  1. At what point do you tell Ebay to stick it? If I sold a lot of items on Ebay and they were making me needlessly jump through hoops I think I would go elsewhere. I've been going else where for the things I want to buy. I would like to look else where to sell what few items I have. I'm just waiting for a concensus to tell me the best Ebay replacement.

Really why would you go anywhere else now. As a buyer Your a ebay God. Do like many others are now doing. Bid on 10 different auctions of the same item. Pay for the lowest one. Say F... the rest... Set up a new id and bid some more. Ethics on ebay.... No such thing... Its a jungle now GO FOR IT!

As a seller I say this..... Forget what selling was suppose to be.... Do it like you want to.... Dont like the winner on the auction. Cancel the transaction return his money.... List it again..... Do this until ebay kicks you off set up a new seller account..... Yes just that easy

  2. It's a moot point. In a few weeks you won't be able to leave anything but positive feedback for buyers anyway, thanks to eBay's lamebrained new policy.

Well they have tried to start early as I had a idiot leave me negative out of the blue. That pisses me off when they dont say a word and just leave it. So being the nice person I am I returned the favor and sent him the withdraw request, Instantly he withdrew the feedback and changed ids. I dont think the guy had a clue the new feedback wasnt in effect yet.

  3. Agreed.... I always email the buyer and tell them if they dont respond they have 7 additional days to pay before the NPA is finalized. I tell them if they do respond I can finalize it immediatel and cause a strike on there account. I leave out the part about negative on purpose so when the 7 days are up I cant get a negative

Have they posted a response to your non paying bidder complaints? if not, then when they try and leave a negative ebay will remove the negative due to no response by the buyer...if they have responded I think they can leave a negative.....most non paying bidders do not respond to the complaints at all, so they get their negatives they leave, removed...hope that helps....

I had 2 buyers that never paid for my auctions in the last 3 weeks, Ive emailed them several times, they say the checks in the mail, but that check must coming from Antarctica as long as its taking. I want to leave negatives. I didnt file a non paying alert until 10-11 days , can these buyers that didnt pay. leave me a negative even after I put in a non paying bidder complaint against them?Does anyone know? Im really getting tired of these deadbeat bidders that think this is a game or something..........

  4. So I am kinda lost with all this reissue stuff since its been going on so long. Have any of the Hurricane cds been reissued or remaster? Im on amazon now and see this Take What You Want [EXTRA TRACKS] [iMPORT] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] being sold by 16 sellers. Label: Nl Distribution - Aug 17 2008

Slave to the Thrill [EXPLICIT LYRICS] [iMPORT] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

    All show NI Distrubution

    So what is all this

I just noticed that the Caroline is also there fro pre order

  5. On the flip side, have you ever tried selling on ebay? If you haven't, then you should be aware of some of the dumb questions you recieve when the answers are CLEARLY in the auction description, often passed up by an over-zealous buyer who doesn't even read it and goes straight for the "Ask Seller A Question" button. Yes... Seriously

I just went through a barrage of questions a while back when a potential buyer sent me 4 different messages, with one question each in them. I'd responded to all of them with ONE response, and he proceeded to send me back 3 more messages with one question each. About 80% of his questions were answered right in the auction description. It got old real quick... To top it off, he expected me to ship it to MEXICO, when I specifically stated in the auction, USA and CANADA ONLY! I informed him of that, and recieved a "scolding" and he was going to report me to ebay for descrimination :screwy:

Anyway... back to shipping and questions...

I round up on my shipping. Usually the nearest dollar on small items, and on the larger ones, nearest 5-7 dollars. If a buyer doesn't understand that it costs a seller to buy packing supplies, then they don't need to buy from me. I just sold 3 computers. I charge $35 for shipping. It cost me an average of $29-32 in reality, but I also figured in the cost of the shipping accessories.

Yes... Some sellers GOUGE the shit out of you as a buyer, but you also have the choice to NOT buy from them.

Seller X has an item for $10 plus $5 shipping, and seller Y has the exact same item for $8 and $7 shipping. Seller X may be close on shipping and selling his item for $3 over cost. Seller Y may be selling his item for $1 over cost and making up for it on shipping and not having to be gouged by ebay. Either way, you spend $15.

