Living in Munich we're getting warmed up for Oktoberfest.

never a better time to listen to some German songs  :)

here is another one of my favorites from older Schlager, singer Nicole, who in 1982 won Eurovision ..

and second one is  modern Party Disco :)

Nicole - Jeder Zaun, jede Mauer wird aus Blumen Sein (1990)

Isi Gluck & Bianca Hill - Die Kinder von Malle

Yeah, that makes a huge difference. I see no issue with someone who understands a language listening to music in that language - that makes complete sense. :)

I say if the melody is strong enough, the song can still be very enjoyable without full comprehension of lyrics.  I never discard a song simply because it's in a foreign language....

I could then ask you if lyrics are not important, why don't you just listen to instrumental rock music instead of songs with lyrics? ;)

not a fan of instrumental. I like singing with my music, maybe because it adds extra layer of vocal melody on top of the instrumental.

As far as what the song is about, I don't care much about that. And if I absolutely must know, there is always google translate. I don't think I catch all the lyrics of English songs that I like either. Also, you can still sing along to the chorus, nobody will judge you for mispronouncing or even making up words.

On topic, I can understand some German because I studied it, but am far from fluent...

I never really opened this thread because as a few of the above posters mentioned, my hatred for foreign language vocals is well documented. Completely pointless rubbish. Why not just got outside and slap you ballsack against a wooden post? Maybe a bit painful, so instead, just slap your half erect penis against a wooden post. That serves as much purpose as listening to music in foreign languages, imo.

Anyway, if you're not German and you absolutely love wasting time, you must check out Tanner. Musically killer, and if they sung in English I have no doubt their debut would have been great. I only just found out this year that one of their guitarists is a long time member of Mad Max.

but if understanding lyrical content is so important to you, why not just read poems in English? Why listen to music?

  5. my current favorite is singer Veronika Fischer.... songs below  written by Achim Oppermann from band Lake, and I think Lake  also played on her record. Nice lite AOR/Pop

Veronika Fischer - Wir beide gegen den Wind (1983)

Am Abend vor dem Sturm (1983)

    Sehnsucht (1992)

    Hereditary (2018)

So well done. You don't really know what's going on until halfway through the final act. Also that one scene that nobody anticipated! If you enjoy smartly assembled horror films, this is for you.

Hereditary is a nice supernatural drama. But I think there are past movies such as Sixth Sense or Skeleton Key where the twist endings were more surprising and interesting.

I'm not just digging "Tomorrow Never Comes," I'm flat-out loving it.  I don't normally repeat a track four times, but I have this one.

    Awesome stuff!

I think the intro sounds a bit too similar to Roxette (Listen to your heart) :)

  8. Revenge (2017) - a French revenge thriller, pretty bloody, similar to films like I Spit on your Grave, but  more extreme. Fun if you don't think too much about it

Hostile (2017) - also a French movie, drama and love story with some elements of survival horror mixed in, but mostly lots of drama especially at the end.

Death Wish (2018) an ok remake, but nothing special. I watched the original right after it too, also pretty good, been a long time since I first seen it

    "I, Tonya" (2017)

Margot "Suicide Squad" Robbie portrays white-trash figure skating queen Tonya Harding in this tongue-in-cheek biopic which details Tonya's rough childhood, her rise to stardom, and the inevitable fall from grace due to her alleged involvement in the now-infamous "Nancy Kerrigan incident."
Great performances all around, esp. by Alison Janney, who won an Oscar for her turn as Harding's chain-smoking, foul-mouthed mother from Hell.

    an amusing movie
