  1. 'Love junkie' is a pretty good tune. Only issue with the song is actually the song title part of the chorus itself... the rest is pretty damn sweet.

This disc may have lost momentum with some, but it probably gets even better for me with each spin. I love songs that actually sound like they mean something to someone. :)

I think the issue with it (Safetsuit) was that there was a whole mid-section of songs that are awesome. But some of the tunes at the beginning and end aren't quite as good. The title-track is another epic, with great lyrics and a strong message...

Totally agree about the title track. Those 3 songs from 4-6 are near perfect. I like the start of the disc plenty but I agree the last 2 songs are not quite up to the standard of the rest of the disc. I really like both songs, but they're definitely probably what keeps this from being a 90+ CD for me.

We're really going off-topic with this shit. What's the weather like over there today anyway? :)

  2. Lots of discussion on this disc and rightly so given the mix of styles and what they try to achieve...lived with this for a while now (think I promised a summary back in Feb or something!) so here goes.......

    1. Deathwish - monstrous rocker, i freakin love this track...only thing keeping this off a 10 is some silly growling vocals. Best opener this year (9.75)

    2. Shut Up & Rock - lame lyrics and dreadfully cliched, also some silly growling again, lowers what is otherwise a pretty decent song. Neat musical passage with good solos but a bit gallopy (8.0)

    3. Love Nightmare - Ouch, hate the verses...really cant understand a word. chorus is good, but cant help thinking this is only half a song. (6.5)

    4. Forever - Clean vocals throughout ( )..and how much better is that?! great melodic tune with a killer hook (9.0)

    5. Holdin Back For Nothin - wow, frantic intro and to be honest the pace doesnt let up..clean vox tho and a pretty cool chorus...this is one I was humming some time after as well so props for that (8.5)

    6. Ive Got You - i guess lyrically it is a bit suspect, but I do like this one. the solos/outro are pretty special (8.5)

    7. Rockin All Night - very poisonish and utterly dreadful subject matter. I'd be embarrassed to play this to anyone I knew....all decently played but just so cliched. Not for me im afraid, i would skip this every time. (5.0)

    8. Scream It Like You Mean It - I do like this one, but the vocals are all a bit high for my taste. Also the solo is a bit annoying and twiddly? decent tune tho and no growling (7.5)

    9. Skate Or Die - clearly the 2nd best tune for me. dragged down slightly by some growling but a great song/solo (9.25)

    10. Innocent Blood - wow, this song is all over the place..i almost missed the first chorus is was so frantic..well played but just too complex to hold my attention...bordering on prog metal in a way. (5.5)

    11. Sleepless Nights - nice tune, but chorus is a bit bland..neat solo but a bit 'wanky'..doesnt really fit the song. outro is pretty cool tho (7.75)

    OVERALL : 77%

Funny, "Love Nightmare" is my fave song, and "Forever" my least favourite (if you exclude the horror-show that is the ballad). "Innocent Blood" is another one I like. :)

  3.

Yeah, I get the 10 score for this song. Great melodic rock song and the only reason I didn't rate it more than a 9.25 is because it didn''t make the lyrical connection with me. It's perfect in every other aspect but I don't really give a shit about a land of broken dreams. ;) I've also handed out a few 10s this year, but for me the best song of the year so far is probably 'Never stop' by Safetysuit. Sure, I'm a massive soft cock but that song completely slays me. Chills every time without fail.

Not getting the love for 'Land Of Broken Dreams', sounds quite average to me. The only song that is really rocking my world on this one is 'Love Junkie'; killer tune!

Love Junkie is my fav too but I really like them all.

Count me in as a big fan of Junkie too! what a great song

Interesting, that song is what I would play to someone if they asked me what a filler-track is.

    weirdo ;)

I can't argue against that! I just like the melodic songs. They should make an AOR album. :)

Nice choice, love that one. Though "Staring At It" (for lyrical content also) edges-it as my fave....