I often go through this in the computers or guitars sections. Sellers try to charge me $100 or more for shipping when I know for a fact that shipping is about $35-40. I then compare the same items by other sellers. If the items are the same price, I know he's gouging on shipping. If the other sellers are more expensive with their price, and less on shipping, then it doesn't really matter.

Still the same... if you don't like the shipping price, buy from someone else...

and on the flipside as a seller if you think you have heard it all Dont say it becuase you have not... One that stands out is the guy with 100% feedback that told me I was wrong for filling a NPA becuase he had 100% feedback and was a exception to my rules. My rules didnt count for him.

Or the buyer that claimed the radio didnt work and I said send back and they replied no biggie I will just throw it away and forget about it. Scammmmmmmmmm

Or the one that didnt pay and got a npa filed and decided to place more bids during the NPA

Or the numerous amount of International bidders that dont read the listings and dont have a Paypal account so they cant pay

Or the ones that leave bad feedback becuase it was not what they expected but was listed correctly

Or the ones that pay for media mail and wonder why its not there in 3 days when bottom of listing says media mail 2-9 days

or the one that claims a store bought cd is blank?

Or the ones that email you not realizing all the tracking info is attached to the ebay listing and ask where the package is when they got it a week ago.

or HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could go on endlessly to the things I have heard

    And back to the shipping........

I do sell cds 3.50 for the first one and 4.60 priority up to 3 cds so basically its just the first cd that costs the most

  6. hardrock80srule, I concur. I was trying to come up with the words myself, but now there is no need. I try to keep my starting prices as low as possible, because I like to let the market determine an item's worth. However, I am not a wholesaler and I generally pay $1.00 to $3.00 per item. Many times one bid items lose me some money (keep in mind, a 0.99 item paid by Paypal results in MOST of the money going to eBay). Also, I will ship international without jewel cases but only on low ticket items. I sold a rare one to a guy in Japan. He paid lower shipping cost, and was irate when the item arrived. CD and inserts were fine, but I guess it was the point. I "self-insure" all my items, which is just a BS way of saying you get your money back if a package gets lost or damaged. I find that the PO gets 99.9% of all items there and intact. Finally, I have had numerous Paypal claims, particularly Italy and Spain, which I have all lost. The Spain package, in particular, was even sent registered. So, I charge a bit highet to ship internationallly. In closing, I guess my s & h fees aren't ridiculously high, but they are also not "exact cost". On the other side, I absolutely take into consideration s & h when buying on eBay and generally stick to domestic sellers who charge $3.00-$4.00. As far as grading, I also agree. It is very subjective. If there is one small scartch visible only under a light source, does that need to be mentioned? I usually stay away from making judgement calls, but do try to answer questions. High ticket item questions will ALWAYS get answered. But, if I am starting something at a penny? However, I do use the words SATISFACTION GUARANTEED in my description, and try very hard to stick to it. Thanks for listening!

Now I have never had a problem with Spain(so far)........ however Italy is my top country not to ship to. I honesty dont think its the people its there postal service. What should take a week or 2 takes a month or 2. My 3rd party insurance company does cover Italy but I would rather sent to Lebanon which I have done numerous times with no problems.

  7. Ill be the bad guy here.... I charge a standard rate of 8oz for any cd being shipped out of the USA. Same I charge 3.50 for the first cd in the USA. It equals about the same amount overrage. I will not ship a cd without the case as I dont find it safe and dont need to hassle later if it gets damaged. Cardboard liners dont do it for me and by the time I thought there was enough carboard we would be right back up to the same weight. I require Insurance no matter what. After all that I charge 9.20 to Australia for shipping and insurance. While I do understand you want it as cheap as possible for shipping I figure 2.40 extra is not gonna break anyone and there usually are plenty of other sellers to choose from.

As for this really high shipping charges I concur but have a theory about that. Ill be the first to say I dont like to ship Internationally as there is no safe easy way to do it. Ya I can insure lalala but if they claim non receipt then you have to go through the paperwork and so forth. Personally I just dont have time as I do this between 10-12 hours aday almost everyday. The extra work doesnt bother me but my time is limited.

