  1. Kept it light last night and re-watched Hall Pass with the misses and Goosebumps with the kids. Both fun to watch.

I absolutely LOVE Hall Pass!!!! Lots of people don't see it as more than an average buddy comedy flick, but the chemistry between Owen Wilson and Jason S. and the supporting cast like Stephen Merchant, Richard Jenkins, Derek Waters and Rob Moran delivering one memorable quote after the next is what sets this movie apart form others I think, definitely a classic in my book!

Plus Nicky Whelan is a real babe, absolutely stunning!

  2. I've been quietly re-collecting the cassette tapes I had from my youth for years now.

I foolishly gave away my collection of tapes when I finally made the complete transition to CD's back in late 1992. I wish I still had my originals... LOTS of great history and stories behind many of them. Like LOVE AT FIRST STING by the Scorpions. My buddies Danny, Jim and I rode our bikes to the Mall after school back in 1984 to buy that one. It was a long bike ride, too. Like 5 miles or so each way. We each listened to the new release on our Walkman stereos on the way home. My gosh, that was more than 33 years ago, but remember it perfectly!

Or IRON MAIDEN - NUMBER OF THE BEAST and SCORPIONS - TOKYO TAPES. Received both of those for Christmas 1982, along with a Hacky Sack. I still have that damn kick bag in like new condition. And then there's KROKUS - HEADHUNTER. I bought that one at the Navy Exchange shortly after moving to San Diego just before my sophomore year of high school in 1983. Sometimes the stupid shit I remember amazes me :)

Great stories man, love that type of stuff. Should be a scene in an 80s movie or book :D riding your bike to the mall, classic

  3.

I must be hearing something different from you guys cause that is just plain average to me.

Sounds like a Journey leftover from the Raised On Radio album.

Which is why I dig it. Raised on Radio is a fantastic album

My second favorite Journey album... hard for anything or anyone to compete with Escape.

ROR was released my senior year of high school and I played the living hell out of it the entire summer of 1986. LOTS of fond memories of that one and specifically that period of time. Oh to be 18 years-old in the mid '80's once again!

Oh yeah, Raised on Radio rocks lots of memories for me too albeit a few years after its release cause I was born in 1988 LOL....... what was that like back then? From the live footage etc. I think the album and subsequent tour were pretty successful. So did the band just call it quits after the tour, was there a falling out in the press, or just an ''indefinite'' hiatus.... how did you experience the whole thing back then?

  4. took the kids to see Despicable Me 3

it wasn't too bad but the least entertaining of the 3 for me but the kids loved it which is what mattered.

Next up is Captain Underpants movie(kids have read all the books so we are well familiar with it) followed by Emoji movie & Cars 3 within the next couple of weeks when I get time between work to take em :)

Thought the same about Despicable Me 3, least funny of the 3. I liked the first two cause they had something for kids as well as grown ups, after seeing the third one I was wondering if kids would enjoy that cause I didn't really like it. I guess if your kids liked it it's more targeted at a younger audience this time

  5. The debut is one of my all time favourite albums, this new stuff stinks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mike is the only original member, right?

What are the other original members doing nowadays? I mean what's the story there? Is it a Slash/Axl, Bach/Bolan or Tramp/Bratta kinda thing, what did I miss?

I know that after his accident in 1992 the band returned to New York and that was basically it. Whether he got in touch with the rest of the band or not when trying to get the band up and running again I don't know. Maybe he did ask and the other members had other responsibilities now (job, family) or he didn't ask them in hopes of getting hired guns that wouldn't make as much money as a ''full'' or original band member

    I think anything is possible

  6. Interesting topic, I'll give it some further thought and come up with a few. I will initially say that I disagree a bit with you, as I felt that Dokken's Lightning Strikes Again, Whitesnake's Good To Be Bad and Ratt's Infestation were actually albums that did a good job of returning to form for those respective bands.

I dunno, maybe I'll agree that on ''Lightning Strikes Again'' Jon Levin does sound like George Lynch alot, but those albums you and I mentioned don't line in with the bands' previous efforts seamlessly. The Whitesnake albums sound waaaay ''fatter'' than the 1987 s/t or ''Slip of the Tongue'' for example

I remembered a different one, also a new band: Smokin Aces and their song ''You Take My Breath Away'' also sounds very early 90s to me, almost an Aerosmith Pump / Get A Grip vibe to it

Would be nice to get gener8tr's view on this whole thing...

  7. Let's get a discussion going again, shall we..... inspiration for this is the latest thread about Boulevard releasing a new album after 27 years. I listened to the track they released and - as expected - it sounds very different from the first two records. Many years ago I realized and accepted that new material by old bands won't sound the same as they did in the 80s and 90s, whether it's the songs themselves or just the production and overall sound of an album. For example old bands that released material very different from their classic albums are Ratt with ''Infestation'', Dokken's last two albums, Mötley with ''Saints of Los Angeles'' or the last few Whitesnake albums. Which brings me to my question:

Do you guys know of any bands that managed to release an album - let's say after the year 2000 - that sounds like it could have been released during that band's or performers heyday? One band that comes to mind that pulled it off is not an old but a new one: Sonic Station. Their 2012 debut actually sounds like it could have legitimately been released in the early 90s. Hope you know of some other examples and hopefully from old bands as well

  8. Collateral Beauty

Goodness, what ever came over me to watch this. Mind numbing comes to mind when describing this POS.

I refuse to watch that drivel. By the way, check my latest post in the ''Introductions'' category, there's a question for you about your favorite album :D
