Tool are like a heavy proggy band. I quite enjoy them but have to be in the mood.

Korn are nu-metal. I'm not a big fan but they were huge in the late 90s to mid 00s.

King's X are a power trio who play hard rock with strong vocal harmonies. I love them.

Local H are a post-grunge band. A couple of decent songs, but mostly shit.

Ok am interested in Tool and Kings X. Will check out.

From the top row left to right:

Tool, Def Leppard, Stone Temple Pilots, Korn.

Local H, Crown of Thorns, Gotthard, King's X.

    Nelson, Ten, Thunder, Tower City.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Deep Purple, Sublime, ZZ Top.

Rage Against the Machine, Sepultura, Helloween, Metallica.

    Tool, Korn(Not my type), King's X, Local H.

    Are they any good?

This one's a no brainer for me.

    "Iron Maiden" 100%.

The first album I bought with my own money. It was pocket money, but still my own money nonetheless.

I was 9 at the time, pushing 10 and even though I purchased it with my own money, I still needed the all important approval of my Mum.

It was given, the purchase was made and the rest is History.

I can't go past the title track as my favourite.

Yes have to go with Iron Maiden. Same as you, some nice memories. I think I was around 8 or 9 when this and 'Appetite for destruction' were the first cassettes I ever purchased with the help of my parents(money haha). Loved the artworks just as much as the songs. Played them non stop in our little Sony cassette player for a year or two before I added 'Blizzard of ozz', 'Keeper of the seven keys:part ll', 'Fireworks',and probably 'Thundersteel' to my collection.

I gave up posting on the main site as I just assumed no one really read them. I used to post as Lennie back then.

And I think someone mentioned synthwave? To be honest I'm not really a fan of this genre, I find it too lite and lacks solos.

LeBrock is by far the stand out band imo.

Also Tim2 was a great contributor on this site and his musical taste was spot on. Still friends with him on FB and he regularly posts in music groups there, mainly 'melodic Rock forever'

Just as i thought that some of you might have been posting under some other names. Exactly why I don't remember seeing your name then.

I regularly browse ebay and every now and then some cd pops up that "looks" hard rock. I don't know the artist so I hop onto HH and check the reviews. I look for Geoff's name and read his first. I have taken a punt on many an album cause of this. I've also let a few go to the keeper due to negative reviews. I still post there. Not as often as I used to, under the same name "auslander".

Good to know that you still post there. It's become rather very empty nowadays. I still like the main site a lot for one particular reason. If the user just wants to know whats the album like, what songs are the highlights then nothing like the main site. It's very convenient for the user to go through the reviews in one single page. But yeah, for further discussion and all that(banters 😂), this is the place.

To be fair to Geoff, he used to be the man I'd rely on for reviews on the main site. I'd always check his opinion on bands I didn't know, still do. He hasn't been posting there for a long time though, but the old reviews I still like. I blame his current synthwave obsession for destroying his review powers on the main site.

Me too. When I first discovered Heavy Harmonies main site back in 2008, Geoff was like my go-to man for reviews. Came to know about so many great albums and songs particularly reading his reviews. There was another guy called Tim(2), even his reviews were good. The other names I remember are The Rocker, Erik, Jez, Hair Metal Again, Swazi - would check out their reviews too.

v nice list, I now need to check out Loveless ( sorry if I missed it on other lists)

Knowing very well you have given up on so many modern rock music, am not sure if that will be right up your alley but you can definitely check out. It's a pretty strong album with some killer tracks imo.

I was going to do a top 10 list but it was too weighted towards one band (The Broken View), so instead I decided to post my favourite songs of the year, with the one condition that only one song from each artist could feature. No point putting them in order, as it's not an accurate list, but here's more of less my favourite songs, per artist, from 2021-

Midnite City     -    Darkest Before the Dawn (can't believe there's no clip on youtube for this one)

Pretty killer playlist to summarise 2021, if I do say so myself. :)

Man that Osukaru track is sensational! Wasn't aware of it throughout last year. Will check out the album tonight.

  9. There were plenty but if I had to pick just 15 then...

    1. The Night Game - Magic Trick (Best song of 2021 to these ears)

    2. Lebrock - Interstellar

    3. Wolfclub - Just Drive

    4. Loveless - Haunting Me

    5. Midnite City - Fire Inside(No video on YouTube)

    6. The Motion Epic - You're Not Ready

    7. The Maine - Dirty, Pretty, Beautiful (for me the catchiest tune of the year)

    8. Grayscale - Dirty Bombs

    9. At 1980 - Caroline

    10. Station - Do You Really Want To Fall In Love Again

    11. Chez Kane - Better Than Love

    12. W.E.T. - One Final Kiss

    13. Nitrate - Big City Lights

    14. No Resolve - Easy On Me (Thanks to Adele 🙂

    15. Vega - 2Die4

3 songs are there on Geoff's list as well. I accidentally uploaded two of those videos. What a great year anyway.
