  1. I'm not good with making comparisons to other bands, but they are along the lines of Dalton/Treat/Da Vinci/Glory - that kind of thing. Some great songs on here, very melodic, nothing particularly heavy, in fact it's pretty light weight with a good dose of keyboards. The sound quality is a bit demoish but not too bad, very listenable. I wouldn't worry about the fact that it's a CDR, the overall package and booklet are quite good. A nice pick up for $12 Geoff, you won't be disappointed.

  2. Steel Panther - I've heard another rumour.

Keep your pants on Geoff, Aldo Nova says 'never listen to rumours'......

As much as I like to give shit about their lyrics, I would go and see them for sure.

Would rather see Aldo Nova though ;)

  3. Question C&D are difficult as I haven't seen many retired artists. Would love to have seen Gary Moore though.

  4. 'Bonrud' have a new album coming out 2011 as well:

"The new bonrud single "Bullet in the Back" is the first track to be released from the new bonrud CD which is currently being recorded with Keith Olsen. "Bullet in the Back" is available as an mp3 download from all of your favorite digital retailers. You can purchase "Bullet in the Back" through itunes, amazon, and CD Baby. "Bullet in the Back" was mixed by legendary rock producer Keith Olsen at Pogologo Studio in California. Keith has won six Grammy's and the CD's he has produced have sold over 120,000,000 copies. He has produced CD's for Foreigner, Whitesnake, Sammy Hagar, Night Ranger, Ozzy Osbourne, Rick Springfield, and many more. The track was mastered by Steve Hall who has mastered CD's for Alice In Chains, Rod Stewart, REO, Pat Benatar, Richard Marx, and many others. The sophomore bonrud CD featuring Rick Forsgren on lead vocals will be released in the summer of 2011."

Their first album was awesome and from what I can remember it was very highly regarded by the AOR community.

  5. Check out Malicious. Kind of a mix of Dokken and Dangerous Toys.

    http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/malicious4

Nice one, I think I'll pick this up as well. That song 'Live Fast ('N Die Young)' sounds cool.

Yeah that Malicious CD sonds awesome. I used to buy at CDBaby back in 2005/2006 eg. the Big Cock CDs but shipping worldwide was free then. What is it these days?

To Australia, postage without cases gets cheaper the more you buy. If you buy just one CD it's $5.57, if you buy 10 CD's it's $22.74 ($2.27/CD)

So probably a bit more than I would like to pay but if you can find 10 CD's to order it's not too bad.

  6. I picked up a copy of the 'Take Me Home' LP yesterday at a record store here in Brisbane. It cost $15 but is in excellent condition. On the reverse side of the lyric sheet they have a collage of newspaper clippings which the band appeared in over the years. It provides some pretty cool reading. Its got stuff about supporting Stryper and comments about other Aussie bands in Tyrant and Bengal Tigers.

  7. Wow mate, thanks for the post. I had no idea these guys had a 2nd disc... it's on my want list for sure. That debut is excellent. Lacking in the production / backing vocals and overall vibe department, but at it's core the songs on it are simply excellent. Great hooks.

Definitely need to hear the 2nd one...

Yeah as far as I can tell from the samples, the 2nd album is the weaker of the two, but as I say has some cool songs in the middle and those demos at the end aren't bad either. I'm not really sold by their heavier and more modern songs. Though I'll wait until I actually get the CD before forming too much of an opinion.

  8. I'll kick things off with a few CD's that I've just ordered.

    U-Turn - No Filler (2003) USA

    uturn.jpg

This one is listed in the HH's database (first band under "U"). The samples sound really cool, reminding me of Bon Jovi. Check out the samples for 'You Say', 'I Need You', 'I'll Come After You', 'One More Night' and 'Drift Away'. Very highly recommended.

    U-Turn - In Your Face (2007) USA

    uturn2.jpg

This is the 2nd (?and final) album for U-Turn. It's noticeably heavier and more perhaps more modern sounding than the first, though it still has plenty of appeal. Judging by the samples, it is probably stronger in the middle of the album with songs like 'Tender Eyes', 'The Change' and 'December Nights'. The album finishes off with some bonus tracks/demos of which 'Get Up' and 'United We Stand' sound really cool and could possibly be demos from the first album.

Both albums are available on CD for $12.97

  9. I'm not sure if there was already a topic like this but I thought of starting this topic so as people can share any nice finds on the CD Baby website. As we know, the CD Baby catalogue is massive and there is a lot of shit to sift through in order to find anything worth buying. So if you come across something that sounds promising (any genre), any good deals, or maybe something you have purchased from them in the past that is still available, feel free to let us know about it here.

  10. Okay lets try something. I'm searching E-Bay for a copy of 9.0 Too Far Gone.

I get 11 results, 7 of them CD's, all listed below.

Appears to be a good seller without a truck load of Azintex titles for sale. I'd probably feel confident that this one is legit.

    ---

    Seller 7

    From UK

    Auction Link

    MINT condition.

    US $8.99 starting bid

Seller states "Mint condition. We don't sell CD-Rs or promos. Only official releases."

Has tons of Azintex titles for sale - check out his other listings.

    Very misleading seller.

    ---

So of the 7 copies of this CD for sale on E-Bay, 4 of them are very likely Azintex releases. Not that anyone would dare buy a CD from Lativa or Azerbaijan Republic anyway, but that's about 60% bootlegs.

I think the results here speak for themselves.

  11. Now, if a seller/friend sell a cd for let's say $100, and I bought it, I still don't see how this will benefit this artist directly as the bulk of money will go straightly into the seller's pocket, so basically, buying boot or expensive original disc will both won't benefit the artist in any way.

In regards to the artists, of course they're not going to receive any financial benefit from you buying a 2nd hand CD from a friend or a seller. But they're not going to be disadvantaged by it either. What Azintex is doing (legal or not in that region of the world) is making big dollars by selling unauthorized copies of an artists work.

I know you have stated that you are only interested in the rare/OOP/obscure titles from Azintex - which is I good thing. But I would like to know your thoughts on this. How do you feel about someone going out and buying 30 copies of the Immaculate Mary CD or 9.0 Too Far Gone (for example) and re-selling them on E-Bay or Amazon without acknowledging that they are unofficial and unauthorised illegal bootlegs? And what about the music fan out there that is now trying to find a legit copy of 9.0 Too Far Gone, but has to sort through dozens of misleading listings before finding one.

  12. Regarding the oop cd's, you definitely need to be very wary about the sellers on ebay right now claiming to have "original" presses of the cd's Azintex has available because most of them are from there or another similar company. You can tell because there will be 10 sellers with the same title and same description and they all start the bidding @ between $5.99-$7.99 or a bin for that price. After seeing the quality of the product first hand that is coming out of Russia it will be very hard for me to ever buy with confidence a hard to find out of print rare album for high $$'s knowing that they possibly could be being produced en masse in Siberia and then realize I just got taken for a big chunk of change.

Very true. The other give away that the CD being sold is from Azintex is when they have a large range of titles that Azintex carry but they are often listed as being new/mint condition. Can I say, like many others here, I'm in it for the music, not the value of my collection - but I don't like being mislead or lied to by sellers. As Rick states, this sort of thing makes it very hard to buy with confidence anymore. I wonder if a list of E-Bay sellers should be created, listeing sellers who are strongly suspected of selling Azintex releases?
