  1. Well like i said i was not trying to stir anything up, Figgy asked a ? and i answered. And yes the way it is listed can very misleading, i am not accusing you of trying to screw anyone over or trying to find something that is not there, read it yourself, but i am sorry and "original" is not a cdr. But to each their own...........

An 'original' is not a cdr?? :wtf:

What if it has NEVER been released before in ANY format?

    Examples:

    Suspicion "Hollywood Nites"

    Bittersweet "Loaded Up"

a number of discs released by Perris Records

a ton of discs on CDBABY

It's that kind of hoyty toyty , nit-picking statement that makes me sick and makes you look like a complete :butt:

But hey , to each their own , right?

I think all that he meant was that most people equate "original" cd's with being silver pressed discs. If you bought a cd from your local Best Buy & got home, opened it & saw that it was printed on a cheap CDR, what would you think? And is Perris & CDBaby selling discs that are released on CDR's (& I'm not being a smart-ass here, just really wanting to know...I've got several discs I'm getting ready to order from them).

  2. I'm not even sure what the question was. :(

Figgy, next time instead of copying and pasting the entire text from the auction page into the message, just (1) put a link to the Ebay auction and (2) selectively quote the portion of the auction description that you have a question about.

I'll be honest, I started reading your post and couldn't muddle through it all...

    -Dan

I was a little confused as to what his actual question was, too. Maybe this will help:

    original cd - no

    reissue cd - yes

    homemade cdr - no

    factory pressed cdr - yes

    confusing auction description - yes

  3. I bought several cd's from Dave a few years ago...took FOREVER to get them. When they finally arrived however, he accidently sent me the wrong Joker cd. I had order the S/T cd (US band) released on Red Light Records & he sent me the other Joker S/T cd (brazil band w/ the nudie cover). A pretty nice surprise! And damn right I kept it, too! :P

  4. I don't believe for a second that Friction or Rock Boulevard will sell 1,000 units....in any format.

The test will be Manila Thrills and Mariah , both of which are apparently being pressed as silver discs.

Mariah has members of Tyketto , Britny Fox , Waysted and Lynn Allen....not to mention that Retrospect is releasing 3 of their albums , one being produced by Steve Brown of Trixter and another one having a song co-written with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.

If that doesn't sell in droves then I guess Sam IS doing the right thing.

I don't see anyone complaining about the Bittersweet 2 disc set being cdr's. Why is that?

Maybe because the Bittersweet cd is a 2cd set & that it's more reasonably priced at $14.99....

  5. Just a quick update on my situation...first reply from the seller was not very promising. He insisted that he checked all his cd's very carefully & noted ALL tab marks, creases, etc & suggested that maybe the damage occured during shipping. He then offered a refund (less shipping costs) if I returned the cd. I sent him a few scans of the damage & as politely as I could told him that it was obvious that this damage happened prior to shipping the cd, & that I didn't doubt that he checked his cd's, but he must have overlooked this one. To make a long story short (too late) he ended up refunding me 10 bucks, which was ok by me.

  6. Ok, here we go...just wanted some other opinions to see if I was being too anal about this. I won an auction for a copy of the Cleavage - The Demo cd. The auction description listed the cd & inserts as being in "excellent condition". When it arrived, I noticed the following problems:

    1) Crease running the entire length of the left hand side of the front insert (front insert improperly placed in jewel case & closed

    2) Tab indentation on bottom left of front insert (again, front insert improperly placed in jewel case & closed)

Now normally I would let something like these 2 flaws slide & not even mention them to the seller, but when forking over this much coin for a disc (around $70) I think it's ok to be a little picky...

    3) The tab indentation mentioned above is so bad that it actually tore the front insert.

This last one is the one that bugs me the most & caused me to email the seller with my list of complaints & ask for a partial refund.

Any comments of thoughts on the matter would be appreciated guys. Thanks

  7. So guys and gal...what do I do?

Do I tell Michael he will sell more if the reissue is on a silver pressed cd?

Do I tell him to stick with plan 'A'?

    I'm confused here. Need help.

I'm not sure what kind of a deal Sam gave to Michael, and frankly it's none of my business. I'm not an expert at this by any means. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Give me some suggestions to pass along to Michael, and I will do just that.

Give me some record company names that will do a good job for him.

Give me some contact names....give me something. We still have time before the mastering is done.

