  1. Being a Washington Caps fan my favorite Swedish born player ever is Bengt Gustafsson. Like most Swedish player he was a great two way player. He was deadly with his shot from close range. He scored 5 goals in one game against the much hated Flyers... on only 5 shots. He played with passion... what he lack in talent he made up for in heart. He spent his whole NHL career in Washington. He had 555 points in 629 games, 196 of those points being goals. I'm sure he could have scored more goal but was one of the most unselfish players ever. He broke his leg in a game and missed a year and a half of playing time in the NHL. He came back after the injury to play one more year with the Caps posting solid numbers. I just really enjoyed watching the style in which Gustafsson played.

This past year the Capitals drafted his son Anton... I'm looking forward to following him as he climbs the ranks.

Also really like Daniel Alfredson, Mats Sundin, and Michael Nylander.

Gustafsson took Sweden to the Olympic Gold and world Cup gold in 2006.

Calle Johansson was a great defender in Washington and Backstrom can be really good in the future.

Right now I'm watching the first semi in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships from Ottawa. They play quite good Ice Hockey the Juniors.

  2. By the way Racquel Darrian was fairly hot but not as good as Nikki Tyler

I remember Nikki Tyler and she was damn hot, but Racquel was my (one of many) dream woman!!

    How about Sylvia Saint,,,

  3. My favourite Swedish player of all time is Mats Naslund from way back when. I still have a jersey with his number 26 from his days with the Habs.

Another fav of mine is Tommy Salo, who let in that horrid goal against Belarus in the 2002 Olympics, which in turn helped Canada win gold, because without that brutal lose the Swedes would have certainly won it all.

That was one of my sadest moments in sport. Especially since we had such a great team. But it was good that we won the Olympics in 2006. Mats Naslund is the general manager nowadays for the Swedish team. He was a great player.

  4. Decent release and worth having if you're into hard rock/hair music but it isn't one of my favs so it doesn't get played a lot....

Have to agree. If it not have been so expensive these days I would propably buy it.

  5. Finally picked this one up and am really liking it. This is the sort of modern heavy/thrash metal I like: some screams here and there, but with commercial, cleanly-sung choruses. Thanks to Tim(2) for the recommendation on this one; hell, 98% of my modern heavy/thrash metal collection was purchased based on his suggestions! (But I'm still too wussy to listen to Job for a Cowboy.)

Glad you like it! I actually agree with Ali Rock in that it's not as good (though much more commercial & better produced) than "The Fall of Ideals" which is a stunning Metalcore disc, one of the best ever IMHO. Another disc I reckon you'd like, if you haven't already heard it, is SONIC SYNDICATE'S "Love & Other Disasters". Ignore the disappointing first single "Jack of Diamonds" & pick up the album, some of the years best chorus-lines on this one...

IMO, this blows away "The Fall of Ideals," which I spun only once and immediately jettisoned like a pair of shoes that just don't fit; something about it failed to click with me. Not really surprising though, because as you know by now, I like the more commercial side of the heavy/thrash/core metal genre.

Will check out Sonic Syndicate ASAP.

Fuelhead is another unknown Swedish band which is worth checking out if you like more melodic modern metal. :guitbannana:

I have actually had it in the player the last couple of time I have excercised. Some of the songs are good. I think Powershift is great. It is better than the last album IMO. They have taken a leap from the last album. If they are out playing as much as they are doing at the moment they will be great in the future.

The have recieved so much bad gossip here in Sweden. Many people say they are a copy of In Flames. This is propably because they are very young and we have a large jealousy in Sweden.

I also think the production by Jonas Kjellgren is better on this album. Have you heard of his band "Scar Symmetry". A great band in my opinion. The last album is softer than the previous but I think both are great. They are such great musicians in that band, especially the guitarists.

  7. I bought the Katmandu album last week, a great album by the way, but what an ugly cover that album have. What does it says about the album, nothing really. I wonder what the were thinking when they chose that cover. :screwy:

I then thought of other ugly covers and came with the following albums:

    Foxx: Gangster of love

    Flame: st

Maybe it's just me that thinks the above covers are ugly and maybe can you lads come up with some more bad covers. :headbanger:

  8. Welcome aboard........ you must be livid with current state of melodic rock in Sweden right now... with so much variety rocking around.. I don't think the scene in you country has ever been this great in quite some time :)

Yes, The rock scene in SWeden nowadays is really good. Everything from In Flames, Soilwork to H.e.a.t and glamsters like Gemini Five and Vanity Blvd is just great. New bands in are popping up in all the time it seems especially sleaze and glam bands.