  7. Big fan of this band and to me the new album is pretty damned good - not quite up to the standard of the awesome 'Knock You Down' (which I rated 2nd best in 2011 - quite a feat!), but anyhoo after many listens I've dropped a big 89% on this one and here's how -

    1. Come Alive - very good rocker, solid hook and great solo (8.75)

    2. Raise You Hands - gotthard influenced medium paced rocker, awesome vocal (8.25)

    3. Land Of Broken Dreams - perfect melodic hard rock, like a slightly harder rocking HEAT (10)

    4. Falling - fine ballad which just falls short in the hook stakes..another great vocal though (8.50)

    5. More Than A Man - bif chugging riff, melodic chorus and monster solo makes for another winner (8.75)

    6. Love Junkie - killer melodic hard rock..reminds me of PC69 on their In10sity album plus one of the best solos ive heard this year (9.25)

    7. The One To Blame - love that bass/riff combo in the verse! big anthemic chorus and killer solo..very nice (9.0)

    8. Back Again - simple but perfectly executed ballad (9.25)

    9. B'stards of R&R - all together now 'and we go woah'..lame lyrics but a great hook, and great musicianship (8.75)

    10. Sultans Of Sin - monster rocker to end..doesnt re-invent the wheel, but the power of this song is immense (8.75)

    Overall : 89%

Yeah I thought their last album was a bit better too. HUGE production on this, and I love the vocalist. I just wish all the songs were like the most melodic numbers. "Land Of Broken Dreams" is the best song of 2012 so far IMO...

  8. Can't wait to get Hardline. Not sure why all the CDs have suddenly gone up in price everywhere I buy them from. This and Jaded Heart are my next 2 blind purchases, but not sure from where. Considering how much I love Sunstorm, and I do actually believe Hardline will be better, I cannot wait!

I do think the Hardline is better. Is tricky to compare though as Sunstorm had such high-standards to follow, which is why I'm slightly (very slightly) disappointed, whereas Hardline had no such high-standards so is better than expected. Both similar in style, big-vocals and slick Euro-AOR that has that modern compressed production (that sucks at volume).

  9. yesterday i spun it once again on my long flight back home from Aussie, well i reckon this one is definitely better than 'II' and 'Leaving', but probably still 10% away to touch 'Double Eclipse'. However, this could be their second best to date :)

    I agree.

I'd completely agree with that. It's hardly flawless (there are still some fillers and some songs needing a bigger hook) but is much better than expected and well worth getting. Like the Euro-AOR feel to it, mixed with the killer vocals which are way-up in the mix. This will finish in my Top 10 for sure...

  10. Nice summary. I agree about listening to his fans. "Elena" is one of my faves, killer stuff. Only real flaws are that it takes a few songs to really get going, and the production is rough (or this could the combination of my hearing and a rubbish stereo :))

  11. JSS - Damage Control

[just resurrected that thread with a short summary. great album]

Yeah I like it. Just don't like the production (though perhaps it's my shite stereo), just sounds rough to me.

    Some great discs this morning:-

HALESTORM - The Strange Case Of... (9/10)

    HARDLINE - Danger Zone (8.5/10)

    SLASH - Apocalypic Love (8.5/10)

  12. 94% for BBABH....my oh my I wish I could see your breakdown for that....there are some defo fillers on there which you must be bestowing some 9's on and a whole bunch of 10s. Holy shit.

Rating is rating after all and its all about enjoying the music but it is interesting seeing how people rate these albums, if a little anorak :anon:

    Your wish is my command:

1 - Deathwish - absolute killer opener with an amazing chorus - 9.75

2 - Shut up and rock - cheesy, but huge and just crazily excellent - 9.75

3 - Love nightmare - great big commercial rocker with a house-sized chorus and delicious heavy verses - 9.50

    4 - Forever - perfect melodic rock - 10.00

5 - Holdin' back for nothin' - killer hard rocker with another explosive chorus - 9.25

6 - I've got you - sappy, cheesy ballad, but so appealing, and I love the momentum build up - 9.25

7 - Rockin' all night - great fun rocker hard rocker - weakest of the CD, though - almost modern Poison-ish - 8.25