I only allow International bidders becuase in my experience they push the prices up on some items. I suspect other sellers may also realize this. Also I dont know how many times I have had buyers bid from other countries and never ask shipping until they win. There are some shady sellers out there that take advantage of that even though the buyer in all rights needs to ask these questions before bidding.

Bottom line is these guys dont care whether they sell to you or not and in return you shouldnt be buying from them

Also on the condition of booklets/inserts/scratches........... Back in the day before I new how big rare cds where I also couldnt understand why in the world a fold in a booklet mattered. My experience now allows me to answer that but back in the day I did everything to avoid these buyers. Why becuase condition is graded different by everyone and that caused problems. I never thought of a cd as collectible back then only that it played fine.

Problems I dont have time for and would rather not sell the item if that could be a issue.

By the way my spelling is horrible:):)

Personally I find it funny when a see a seller charging 25.00 but more funny when I see people continously buying his stuff.

  8. Agreed Never leave feedback first if you are a seller. Buyers rep means didly but a sellers feedback means everything. The secret to this kind of buyer is file a NPA on the 8th day. If he responds you can end if you desire and it puts a strike against his or her account. That option still allows them to leave feedback. Now if they dont respond to the NPA after 7 days then you can leave feedback but they cannot. That option takes 14 days.

Ive had more bad buyers in the last 6 weeks than I have had in 7 years. My patience has run thin veryyyyyyyyy but I also no how ro work the system very well and most buyers dont.

For me I keep this thought........... There are way more good buyers than bad. Negatives cannot be avoided due to the amount of FREAKS roaming the net.

  9. Trying to figure out what you, as a seller need to do, in order to be protected, is a pain, as is trying to figure out what to charge so you're not ripping off the buyer.

I literally spent hours trying to figure out the best combination of shipping methods, delivery confirmation, insurance methods, and valuation tiers for both domestic and international shipping.

Since the new USPS rates took effect, small light packages are MORE expensive to ship within the U.S. than outside of the U.S., but over about 6 ounces in weight, international packages have gone up DRAMATICALLY in cost.

As a seller, you cannot depend on PayPal's seller protection policy. You *MUST* insure for your own protection. For international shipping, this means using a 3rd-party insurance company, as USPS will not allow you to insure 1st Class International, only Priority and above.

Registered Mail is NOT considered "proof of delivery" by PayPal, so it is absolutely worthless in protecting against unwarranted chargebacks.

Then you get into situations with the maximum insurance limits. This is less an issue with CDs, but I run into this selling coins all the time. The maximum I can insure a parcel for with my DSI contract is $200, which means that above that amount I pretty much have to send by Global Express Mail (for the tracking number which will conform to PayPal's SPP). Do you have any idea how insane it is to pay $25-30 to ship a package that weighs only 2 ounces?

Yes, as Iordan mentioned, Registered Mail is obscenely expensive here in the U.S. compared to other countries. I routinely receive Registered Mail packages from other countries where the sender only paid $1-3 extre for Registered Mail. When I tell people that Registered Mail will cost them $10.50 extra beyond the shipping costs, they think I'm ripping them off. No, the USPS is.

I'm told the difference (supposedly) is that U.S. registered mail is literally under lock and key throughout the entire journey, logged in at each stop, whereas the security in other countries' registered mail is not at the same level. Whatever. It still costs too damned much.

The only way to ship a package outside of the U.S. with any kind of tracking number that PayPal will consider to be valid is to ship by Global Express Mail, a minimum of $25. The number on customs forms is NOT a tracking number, and is useless.

Same thing domestically with packages insured through the USPS. The numbers on the insurance tags, regardless of black (below $200 in value, no signature necessary) or blue (above $200, recipient must sign), are NOT tracking numbers and PayPal does NOT consider them valid proof of delivery. You must have delivery confirmation, and if the payment was $250 or more, signature confirmation.

Here's a little-known fact that has screwed over a lot of people:

Within the U.S., Registered Mail is the safest way to transport high-value merchandise. Registered Mail shipments can be insured up to $25,000. HOWEVER, if someone pays you with PayPal for a $5,000 item and you ship it Registered Mail, you *MUST* also purchase "signature confirmation" (which is entirely redundant), because PayPal (for whatever insane reason) does NOT consider Registered Mail tracking to be proof of delivery. Even if the Registered Mail tracking shows that the recipient took delivery and signed for the package, if you did not also purchase signature confirmation, you will auto-lose any chargeback filed against you.

