Live At Brixton Academy '87

Pendragon - 9:15: Live At The Marquee '86

Riot - Live (Castle Donington/ Hammersmith Odeon '80)

Saxon - Live At Donington (Monsters Of Rock '80)

Saxon - The Eagle Has Landed (Hammersmith Odeon '81)

Michael Schenker Group - Rock Will Never Die (Hammersmith Odeon '83)

Jeff Scott Soto - JSS Live At The Gods '02

Status Quo - Live At The N.E.C '82

Thin Lizzy - Life (Hammersmith Odeon '83)

Treat - Live At Firefest '07 (DVD)

U.F.O - Headstone: Live At Hammersmith Odeon 1983

Jeez Jez, your like a part of rock history. I mean that in the best possible way, in that you've been to so many classic gigs.

  2. It's been out in Japan for about a week now. I've placed an order on the cdjapan website. After listening to it once I'd say it's better than the debut and I shouldn't comment too much after just one spin but I'd say album of the year (so far). Yes, better than the excellent Treat - Coup De Grace.

  3. H.E.A.T. - Freedom Rock (2010)

    01 – Beg Beg Beg

    02 – Black Night

    03 – Danger Road

    04 – Shelter

05 – We’re Gonna Make It To The End

    06 – Stay

07 – Nobody Loves You (Like I Do)

08 – Everybody Wants To Be Someone

    09 – I Know What It Takes

10 – Living In A Memory (Japan Bonus Track)

    11 – Cast Away

    12 – I Can’t Look The Other Way

13 – Who Will Stop The Rain

14 – Tonight (Japan Bonus Track)

  4. Powderfinger - Not a huge fan but I like them enough to go to their "farewell" show, should be fun with a few mates. I can't believe how fast they sold out. I had to resort to buying tickets for the Toowoomba show.

Oh yeah and Geoff I saw your SOTY post - I'm there for sure. In fact I'm almost more excited about Saosin than SOTY.

To other gig news, 1927 are announcing another national tour, most of the dates are in July I think. I can't recommend going to one of their shows highly enough.

  5. Well guys, in a desolate year for modern rock, it seems there's a couple to look forward to from Hinder and Disciple, but now a third one emerges. The new Just Surrender CD, 'Phoenix' is due for release on May 11. If you're interested, go to your local vendor and pre-order this for chump's change. I had a look around yesterday at the usual suspects and this is really cheap from Amazon, Play.com and the normal overseas vendor. I think most those guys had free shipping and the Cd was around us$7.99, but for other overseas guys I saw Tower Records had it for us$7.99 with us$4.99 postage. Which is where I was going to get it until I saw this, for Aussie members:

Plug in code MCDONALDS10OFF at checkout and the new Just Surrender CD is yours for about au$11.00!!!

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about the CD... hoping for good things.

What a bargain. Thanks for the info. I do like this band.

  6. So I went to pick up the Lovember Records reissue of this and both Amazon and CD Baby show it as out of stock. Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Is Lovemeber done making copies of this album? Anyone know where I can get a copy?

I've got a spare original that I'm happy to part with for nothing. Let me know.

  7. Also speaking as a non-completest, but I'd much rather my copies of classic albums didn't have additional live songs on the end. I.e, "Slippery..." is a classic album and it closes with a monster tune ("Wild in the Streets"). To add live songs just dilutes the classic nature of that album IMHO rather than finishing on a big high...

I could not possibly agree with that more.

I think I've touched on this before in some other thread, but I would take the studio album alone over the full studio album + bonus live tracks any single day of the week. I also truly believe it detracts from the quality and just means you have to eject the disc after the last studio track anyway. Waste of everyone's time.

    Amen
