  1. Gutted. Really, really gutted. Man City pissed me off, but QPR annoyed me even more. One club that does not deserve its success in buying the title and another that does not deserve to be in the Prem. Both were pretty rubbish when the money came along - none of it generated through football. Hate these clubs. :angryfire:

I agree to some extent, but as long as QPR stayed up I couldn't have given a toss about anything else. I'm actually proud of how well we played, especially given we have Joey Barton desperately trying to lose the game for us by being a twat. And given 2 weeks ago we totally caved-in against Chelsea. We deserved to stay-up. Bolton beat us 3 weeks ago after we scored a goal that crossed the line and wasn't given, so they can have no complaints about yesterday. They had to win. We didn't. I'm personally glad City won it as they've played the best football all year, and scored the most goals. Man Utd didn't deserve anything. Sure we've spent cash, but most of that was wasted by Neil Warnock on players like Barton/Wright-Phillips/Anton Ferdinand - who have all done nothing. Our best players (Mackie/Taraabt) were there before...

  2. The Veer Union - 'Divide the blackened sky' ; really starting to get unsure about this one. The more I spin it the less it sticks. Just sounds like nu-metal to me and he and I are not friends. I will have to playback their debut and see where it went wrong this time 'round.

Yeah it's less catchy, but there were only a couple of outright commercial tracks on "Against the Grain" anyway. This one's heavier, but they're a tighter band and the songwriting is better on this one IMO. I really like it.

Ive not heard it, but I havent played the debut in like 3 years or something??? Remember it being solid, but as Tim says only a handful of commercial numbers, so it does wear thin after a while.

BBABH - 'Feel the power' ; still the best of 2012 so far, imo.I

Really. I haven't played that for a few weeks now, but seriously I can't remember one song off it, except maybe Deathwish??

    What??

"Deathwish" isn't nearly the best song. "Shut Up and Rock," "Forever," "Holdin' Back For Nothin'," "Scream It Like You Mean It," and "Sleepless Nights" are fan-f*cking-tastic! Such a good album. Spin that shit again, and tell me it's completely forgettable.

I'm with Glen, didn't stick for me either. Some good tunes, especially the less cheesy stuff ("Forever" is just throwaway garbage IMO), but just not enough songs I can remember a chorus from. Have spun it 8-10 times probably. The ballad is awful beyond belief, truly a 1/10 song if ever I heard one. Overall I thought it was about a 6 or 7/10 at best. In fact their last album was better, there's nothing as catchy as "Show Me What You Got" on here...

  3. For a brief period during the 80's, Europe were standing shoulder to shoulder with Bon Jovi.

Would you folks like Europe better if they had matured the same way as BJ?

Basically new Bon Jovi or new Europe?

    Don't reply with neither! :)

I'll answer you! I'd say yes. Seems to me like BJ have evolved as they've grown older whereas Europe have tried a few more modern styles to see which one suits, and have been more skittish. These days Europe are unrecognisable, even from the band that made "Start From the Dark" (which was a departure in itself). Bon Jovi still sound like Bon Jovi. Europe sound like a different band on every album. This is not a bad thing. "Last Look At Eden" was good, especially following the horse-shit that was "Secret Society", but the fact they keep changing styles just doesn't give them any authenticity at all. They probably think that "Bag Of Bones" is as good as Whitesnake's 1987, and Norum think he's John Sykes. Well he's not. And they're not. They're fakers IMO.

VICTORY - Culture Killed the Native

SKAGARACK - A Slice of Heaven

  5. Anyway, to each their own. These guys have somehow pulled a big fanbase in the melodic rock world so they must be doing something right. Just not for me. I said it before, but how this is even coming up in an honest comparison (in terms of quality) with HEAT is beyond the wealth of my knowledge. And I don't give a heck about the difference in styles. I mix all my modern rock and HH stuff these days and there is nothing at all wrong with comparing the two bands. I just can't fathom that people like this that much that it rates as high as that HEAT magnificence.

You're probably right about the Alter Bridge thing, this is more of a post-grunge type of modern rock (I guess how Nickelback started out, before they went more generic/hard rock) rather than the pop/rock stuff you seem to prefer. Guess it's the down-tuned guitar that's the difference. The same way you rate stuff like TRUST COMPANY (which is average at best IMO) is the way I'd rate Shinedown and Alter Bridge. Bands like STORY OF THE YEAR are somewhere inbetween. I'd personally rate ALTER BRIDGE's "Blackbird" as my fave Modern Rock disc of all-time, so yeah I do rate these bands pretty highly!

+1, but SOTY are better than both IMO....

Yeah "The Black Swan" was probably better than anything by the other 2, but not their other discs IMO (good as they are).

I love 'The Constant' now...great album.

All great discs, but 'In the wake of determination' > all of them

Yeah that would be 2nd to "Black Swan" IMHO. "The Constant" is a good one, but 3rd for me...

  7. Hey everyone I'm new to the board..hope everyone is having a great Sunday...was just wondering if anyone else was blown away by how good Trixter's New Audio Machine is?..I wasn't expecting it to be this good...great energy..and great tunes to drive to...also was wondering if anyone knows when Tango Down new album is due?....cheers

Welcome! As for the rest... I'm blown away by the fact I didn't listen to the soundbytes before ordering the new Trixter, as that would've saved me some money. I'm delighted that some people like it, but for me it's a zillion light years from albums like "Hear" and it's not even got the modern edge that stuff like RA or 40FT RINGO had. It's dog shit.

  8. Jaded Heart died when Bormann left....

    Completely false.

Bormann's ability to write great songs died when he left Jaded Heart. Jaded Heart have done fine without him.

Disagree...Bormann's latest slays any JH since he's been gone.

