  1. Okay, Dan.......taking this a step further. There are litterally, thousands of bands, many of whom are already listed on this site, that recorded some killer demo tapes during the late 80's into the mid 90's that are certainly collectable and of high quality. As you know, this was the "in Vogue" thing to do during this period as it was much cheaper to record and duplicate a cassette tape as opposed to vinyl or CD. Many bands were doing this to promote themselves not only to record labels, but to their listening base as well.

My question is this........is there now room to start adding these collectable demo tapes to the site, many of which would become a part of the discography of many bands already listed, although there may be many additional tracks on these demos that were never released on CD? Then, there are the bands that never released a CD officially until labels such as Demon Doll, Ionian etc etc have discovered them.

Mull this over and let's either go with it or just dump the idea?

    Thanks boss!!!

  2. March 9th was 2 years ago since this tragedy and it is still a healing sore.

Thinking about scrounging in another thread I named dropped you pal and it reminded me of...

I miss you buddy and I hope your still ryding those stars!

Here's a Tacoma Metal Band I gave to James on one of his trips to Auburn, I hope you can hear this pal as it is up to 11!

Wow Terry, never heard this one before......killer!! Knowing James as I did, I know he definitely loved the sound of this one. Good time memories can never be taken away.......

  3. No, Terry, It was in an E Bay auction and no one bid on it......I guess they thought it was some junk CD or something. A friend of mine told me about it and said he had gotten a copy from Paulo Fernandes a few years back. I know you and James spent lots of good times diggin in the bins and finding Gold......

  4. Hey Delbert,

That "Grounded For Life" that you have is completely incorrect. Only the song "Nightmares" is on "Grounded For Life".

Don't know where you got got that from but it is totally bogus. All of them songs came from my uploads of "The Art Of Seduction". Hope you didn't pay for it.

I always thought something was screwed up because so many tracks were repeated

  5. I just got this CD in the mail today that I won off E Bay and after listening to it am just stoked as to how something like this released in 1997 could have flown under the radar of collectors for all this time. This is the track "Way Of The Crow" off this 8 track CD by CHARLEY IN THE BOX. A crazy name for this New York band, but they play classy hard rock with strong lead vocals and a chunky guitar tone. There's plenty of kick and a strong bottom end to boot. I hear similarities to HAREM SCAREM’s early demo material. Their style is like LILLIAN AXE, ST. WARREN or SKID ROW teaching HAREM SCAREM a thing or two about attitude driven hard rock. A solid, very enjoyable listen for my ears........

  6. Russ....I've said it before.....You really need to give serious thought to writing a reference book or doing something to convey all this great knowledge of the Baltimore hard rock scene in the late 80s - early 90's. You've accumulated a vast amount of material and knowledge that should be invaluable to other collectors!! You do a great job and I have followed this thread almost since it was started, just absorbing all of this. As you know, I am heavy into demo tapes and love discovering new bands all the time like this. Keep up the good work man!

Just received my copy this week of the Swedish band CREYE's new three track EP titled "Straight To The Top". This band is fronted by the singer of ART NATION and DIAMOND DAWN, Alexander Strandell. The physical CD itself is actually a CDR release and appears to be a bit difficult to track down, although the tracks are available for download on Amazon, Itunes etc.....I contacted the band via Facebook and they cheerfully made arrangements for me to receive a copy directly from them.

  8. I agree, as long as the "sound" of the band remains fairly intact, even though the band members have changed. I think the most dramatic member change in most bands comes from the singer. Although, in the case of the Swedish band FATAL SMILE, their debut "Left In A Shadow" was a very melodic affair. After that release, the band shifted into a Malmsteen style.

I was admitedly a bit excited when I heard there was a new release forthcoming from the band. Nothing dynamically different, but still enjoyable!

  9. The chorus and second half of the song is good, but that song is completely made by the first verse and everything leading into when the full band joins in. Killer lyrical melodies. Love the first half of the tune immensely. And overall, it is a very good tune.

I agree Geoff that the second half is good......no, I think for me the better word is "Killer"!! I actually love the lyrical melodies as you do......Outstanding in my opinion......I am one of those who am just "sick and tired" of the same ole routine over and over and over until eternity......this track actually employs some genuine inovation in the song construction and underlying melodies. Another excellent release in my opinion and also another Japanese pressing for my collection because I admire it that much.

  10. Simplest thing to do is not read so much into shitty labels like AOR, melodic rock, melodic hard rock, ball licking - who gives a fuck? Just listen to the music and if you like it, you like it. If not, you don't. I hate stuff like "too AOR" or not heavy enough or too heavy or whatever bollocks one worries about.

It's all very, very simple. Are the songs good, or not? If they're good songs, who cares about the rest of it?

    Rant ended.

    Good analysis Geoff.......

    .to answer some previous questions.......

    1. I buy Japanese pressings "only" when they contain legitimate bonus tracks and.....they are a release that truly pulls my chain. Otherwise, the mainstream releases satisfy my desires.

    2. The bonus tracks are "Don't Cry For Yesterday" (The legitimate Bonus) and

For Better or Worse (acoustic version).

    3. This album WILL NOT appeal to everyone. Some will think it too lame, some hate keyboards, others like heavy riffing etc etc etc......however, for what it is, this is a spectacular release. I, am one of those individuals who truly appreciates an extremely wide range of musical genres from searing heavy metal to the 50's and 60's oldies

  11. Received my Japanese pressing from CD Japan on Thursday ...... it's been in my CD player quite a bit. This has the potential to be in the run for Album of the Year. I have all the previous BROTHER FIRETRIBE releases on the Japanese pressings and this album is by far superior. I'll explain.....the sound here is much fuller, the production extremely full including orchestration. Their overall sounds actually drifts toward the LEVERAGE vibes this time as opposed to their previous releases. Having the same vocalist in Pekka Heino, there is a blending of elements. Also, the Japanese pressing has a total of 14 tracks, two of which are Japanese bonus. One is an acoustic track and the second is a genuine bonus. More than, just a bonus, a brilliant track worth having. My recommendation is to obtain a Japanese pressing of this CD if you are going to purchase it.......It should be worthwhile!!

Hi All...just wanted to help others avoid the mistake I made....twice...years ago I blocked a buyer from the Czech Republic with the ebay user name of dadox841 due to abusive and unfair feedback...he asked to be unblocked recently to bid on my new stuff and like a bonehead i didn't bother to lookup why he might have been blocked in the first place...then he bid and once again got his money back from ebay and left negative feedback anyway...

hope this helps someone else in some small way...take care!
    Mike

Don't feel bad Mike.....I've done the same thing over and over. In my case, it wasn't that I didn't check to see why the person was blocked, it was just that I have a soft heart!! One Canadian bidder in particular hammered me several times with huge money and I finally learned my lesson. Most of you know who that person is. He was always bidding on stuff with huge money and everyone was talking about him.
