    New song.

Obviously light years away from what they were but I don't hate this as much as most of the stuff they've done the past 15 years.  At least it's not some sappy ballad....which is probably what most of the new album will be lol.  It's still fairly bland and generic modern Bon Jovi in general though.

Yes this one's not bad. Have added to my playlist.

Will be checking it out but don't really see myself getting into it.

I don't know what it is, but for whatever reason I seem to often struggle getting into solo releases.  And especially when it's from artists that have been established in other bands/projects that I've enjoyed.  I think by nature I always compare the solo release to whatever the artist had done previously in other bands/projects and seems like most times it ends up feeling like a lesser version of that previous stuff to me.

Will check it out though....He's a talented dude.

True but there are some exceptions. One good example is Mercury's Down by Toby Hitchcock. Love that album more than any of the seven Pride Of Lions albums.

Yep, me reflected on the Warrant comments. It was such a massive departure, but it is very easily my favourite Warrant album (though I still love the others) and also one of my all time faves.

Yeah, I've watched all the videos too and didn't know there was an ongoing story either. The band themselves did say it was complicated, even as the authors and filmers of it. They actually floated the idea that when the story is finished, they were thinking about releasing the story as a short film, minus the music video parts. Just the story alone. That'd be cool too.

Just 'cause I do these things, I was watching a reaction guy on youtube go through a bunch of their videos last night and laughed aloud a few times at him trying to decipher it all. Maybe when I have the time I'll give it a crack too.

Haha, you pose and interesting question regarding Cauterize. And a very complicated one. I love the two bands (and debut albums) for near on the exact same reason, but in delivery, they're near on polar opposites.

Cauterize's debut is like an onslaught of pure, fast-paced, raw and emotive weaponry, where as The Broken View's debut album (and EP) carry the same amount of heavy emotive impact; just dressed in a far more considered, refined and immaculately delivered approach. But in absolutely no way at all, less emotive and hard hitting than Cauterize. One could argue even more so, I do not doubt.

So I don't know. At this point in time I would say these two are my all-time favourite artists, but maybe I need this new The Broken View album to break the tie.

I could mention Cauterize alongside Warrant in my comments above, about bands that retained their excellence, even if their next album was a massive shift from the previous album, as Cauterize's 'Paper Wings' is a completely different beast to 'So Far From Real.'

And I do feel like there's no way - even if they wanted to - that The Broken View could replicate their debut, with a lifetime of everything that made up that album (and EP) poured into that album. So it'll be interesting to hear how the next album stacks up. That first single - 'Something you can give yourself' - shows we could be in for a slightly unpredictable ride.

lol, I am rambling but I guess in a pinch I am undecided on my overall favourite. I will say that where the most common critique I saw levelled at Cauterize was Jesse's vocals, this dude in The Broken View (Austin Kranick) is my current favourite vocalist and I can't see any reason why I wouldn't list him in my top 3 all time faves. Absolutely love his voice. Throw in the massive drum sound and immaculate production and there's every chance that if you call them even or thereabouts on a songwriting level, all the other bits might just push The Broken View into the #1 spot for me.

Sorry mate, bet you didn't expect a novel. Just so rare to find a band that really sticks out from the pack, and it's a sweet thing when it occurs.

Haha, yeah would love to check out the reaction videos on YouTube.

Yes, your point about bands with excellent debut albums going on to deliver a follow up album with a massive shift in style but just as good or even better than the previous album is a valid point. Speaking of the two bands, Cauterize did exactly that. Man, as I write this, just realising there will never be another Cauterize as far as their genre is concerned. They were soooo good!! As for The Broken View, I agree in some months time, will know wether they are really a class apart from the pack or gonna be an anti climax lol. But yes, production wise, vocals wise - better than Cauterize.

I was actually considering just the other day if these guys might take the trophy as my favourite band. I think it possible. I love what they've released so far so much.

But I was listening to their new podcast yesterday - really interesting for a fan of the band - and the lead singer and main song writer made a strong point that he thinks the main issue with modern rock bands is that they keep releasing the same thing over and over again, and that is not a trap he wants to, or plans to fall into. Sadly, lol, in my eyes. I obviously don't want the same songs re-recorded, but I love what they're doing and hope their evolution isn't too extreme. Many bands show you can continue making great albums that are not like the one before (Warrant, Vain, Poison, Danger Danger, Skid Row etc). Millions of examples that it can be done well, so I hope these guys are one of the ones.

Confirmed also in the podcast is that their new album will be out in March 2024. Also mentioned was the fact that they have a million songs written and they're start on the next, next album soon.