Other than the decent "Helluva Time", neither has done anything much in the time since IMO. The solo stuff has been bland, and the last coupla JH discs just sounded like naff power metal (and sucked). Hope this one is a bit better, but I'll believe it when I hear it...

  9. LOVE/HATE - Blackout In The Red Room (75%)

THE BRAVE - Battle Cries (85%)

75% is way too low for Blackout - that's a sleaze classic IMO!

never appreciate that album too high since the beginning :D

    SHY - s/t (85%)

Yeah even I like that LOVE/HATE disc, and other than that and SPREAD EAGLE I don't like the genre at all...

    Np:-

    STEEL PANTHER - Balls Out

WHITECHAPEL - A New Era of Corruption

  10. Okay, so thanks to the ramblings mostly from Tim and Jez, I decided to take a chance on this one. Really glad I did - thanks chaps. Colour me genuinely impressed with this disc. It doesn't knock you balls off or anything, nor would you expect it to, but by gosh there's some really nice melodic rock / AOR going on on this CD. And nothing I heard sounded very weak either. Must say, this sounds like a really good CD.

Yeah it's pretty lightweight stuff, but the songwriting (the best thing about this band IMO) is still there. "Alive" is a great tune, love the hooky verses and lush chorus. Agree it's not gonna compete with H.E.A.T or others, but still damn good stuff...

  11. This new album is bland at best...

I agree. I was listening to this yesterday and I can honestly say that this doesn't impress me at all. It sounds way too modern for me and in some instances I was thinking it sounded similar to Alice in Chains. Why can't we have a Europe album that's like their first five albums?

Because they are grown men and more mature now, and as artist they need to grow. Or some BULLSHIT like that!

Honestly, you should've done their press release for them. :)

  12. I'll say 'Land of Broken Dreams' and 'Back Again' are 10/10 materials, but then probably Geoff and Tim should give more credits to the awesome mid-tempo ballad of 'Falling' which is a 9/10 to me, 'Love Junkie' is definitely awesome, probably in the heavy metal territory and I'll give it a solid 9/10 too, I guess Tim should like it more, and 'Bastards of Rock N Roll' is also a 9/10!

I found 'More Than A Man' and 'Sultans of Sin' to be a 7/10 or 7.5/10, but the rest are 8/10 to 8.5/10, and yes 'The One To Blame' is solid too, perhaps an 8.5/10, so at least 85% for the whole album and 90% for the fans :)

I have tried to like it more, believe me! It wasn't cheap to buy so I've stuck with it. Love the sound/production/vocals/playing, and the melodic songs are just lush (if they did an album of songs like "Land of Broken Dreams" it would be better than H.E.A.T/BROTHER FIRETRIBE-type stuff). Played it this morning again, "Falling" doesn't do it for me (needs a bigger chorus hook), nor does "Love Junkie" (same issue). Nicely played etc, but just 6/10 songs probably. "Back Again" is a good ballad, but not a 10/10 from me. In all honesty I think I preferred their other album (don't know what it's called, has a red cover - that' all I can remember!)... Glad others like this though, as it's not cheap to buy...

  13. This is one of the few albums I have got the time to review this year and it did come in at a pretty handsome 77% for me. But when I think of the album it's not with overly high regards. It's a solid disc, but looking over my review there is a hell of a lot of 7's and 7.5's. Only 'Land of broken dreams' and 'Back again' really stood out for me. With 'Falling' and 'Bastards of rock n' roll' just breaking through with an 8 each.

A good enough album, but not one of my faves of the year thus far.

Yep I'd pretty much agree with that. "Land of Broken Dreams" is epic. The only song you missed that I like is "The One To Blame". Otherwise it's too hit & miss.

  14.

15. HEAT - Falling Down

[after defending this track, its now stuck in my head....people questioning the hook...God knows why? Really catchy track IMO...even more so than the first 2 tracks]

Honestly, I'm not sure you'll find many people that think this song is better than "Breaking the Silence" or "Living on the Run"...

You're probably right, but the fact I've been singing the hook to "Falling Down" all day, and was unable to recall the hooks to the first two tracks, I also have to agree with Glen that it's really catchy.

my point exactly.....on top of that it has the best intro, best pre chorus and best solo on the album

As good as it is 'Breaking The Silence' is resigned to bottom half by the brilliance of the other tracks. Fact.

"Breaking the Silence" has the best solo on the album IMHO.

  16. Lol 'The Crow & The Butterfly' a dead in the water track! That's one of my favs off SoM.

    Says it all really.

For My Sake is the best song on the new album by a long way IMO.

Yeah "The Crow..." is a killer song. I do like "For My Sake", which is the best rocker on the disc IMO, but I like "Unity" more. I still can't decide whether I like this or H.E.A.T best so far this year...

Yeah I re-listened to this this morning and still think it takes off from track 3....the first 2 are just fairly standard modern rock and not that exciting IMO.

Enemies and Nowhere Kids are decent rockers....nowhere near the quality of For My Sake or My Name which are my fav rockers on this.

    Amaryllis

    Unity

    Miracle

    For My Sake

    My Name

    Through The Ghost

Are all awesome 9/10 + songs IMO

Still think this will come in 80-85% which is pretty good for a modern rock disc these days.

HEAT is some way ahead though and I have a few others in between but this is safely in the top 10......at the moment.

I like this slightly more than you, and I like HEAT slightly less. For me this does pick-up from track 3 (though I do like "Bully" - the opener is weak though) and there isn't a duff track after. "I'm Not Alright" is in there too as a killer tune, and the variety of rockers/acoustic numbers is spot-on. With the HEAT disc, although I like the album flow, I just can't help wishing the last 2 songs were better. Is frankly very picky to find much to fault with either album IMO...
