How far is Tasmania from the mainland? anybody? and are there hot girls all over Australia? or are there places to avoid because of homely chicks, I.E. Alaska in the US?

    Lol.

  2. RIP Gerald. A class act man. A class act band. The music he created within Brighton Rock still gives me goosebumps and he had one of the most recognizable voices on the planet. I feel very fortunate to have seen them play live for the first time in 2017. Gerald addressed the crowd immediately after belting out a flawless version of One More Try; "I bet you all were saying, I wonder if he can still hit those high notes?" Yup. Amazing!

  3. To advance the ball with a lateral, the player passing it really needs to sell the fact he is going to keep it on his own. That involves lateraling at the last possible moment and exposing himself to a high velocity violent hit for his efforts.

It is used to advance the ball consistently and to great effect in elite flag football and touch football as there is no risk of being mowed down by a defender.

I suspect another reason we don't see laterals in the NFL is because of how situational the game is itself. There seems to be a unit of 11 players specially designed for every imaginable scenario. Since laterals are a central component in rugby, practices naturally center around plays which advance the ball via laterals, while NFL practices are burdened by learning strategies, formations, blocking schemes, run and pass plays, fakes etc. throughout the three facets of the game; offense, defense and special teams. There simply is no time to work on anything else.

Let me clarify: I don't mean to imply that it's open season or a free-for-all when it comes to posting racist, sexist, or homophobic comments. Rather I mean that I'm not about to ban someone or censor their posts because they make a joke about women, white people, black people, etc.

Some self-restraint is expected, and if I see things getting out of hand, I reserve the right to prune content accordingly.

"Your being personally offended doesn't mean others have to change their behavior. You have the choice to go somewhere else."

This statement had me slightly worried before your clarification above as it sounded as if it was fine for anyone to personally attack another member on this board for their skin tone, sexual preferences, nationality etc. and they could either like it, lump it or leave.

I always make a point to read your posts HH as they are consistently very well thought out and always well written. I trust that you will  regulate accordingly and your follow up statement above should make it perfectly clear to everyone here now.

One of the few things co-vid can't touch is our music collections. ROWYCO, people!!!

  5. The University of North Dakota Fightin Sioux went through a similar controversy and subsequently changed their team name to the Fighting Hawks a few years back.

I found this to be much ado about nothing. While I'm admittedly whiter than the screen you're reading this on, I still fail to see how the name Fightin Sioux is a derogatory moniker. And if it is, why is nobody leading the charge to have the University of Notre Dame do away with the name of their sporting department; the Fightin Irish?

The Washington Redskins case is more obvious to me. While not universally recognized as a racial slur, I've never heard the word used in a positive way to identify Native Americans and historically there is enough evidence to suggest it is offensive enough to do away with.

Here in Canada we started off referring to them as Indians, followed by Natives, followed by First Nations and now they are known as Indigenous people. Cool by me. I have several Indigenous friends; I call them by their first name or their surname and find either one works fine. Point being, their ethnicity rarely if ever comes up in conversation.

I also have issues with the Cleveland Indians name. For one; it's lame! It is a generically boring choice for a franchise name imo and definitely lacks imagination (kind of like calling your team the Houston Texans). But originality or lack thereof is only offensive to creative minds, I suppose.

If you wanted to reference Native American culture via Cleveland why not associate your baseball team with a specific band or tribe  significant to that area at the time instead of coupling a historically inaccurate umbrella term (Indians are from India and West Indians are from the West Indies) with a goofy cartoon caricature of an "Indian".

While the word Indian may not pack the racially charged clout of the N word or even redskin, I'd certainly find it insulting to have been known collectively by a term invented by the same people who very nearly wiped them off the face of the planet in an extremely hostile takeover of North America.

  6. Is this the first time two offshoots of the same band have released albums with different lineups under the exact same name? I mean, we still knew JR's Great White was separate from Great White, right?  Stranger than fiction for certain.

Regarding the album; does it have to sound exactly like Guns on guitar and Lewis on vocals to find credibility since they call themselves LA Guns? Or can it stand on its own merits based on the songwriting and vocal delivery of Frohlich alone?

    OW! My brain hurts!

  7. I did know Young was in T2 but super cool story nonetheless. Big fan of Young. Saw him live fronting the Four Horsemen replacing Frank Starr after his tragic accident. Hope to see him in Little Caesar one day.

Probably common knowledge among visitors here but I'll mention it anyway; Danny Cooksey the lead singer for Bad4Good was the red headed kid on the back of young John Connor's dirt bike with the blaster cranking GNR. Great movie!!!

  8. Wow! Last I heard the singer was in a coma from a serious head injury on a tennis court. Glad to hear he's back in action. Didn't know his brother had passed away either. Looking forward to their 3rd release.

Anyone know where I can find a bonafide edition of McQueen Street 2 on cd? The one released by the band not the Russian boot.

We had an absolute blast on MORC...Played a couple of well received sets and caught some great bands, as well as making a whole load of new friends....it was awesome

H.E.A.T were awesome and stole the show with both their sets. I also managed to catch Y&T, Krokus, Firehouse, Tesla, Honeymooon Suite, Steelheart, Shiraz Lane,  Thunder, Extreme, Heaven's Edge, Lynch Mob, Hardcore Superstar, Vixen, British Lion, Kix, Burning Rain, Doro and Joel Hoekstra.

So jealous. Forgive my ignorance, Jez, but what band were you in on the cruise?  I would love to do the MORC before all these acts are too old to do it any longer but that opportunity seems to be slipping away.

I was an avid Metal Edge subscriber.  I also really enjoyed those Rock on the Rise and music news sections especially.  I remember that Bourgeois Pigs project being written about too. I think there was a demo or promo song floating around from that, but I may be mistaken.  Another interesting project I recall reading about was the one Vita Bratta and John Levesque (Shout/Wild Horses singer) started up, after White Lion.  I think they were to be called Civil War?  I'm sure if they did record anything it was simply shelved by Atlantic and sadly forgotten.  When I look back at those kind of articles, especially from '92 - 93, it makes me wonder what some of those up & coming bands and new projects would have sounded like

Too funny. Bratta/Levesque was the second example I was going to use along with Pigs but I actually never read the official article; I learned about that collaboration secondhand on another site who claimed they read it in Metal Edge. Vito's playing is unbelievable and I loved the Wild Horses album with Levesque so I thought that would be a killer project between them. Oh well.

Literally nothing in it for anyone, but it would be an absolute hoot if all those back issues were uploaded on a website for old subscribers like us. That I would pay a subscription to without a doubt.

In the meantime, really appreciate this thread, Alpha. Thank you kindly.

  11. I love it. Haven't recognized any of the posted bands yet either from my reading days or thereafter. I noticed Holland immediately though. What an amazing voice! RIP.

As stated, Metal Edge was my bible back in the day and mainly for Rock on the Rise and the section that was a what's going on/coming up news update kinda thing that always mentioned what former band members of groups were up to. Amazing stuff. Still disappointed nothing ever came of Bourgeois Pigs featuring Jake E Lee and Richard Black mentioned in one particular issue.

So wish I kept all my old issues. I bailed on the publication when they started ignoring hair bands in favour of whatever was kinda popular at that time.

  12. Never heard of Twenty Ten before now. Listened to Crutch. Production is top notch and the musicianship and vocals are bang on. I even don't mind the song on its own but hearing about Cry Wolf reuniting for new material all these years later, I would have been majorly disappointed by their approach as well.

Any differences between the s/t japan release and Crunch to warrant buying one over the other or owning both?