I actually found them (the singer and drummer, who did the podcast, answering fan questions) to be really interesting dudes. Passionate movie buffs and as far as I could tell, their music videos are done completely by the dudes themselves, and that they have a running story going in their music videos. Made me want to sit back down and watch them all, in order of release, back to back. The current storyline hasn't been from the start of the first video... I think they said it starts from the 'Start Over' music video?

Anyway, interesting dudes and I'm super excited about new album in March. Interesting side note was the drummer mentioning he was a big fan of the Motley Crue, Def Leppards etc. of the world.

Totally agree with you on the evolution thing. Warrant's Dog Eat Dog is one fine example. That album took me by surprise. Was already a huge fan of Jani Lane and Warrant after DRSFR and Cherry Pie, so when I heard DED the first time, I couldn't tell whether I should be excited or disappointed. It just sounded so different. But with time, it gradually became my favorite Warrant album and one of my all time fave albums.

Anyways, good to know an album is on the horizon. Will definitely look forward to it. The running story idea is very interesting and quite uncommon at the same time. Lol, I have watched all their videos but had no clue that they were all just one story. Even concept album idea is very interesting. Operation Mindcrime was the introduction for me. Still love that album to this day.

Just out of curiosity. What if Cauterize had dropped their debut album only around the beginning of this year lol.. Still, The Broken View takes the trophy? 😂

Yeah, that'd be my favourite tune on the new TBS record. Nice tune... wish there were a few more killer cuts on the new album, though, to be honest.

Man, I love that The Young Hearts stuff. Where'd you find that one? Seems way obscure. Will be checking it out asap.

Between You & Me and Gold Steps both very nice albums / EP.

Yeah, 'Bleu' is my favourite song on that new Broadside album. Album was a bit of a surprise - was expecting a more "rocking" affair, but they're a class band and it's another class album.

That The Plot in You song is immense. Hope there's an album with that on it coming out soon. I'm not sure of my history with that band, but I must check up on it. Didn't realise that was the dude from Before Their Eyes.

Rain City Drive = all class

I was listening to a band on Spotify and was just randomly going through the band's playlist and there was the song Famous Last words. Had never heard of them before. Loved it from first listen. So did a little research work and found out that their debut album came out in 2021. Haven't checked that out yet.

    Wow, has my head done some spinning today. When I heard 'She Shiela' I was all like, what are they doing re-recording a Storyteller song? I then finally recalled that it was actually 'She Sherea' that they recorded, and that it was actually Nelson, who I'd heard perform this song on their 'Life' album. Either way, at the time I assumed it was their original song. Had no idea this awesome original version existed;

Anyway, suits M3 well too, and it's one of my preferred songs on the album.

Regarding the album, I like it but have similar thoughts to the new Boys and Girls album. The last M3 album had absolute killer songs as far as the eye could see. This is a nice album, and a nice surprise too. But it is undoubtedly M3 mixed with Butch's solo style, and one might even suggest it's more of the latter. But it's a solid album.

My picks are 'If We're On Fire (Let It Burn),' 'PTSD (Post Touring Singer's Depression),' 'She Sheila' and the best tune on this and the Boys Like Girls album combined; 'Kill A Motherfucker That Breaks Your Heart.' Really awesome song... just wish there were a few more like it. But it's a nice album and I'm very happy to hear it happen and I hope there are more.

Wow, nice find! First time for me as well and it's actually one of the best songs I have heard this year lol.

Bit unsure about this one and willing to give it some more time before I really get a good feel for it.

On first listen, nothing wrong with the songs. All good, catchy upbeat tunes. Favourites would be 'All The Right Moves,' 'Satellite,' and 'Big Time' but there's a bunch of others not far off them.

The issue I had and couldn't shake was the sound quality / production. It happens every week when I'm listening to these razor sharp produced albums played back to back with ones that maybe don't quite reach the same. standard. Usually it takes a song or two to acclimate to the new album, and generally speaking, from that point on it just sounds "normal." But it didn't happen with this one. All the while I listened to this I thought it sounded like a very well recorded demo. To be more exact, a glam metal demo, done on a tight budget with a few bits that might have been tweaked if a seasoned producer / mixer got their hands on it before it was released to the masses. And maybe I was hearing things, but it even seemed a little uneven at times, that some songs sounded worse than others.

I should clarify... it's not a shocking production job that I completely hate. In time I'm sure it'll be adequate. But these kind of songs need something pretty slick, and there's nothing slick about the production job and I wish there was.

    Good songs, though.

Same thoughts. Was listening to it last night and wasn't impressed with the production. A good production job would have elevated the songs even more.