Logic has ZERO part in all of this.

Enough of my rambling. The best thing to do is give you a link to one of my eBay stores listings, and you can see how I've set up my shipping and handling charges, both domestically and internationally. If you have questions as to why certain charges are what they are, I'll try to answer:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MESE:IT

    -Dan

The Key words here are the 3rd Party insuring as Dan told me awhile Back. As a seller this is essential to International shipments. Hell I do this not only on First Class mail but all shipments. This way I am double covered on Priority and up both by the Post office(Ya Right) & the 3rd Party insurer.

NOTE: I did read on ebay the other day that you cannot require to abuyer to pay for 3rd party insurance .... However I automatically add this into the shipping cost when I quote it.

You can Blame Ebay for alot of this......... Theres alot of shit to know when selling on EBAY and if they would spend alittle more time explaining this where people can see it easily instead of searching endlessly through ebays help system there would not be so many problems.

I dont know about Dan but having sold to 6000+ people 99% of the time you can tell when a Buyer ot seller is being honest or when something seems wrong. It can be in the way they word there messages or reviewing there history through feedback, ect.

Paypal should have Red Flags flying so People see this..................

Paypal - Shipping to APO address - When you ship to a adress like this you must have a customs form... When you print the label through Paypal NO WHERE does it tell you this. Expect your package returned with return charges plus you pay to ship again.

  10. Ditto on the Italian postal service. Either there is alot of fraud or they postal service is the slowest in the world. I too do not ship to Italy. Hell even my insurance provider has a clause giving that specific country 15 extra days over the normal 21-30 days to file a claim. Something you might not no but recently I talked to paypal and asked them if they track these people making claims and they do. I now request any buyer I think that may be commiting fraud to file a claim against me just so there is a record of them on Paypal. Ive already had 2 that refused to file claims.... Makes you wonder?

  11. I've learned that trying to put off having kids for many more years is a brilliant idea I hope I can hold onto.

Im undecided on that.... as Mine is now 18 and Im only 38. Dont know yet if I should have waited or if this works out better:).... I will say this... It seems they are alot harder to raise after they turn 18

  12. Refering back to my post on Belkin. I did alittle search today on Walmart.com for routers. I called all the companys to check the customer service/ Tech depatments... All either are contracted out of the country or They charge you a fee for tech support. What is up with this shit! No offense to our International Rockers out there but it is a nightmare to deal with people you cant understand or they cant understand you. Half the time they have no clue. Anyway I said screw it and called my ISP and paid 149.00 for the router. My first question to her was am I going to be charged a fee for help and are you all based out of the USA.

I no this is nothing new but a few companys have woke up and do not do this. For instance I cannot say enough good about earthlink. These people no there shit.... Remeber back in the day when Dish and Directv used to contract out. I dont think they do this much anymore but I could be wrong. Anyway just a heads up to anyone thinking of buying electronics.

  13. Today I learned that the people in my local post office have no idea where Slovenia is. I had a package to send there today, when I dropped it on the counter and they read the destination on it, they looked at me as if I was making this country up. They had to pull out a book and look it up in order to charge me the right postage, and were like "Oh yea, look, HERE it is, Slovenia! Who knew?"

Well what they need is a self checkout line like Walmart were you can just do it yourself. Basically thats how my post office works. I go in tell them the postage leave the money and on my way. I just dont have time for them to dig that 1000+ page book out to figure out International postage. I've sent packages to islands around Europe even I never heard of.

  14. 4. After trying to figure out why in the hell my new speakers didnt sound right i figured out I know nothing about stereos. I couldnt figure out why the music was so loud and the singer could barely be heard in background... Needless to say the settings for theatre, ect. werent right and I had no clue you could actually separate the singer from the music.

I've had a few singers I wished I could do that with...

