Toughest vote ever....ended up picking Streetheart, mainly because I figured they just don't get the respect that most of these bands get, I was right since I'm the only one who voted for them!!.............Anyway I'd pick the great BTO if they were listed...beyond a shadow of a doubt the best Canadian band ever....

Got to agree with Huskermetal. I'm much more concerned with ending up with a promo or cdr on Ebay than receiving a silver pressed boot.....

I'm sure it must be. Although I've never sold on Ebay am not familiar with its rules, I have seen many sellers get kicked off by the Ebay police only to return a short time later.

For those who may find metalmayhem's situation amusing you may want to remember that "what goes round comes round"....

Slightly off topic here but I just noticed that 'metalmayhemmusic' is no longer registered on Ebay?? Wonder what happened?? Hopefully he will be back since I for one buy from him on a regular basis and am quite happy with the quality of his releases...although I have not picked up the mentioned Keel cd from him....

Personally I don't mind admitting to being a collector of music and I would be surprised if there are very many on this site who are not collectors. The difference comes down to how you go about doing that collecting. Some prefer original cds only while others are happy with mp3s or the occasional boot. None are 'wrong ' in my opinion. I would love to pick up original cds only(99.99% of my cds are original) but if I can't afford the rare (or never officially released on cd) , I don't feel the least bit guilty about picking up a boot...

Nice try but I think I'll keep trying Ebay ......Someone else mentioned Suncity Records earlier and I must agree that whoever is running that company must be out of their minds considering the prices they ask for their product!!

Well after everything I've read on this forum I'm not sure I even qualify to make comments considering the knowledge and experience displayed(I'm not being sarcastic!) Anyway personally I am only interested in the music , I don't like cdrs or mp3s. I'm only interested in pressed cds and I don't care if they were released 20 years ago or are hot off the presses from yesterday. I prefer legit releases but if they are not available I am happy to pick up boots. I have spent a load of cash over the years on 3500 plus releases so the bands/record labels have made plenty from me since I only own maybe a dozen boots. Also I have never sold a single cd!! So I'm certainly not in it for profit.....To get back to the original thread topic I must admit I would be happy to get a boot of the Hurricane release....and probably will sooner or later on Ebay...

Your point is very moot simply because by supporting the bootleggers you pour fuel into their engine and they keep ripping off more and more. Go see the never-ending list glockose just posted. I personally know several small labels which were working on some re-issues getting the bands invloved, with liner notes, lyrics, bonuses, etc., but all had to scrape the projects out coz meanwhile the bootlegs popped out and presaturated the market.

In short and to the point: legit reissues with fat booklets, bonuses and such aint coming if you support the boots, period!

Yeah right that's the same sort of argument that record companies have made in the past. The reality is that if the record companies had their act together and re-released the titles that the fans were demanding there would have been no reason/market for the boots....While I don't condone piracy I certainly understand fans frustration at waiting for a release that might never occur.....especially when there is an alternative even if it is a boot..

I have not missed that point. I agree that kind of thing is reprehensible. I guess the only way to get an original these days is to find a seller that you trust....In my case it is not a big deal since I refuse to pay more than $15-$20 for a cd so it's not a huge dissappointment if the cd turns out to be a boot....Of course my view is probably in the minority on this site since it seems, from what I've read so far, that most are serious collectors....

What irritates me is that as a lover of sleaze, glam, hard rock and melodic metal I am unable to get a hold of out of print releases without paying a small fortune for each release. I would like to see these cds re-released so that those of us without unlimited finances can enjoy the music which in my opinion is what it's all about. Until this happens I find that I am forced to support those who make boots, I would much prefer that the money went to the bands but that is not the world we live in etc etc...

There's nothing wrong with buying originals if that's what turns your crank but comparing a high quality boot to a fake rolex is not a reasonable comparison. The question IMO, is there a difference in the sound between 'originals' and boots not to mention the quality of the disc itself...if there is no difference then why buy 'original' unless you are making an investment.?? I suppose if money is the only consideration you can always download the mp3s for free off of a newsserver but that's not something I can do anymore than I can read a book on a bookreader rather than have the actual paperback in my hands....

I don't blame you , I'd be upset as well. Of course I wouldn't pay that kind of money for ANY cd since I'm not a serious collector. It's too bad the sellers can't be more forthcoming about the heritage of their cds but it's illegal to sell boots so we end up wondering whether the cd is original. Of course some have started saying things like "not sure if it is 1st or 2nd pressing" in their descriptions which pretty much gives the game away

Well I must say that I'm new to the forum but I'll toss my 2 cents worth in anyway...I do not collect cds for investment purposes, only for listening pleasure. Since many of the cds I'm after are rare and/or extremely pricey I do not mind picking up boots if they are good quality and not too expensive. For example the other day I picked up 4 cds from an ebay seller in Greece, I knew the odds were pretty good they would be boots but I was curious as to whether they would be of decent quality....they turned out to be excellent quality and I do not regret the purchase. The cost was about $13USD per cd (including shipping)and the titles were Valentine..S/T and the first 3 Skagarack releases.....