I completely understand about the whole Sam, Retrospect, CD-R thing. Can we please FINALLY get beyond all that, and concentrate on what is important here?

    Thanks,

    M.

my first rant on Heavy Harmonies....I'm so proud <_<

I would suggest to Michael that he at least inquire about the possibility of having it pressed on silver discs...or maybe even have it done himself & just let Sam handle distribution. Isn't that the sort of arrangment Sam has with Terry & the XYZ cd? I really think he will move more product if he insists on this.

  8. If only Sam would spend a "little" extra money and press his titles on authentic / silver-backed discs, we'd ALL be buying a lot more of his product.  There are at least five CD's I'd order from his site right now if that were the case.

Keep asking, JLP... It can't hurt.

Right on...I'd give him plenty of business if they were...I'm sure we all would. I'm just not sure that he gives a rat's ass...

  9. Wow, that didn't take long for Sam to contact the band members...are they neighbors of his or something? <_<

Actually, through one of the members here, Malebolgia, the whole deal took place......

Choc........you may as well realise that Retrospect is legitimate. It will give yourself a whole heckuva lot less stress.....and you may actually pick up some cool music in the process.

However......it's completely up to you if you....

    Keep rockin'!!

It may be legit, but I can pick up cdr's much cheaper than 20 bucks a pop via trades. Until Sam clearly states on his site that he's selling CDR's, the whole thing remains a scam in my book.

  10. I'm VERY anal about the condition of my cd's (hell, ask my wife...) & as far as I'm concerned, the price you won the cd for should have no affect on how forgiving you should be when it comes to the description of the cd/inserts. I would email the seller & ask for around a 25% refund (in this case $5.00) since the inserts where damaged. To me water damage is the worst "defect" there is, followed closely by cut-out markings & fading. Either that, or suggest to return the cd as long as you get reimbursed the total amount you paid + your shipping costs. Just my 2 cents...

  11. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this one yet...I won an auction back on 9/8 & sent payment via paypal soon thereafter. After waiting for 3 weeks for my item to arrive & many ignored emails I was forced to file a claim with paypal. After getting my money back & leaving negative feedback, I noticed yesterday that he had responded to my feedback by saying that he had had to close down his shop due to the hurricane. Here's the catch...he lives in Hollywood, FL which is almost 1000 miles from where the nearest hurricane hit (it's on the Atlantic coast, fer Christ's sake!). Also, he has been left positive feedback for all his other auctions which ended the same day mine did so all those got shipped. Only difference being I won my auction very cheap. Obviously, he didn't like what it sold for & is using the hurricane as a lame excuse to back out of the deal. I even contacted him again & told him that since his shop was "open" again we should go ahead & complete the transaction & that I would contact ebay & have the feedback removed. He replied by saying that since I was a dumbass & didn't watch the news & had already left feedback, he was going to "leave it at that". Needless to say, he has been put on the mailing list for several gay porn sites. :2up:

  12. It's not really so expensive to make 1000 proper silverback CDs you know, but in Sam's line of work, given they are made to be sold on eBay one at a time only for the highest profit possible per CD, it's not really worth for him to make more than 100 anyway.... just a different business approach I guess *shrugs*

Sam's put them all up on the website now, at a SET price, hasn't he? Moot point....

Well, I wouldn't say that the prices are THAT set...Friction started off at $49.99 & has recently dropped to $39.99...

  13. Way is Sam so bad at dealing with people and seems to get very upset and aggressive??  He jumps straight on the back foot as soon as you ask him any questions.  It seems like he had got something to hide??

How can a owner of a record label handle himself in such an un-professionally manner and expect to run a viable business.

Maybe anger management could help him out??

    Dave

    Or a lobotomy..............

    JL

    :rofl2:

  14. I can see both sides of this, but end up siding with Mullethead. He bought the cd & thought he was getting the OBI...if he has in fact been waiting 5 months for you to come up with a replacement, that's excessive. Sounds like he got fed up with waiting for the OBI & suggested a common cd in it's place as a show of good faith on your part. And for you to say that you now have 2 sealed copies complete with the OBI's, but since this has been aired on HH he ain't getting a copy...that's just makes you come off as a jerk. Your name was never mentioned in his post, so it's not like he came here to bad mouth you & hurt your business. Do the right thing & exchange the cd for him. Just my 2 cents.