8 - Scream it like you mean it - killer modern hard rocker with another gigantic hook and chorus - 9.50

9 - Skate or die - killer tune - corny lyrics but an otherwise perfect song - 9.50

10 - Innocent blood - solid hard rocker with a musical outro which blows my mind - 9.25

11 - Sleepless nights - killer song which is basically a perfect melodic hard rock song - 9.75

    - - TOTAL SCORE inc Songs, Vibe, Production etc. (%) - 94%

If there's fillers on a deluxe version with bonus tracks, I missed that one. But on my copy there's nothing but sheer perfection. I get that everyone doesn't agree with me at all on this, but this is what I listen to music for.

Obviously I don't agree (or understand) your views at all, but I particularly don't understand giving the ballad more than about 3/10. I mean, surely that just outright sucks?

  13.

I'll persist that the Trixter disc is certainly a disappointment in comparison to their first two, but it's really not that bad a disc at all. And it does have 3 really super songs on it.

Other than "Tattoos..." mine doesn't have any other great songs, so you must have a version with 2 extra songs on. :)

  14. The style may not vary much, but if I'm not mistaken, I think people were just hassling BBABH for doing exactly that? Dudes can't win.

Like I always say, a great album's a great album and there's no harm in sticking to what you're awesome at.

I agree bands should stick to what they're good at. Trouble is BBABH don't sound like they've found what they are good at. Sounds like they're sticking a few different styles together to see where it takes them and who likes it. I like all the styles they play so I should love it, but I just don't quite love it enough. I'd buy their 5th or 6th albums when they've found a stable sound and ditch some of the experiments, but it's all too disjointed to make for a great album. I agree a great album is a great album, but with BBABH I hear more of a band growing-up a bit with each disc than having really nailed a particular sound, so greatness is a few discs away...

  15. What, you don't like track 2 ?????? really???? I've gotta say that one is nowhere near the company of Physical Attraction to these ears.

Are we both talking about 'Get On It?' Such a blatant filler to me and I could see it no differently.

I don't mind Get it On but it's probably the second worst song after Physical Attraction IMO. Dirty Love is my fav and really I like them all and it's hard for me to believe more around her don't think this is better.

I can understand disappointment because if you're being realistic it's really not comparable to the first 2 albums at all. They simply just don't sound like the band they were back then. Like I said, to me they sound like a mid-90's indie band trying to sound like Trixter.

That said, if you just take the album at face value and don't compare it to the first two (which is admittedly hard) it's a fun hard rock disc. Like I also mentioned, the above tunes are the only two really weak songs, but the rest is all worthwhile enough, with a few crackers in the mix. I actually think a beefy production job would have done this thing the world of good too.

Sorry mate I dont agree, a filler is a filler and this is riddled with them

    :(

Fair enough, mate, but where was that logic when Van Halen's newie was being discussed? ;)

I think 'Physical Attraction' is better than anything on the Van Halen CD and only 'Get it on' is as bad as a lot of the Van Halen CD. The rest of the Trixter CD, imo of course, is far superior to the garbage Van Halen got away with this year. In my opinion. :)

I dont ever recall supporting the Van Halen album........there were 3 or 4 very good songs and although the musianship was pretty awesome that hardly makes for a good album if the songs arent there. I wouldnt have rated the album as whole much above 50% if I owned it (which I dont)....comparing any album with the new Van Halen as an argument to suggest its good is not a wise idea.

Now that's more like the G-Scallop I know! I wish you'd been singing that melody from the start, mate, as I recall much nicer words towards this release back when discussions were taking place. Anyway, not to worry. I'm glad you see it for the piece of shit it is, just disappointed it took a while. Hopefully Tim's seen the light too and we can go back to normal in agreeing that terrible music is terrible music. ;)

Which one are you talking about? Trixter? Yep it's mostly shit IMO. Van Halen? Horribly patchy but a few redeeming songs and great guitar. Still not great though. Neither are worth much air-time frankly when there are much better discs around...