  9. A few of you may know that I`m moving home as of tomorrow/New Years Eve.

We sign the contract and get the keys tomorrow, I`m having my telephone line and sky installed tomorrow (priorities).

We`re only moving down the road, approx half a mile away, hope my Holly Woods And Toronto cd comes before we move

I guess like Glen, after today I might not be around for a day or so, hopefully you`ll all survive without Glen and I

Just incase I don`t get on the net....

    Happy New Year to all

I know the feeling. I'm getting the keys to my new house on friday but I moving the third weekend in January. It is allways a hazzle to move. It takes quite a while to get everything ready in your new home.

Good luck with your move mate. :bananamac:

  10. QUANTUM OF SOLACE

Daniel Craig still rules the screen as the baddest, most vicious Bond we've ever seen, but what should've been a kickass spy adventure is nearly ruined by a director who doesn't leave an image on the screen for longer than half a second during the action scenes, making it often impossible to tell what the hell is happening. I like the harder-edged direction the new Bond movies are going, but this time around, while somewhat enjoying the movie, I was also simultaneously thinking how much better it would have been in the hands of a capable director.

I saw it yesterday. He is great as the new Bond and JUdi Dench rules as M. But this was more a regular Action movie rather than a classic Bond movie. They had stripped the movie from most of the classic Bond stuff which is not good. For example were are all the great gadgets.

  11. Hello Mikael

You mention you like football, there is only one team of note that gets mentioned here and it`s the English Premier Champions, Champions League Holders and The World Club Champions. They play in red, white and black ;)

Anything to do with Mickey mouse football teams ie Luton, Crystal Palace or Southend, please ignore :tumbsup:

If you lived outside Manchester, you might know Nick

Good to see you here mate

I do not have a fave team in England actually but I have liked English football as long as I could remember. English club football have been huge in SWeden since the beginning of the 70-ties.

I guess Man Utd are massively popular there, they seem to be more popular outside of Manchester!

I think they are the biggest team here but not Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs are not far behind.

  12. Wow! A new fella here endearing himself to the board (well, ME, anyway) by talking hockey. You're more than welcome to come round these parts as often as you like. lol

As far as players currently playing, I'm thinking you're going to want to go with (as far as this current season) Henrik Zetterberg, or Daniel Sedin. (Henrik isn't far behind either.)

The past couple of years, those fellows, with maybe Markus Naslund, Daniel Alfredsson, and Nicklas Lidstrom. (Maybe Mats Sundin too, but I was saving him for next.)

And the all-time list, Peter Forsberg could PROBABLY sneak on there, but more likely Mats Sundin, Borje Salming, and, even though they had brief NHL careers, Kent Nilsson and Mats Naslund.

My favorite, though? Why, of course it's Hardy Astrom! :P

Seriously, though, it'd be Freddy O himself, Fredrik Olausson. He was poised for greatness from early on in his Winnipeg career and seemed to be achieving it. And after leaving the Jets, he just never quite quite recaptured that consistent half-point-plus a game scoring touch he had in Winnipeg, save his years with the high-powered (Kariya-Selanne) Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks.

Olausson, that's quite interesting choice. He was back in Sweden a couple of years ago in a team called HV71. He played a big in that team when they won the Swedish league that year.

I must say that Salming or Lidstrom have had the best carreers in the league but Forsberg was such a great player.

How about Pelle Lindberg. He would propably have been one of the best keepers ever played in the league if he han't been killed in the car crash.

This year I'm very impressed of Loiu Eriksson's goal scoring in Dallas.

  14. Hi there all,

Now when I have more time to be on the board I found this great topic. Despite I been on the board for quite some time I thought it would be good to introduce Myself.

I'm Mikael from the Westcoast of Sweden. I actually lived outside Manchester for three years where I studied Audio Technology.

Music is almost 50% of my life. I love everything from Leppelin to Aor, Metal and more modern stuff. :headbanger:. I also love to record, mix and do mastering both in the studio and live. But I don't have that much time for that anymore :crying:

I'm into almost all kinds of sport like Ice Hockey and Football (soccer) and all sorts of winter sports.

You have propably heard about the Swedish car manufactor Volvo. I'm working there to make the Volvo cars as quiet as hell to drive.

I have just bought a house as well so I know what I'll be doing the next couple of years

    Take care

    Mikael

  15. Hi there,

I wonder if there are any Ice Hockey maniacs here like myself here on the board. It would quite interesting to know who you people "over there" (and other people, off course) think is the best Swedish player in the league nowadays and the best Swedish player who has ever played in the league.
