  1. Hall OF THE MOUNTAIN KING - Savatage
  2. SUPERBEING "How Lucky You Are" - Awesome modern rock with great catchy tunes. Anyone that liked recent stuff by Spender/Vonray/40ft Ringo will love this... TIM (2)
  3. Hey Blue, Maybe you meant TEER? They are Canadians who sound like Firehouse, but TSAR are one of the early nu-breed punky bands who had a hit with "Calling All Destroyers"... This week I got... WIG WAM "667 Neighbour of the Beast" - killer Scandi MHR EUROPE "Start From the Dark" - I made the mistake, and don't want others to do the same. Avoid. SAGA "Network" - The first few songs are average, but it gets better. Is growing on me.... TIM (2)
  4. Jeff Scott Soto "Lost in the Translation" - is right up there with 'From the Inside' in the album of the year stakes, IMO. The opening 4 tracks are especially awesome, and the guitar work is incredible... TIM (2)
  5. Have been playing an advance of James Christian's new solo album, which surprisingly sounds very good indeed. Think this is gonna be on of this years highlights. I say surprisingly above, because so far this year Christian has had a hand in the House of Lords album which he apparently sings on (he is credited but I can't be 100% sure as it could be any journeyman vocalist in a monotone voice on there), and his lovely missus' Robin Beck's album which sounds like that music you play new-born babies to make them feel like they're still back in the womb. 6. The SR-71 album also has another hilarious tune called "Axl Rose" which blatantly steals the "Sweet Child O' Mine" riff but is all done in the name of comedy. The SR-71 version of "1985" sounds better than B.F.S, IMO. Agree with Geoff about the quality of "Here We Go Again". Is not album of the year IMO, but anyone disappointed by the more laid-back Butch Walker should get it as the replacement... TIM (2)
  7. Geoff, How'd you manage to get JSS so early? I can't wait to get mine but no-one has it yet... On the subject of Mitch Malloy, I saw him live on Monday night in Brentford (UK) playing an acoustic gig. Boy can he sing, awesome voice and the acoustic setting was perfect for it. Shame the venue was such a shit-hole, but hey ho. TIM (2)
  8. Some varied stuff for me this week:- MEGADETH "The System has Failed" MEGADETH "Cryptic Writings" MEGADETH "Risk" (the only 2 missing from my collection, and both sound like stadium rock and were produced by Dann Huff of Giant fame) DARREN HAYES "The Tension & the Spark" VISION 180 "More to Believe In" ASIA "Silent Nation" TIM (2)
  9. MEGADETH "The System has Failed" BUTCH WALKER "Letters" DARREN HAYES "The Tension & The Spark" These were all in my car for this mornings commute, nice bit of variety! TIM (2)
  10. TNA "Finger on the Trigger" (thanks MJ!) Nightwish "Once" (still playing it...) Jean Beauvoir "Chameleon" (THE grower of the century - brilliant album) From the Inside "S/T" (the first 3 songs being the best material he's ever sung) Robin Beck "Wonderland" (her previous albums were near-enough A.O.R. this one's more like A.R.S.E) Richard Marx "My Own Best Enemy" (surprisingly rocky and modern sounding, with a killer ballad "Ready to Fly") SR-71 "Here We Go Again" (you gotta hear "Axl Rose" and "1985", hilarious) TIM (2)
  11. QUOTE (TIM (2) @ Aug 19 2004, 04:59 AM) Jean Beauvoir "Chameleon" (killer return) Hi Christine, Managed to get an advance CD of this, is very 'pop' sounding and you have to live with it a bit, but there are some very catchy songs on it.... (if you don't mind a bit of variety) TIM (2)
  12. Have been feeling in need of some more relaxing listening this week.... Jean Beauvoir "Chameleon" (killer return) Rick Knowles "Rush" (Canadian pop/rock like Richard Marx) Robin Beck "Wonderland" (sub-Celine Dion drivel) and a couple of E.P's... Pride of Lions "Black Ribbons" Jeff Scott Soto "Believe In Me" The Pride of Lions sounds amazing, and the live stuff is killer. Sounds like the new album could be a whole load better than the fairly mediocre first (Freddy doesn't visit here, does he?!) TIM (2)
  13. Hey dog2020, Sorry but there are some things I have that I just wouldn't part with, and most of my huge collection of Scandi AOR is included... The 3 Da Vinci albums are the definition of what I love about this music, so sadly I'll keep them. I have seen this several times on eBay though, so keep your eyes open... Cheers, TIM (2)
  14. Hey TIM, The Glen Burtnick is a real disappointment for me. It sounds very modern (will try not to sound like Freaky Freddy here) and although I like nu-breed when it's done well -SR-71/Marvelous 3, etc- the standard of songwriting just isn't that strong. There's a great AOR track ("Cry") but otherwise the best track is his re-make of "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye" which was nothing more than a filler on the last Styx album. I really like Stan Bush but his solo albums have always suffered in production quality. Actually his latest ("Shine") is as good as any, but most of his albums just sound pretty flat. Get the "Stan Bush & Barrage" album from 1987 or his latest, and although his others will be dirt cheap on eBay you tend to get what you pay for... Keep rockin' TIM (2)
  15. Hey relivinthe80's, I hope you enjoy it more than I did, as my copy collected dust for years until a kind eBayer paid me hardly anything to take it off my hands... My recent purchases have been (pretty much in the order in which I like them...): Nightwish "Once" Grand Illusion "Ordinary Just Won't Do" Stan Bush "Shine" Richard Marx "My Own Best Enemy" Threshold "Subsurface" Paul Janz "High Strung" SR-71 "Here We Go Again" From the Inside S/T Frontline "7th Sign" Glen Burtnick "Welcome to Hollywood" (AARRGGGH!) Have got the new Magnum and TSG on order for this week.... TIM (2)
  16. Hey dog2020, I have a cd-r of this too and I like it. Is slightly heavier than the first 2 but does have some real gems on it, and more of the cheese in the lyrics dept. The sound quality is very good, and it would've been a quality album (as their first 2 are)... Shame.... TIM (2)