I learned that even if I leave really REALLY early for work in the morning, I will STILL manage to end up behind the one other person on the road who feels they shouldn't have to drive anywhere near the speed limit, and hits their brakes constantly for no apparent reason... <_<

Where'd you get that PS3 at that price?!? I still want to get one.

I got lucky and saw it on a local classified site. Im not real fan of buying used electronics becuase no warranty but for the price I couldnt resist. In all honesty the wii is a much better system. So far I havent seen anything that makes the PS3 graphics any better. Now I think PS3 was aiming to win in the long run but wii has kicked it up a notch and PS3 may never catch up. By the way everything i said about the PS3 and how hot it gets is true. Just having it turned on setting there cuases it to get decently hot.

I am going to purchase the XBOX 360 here in the next few months. I figure what the hell might as well have them all.

I do have a advantage though I can write these off my taxes as test equipment for games I buy at auctions - Since I am a ebay seller.

  15. 1. When buying electronics of any kind - Call the toll free help line first and make sure that you can understand the person on the other end(Nothing pisses me off more than these companys contracting out the customer service to other countries). After talking to Belkin today about my router I finally gave up and said its cheaper to go buy another and sure the hell wont be a belkin. These guy top my list of the absolute worse company ever. You no they offer a premuim service. You pay 22.95 and they will move you up to the front of the call list.

    2. I already have a Nintendo wii but anyone out there planning on buying one for Christmas better start looking now as I cant find one within 60 miles of me. Its still 4 motnhs until Christmas. I already own one but wanted another

    3. Another game system the PS3 which I bought at a super low price today of 200.00. After almost a year out there are less than 15 games avalable? what the hell!

  16. Any star like this needs to do a least a year of prison time.... Its unbelievable with the fucking much money that cant find something legal to do. With that much money why not go over to another country and do it legally. Isnt like they dont have the money to get there and back. For all those that like to drink and drive. Go out buy 1000 acres of land make ya some streets and drink and drive all you frinkin want to. Those people deserve all they get. Maybe that much money makes you stupid and you cant help but act like a idiot.

  17. This is correct.... How do I know... Well I had a buyer do it to me on some records... All you need to do is find a local shop that sells cds and have them hand write on there letter head that it is a bootleg. Just some hobby shop that sells cds will do.. Once you have that Paypal will side with you no questions asked.

It was a real shitty deal for me becuase Paypal didnt give me time to go to my local hobby shop and verify that it wasnt a bootleg. Once they had that paper case closed. I didnt even no about the paper until after it was done. The guy was a huge dealer out of Memphis that new ever shop in town. Didnt make shit whether it was a boot or not I was gonna lose. Funny I sold that record to 8 other people and all said it was legitite.

Anyway thats old news.... Just get a hobby shop or just some mom & pop shop to say its a boot and case closed. Anyone can be a professional dealer:) as long as they are a registered business that sells cds

I’m here for the help of identifying the following item as either an authentic pressing or a bootleg. Paypal says they need documentation from a non-biased (third party) professional dealer or appraiser. They are asking for a letterhead to be faxed to them with the serial # and item description. If any of you are willing to do this for me (I know there are tons of qualified individuals here) please let me know. Also I’d like for all your opinions on the authenticity of these pictures of the actually CD I received, to be posted below. Thank you for your time.

  18. I don't have cable or satellite. I'm guessing that I'm in the minority. It's just not worth what you pay when 90% of the channels are complete crap. The only way to get all of the channels you want is to get one of the biggest packages and then you're stuck with a couple hundred channels you'll never use. It's a bunch of bull. If I could design my own package I could probably get everything I wanted with 30 or less channels.

This I agree with totally! Without going into much detail Check out the coolsats on Ebay:)

  19. OK. But I think a lot of people here are going to be surprised when they find out in a few years their "collectors" cds won't be worth anything. I would never bid more than $20.00 for any cd, no matter how rare. It is just not worth it. And I don't really understand the obsession over artwork. I have thousands of cds, cassettes, and vinyl, and I hardly even look at the artwork. I copy them to cd-r to play in my car (so that if they get stolen it doesn't matter). Somebody asked a question in an earlier post that I think I can answer here. They asked why record companies do not go after those who duplicate out of print material. The reason is, it is not feasible, nor cost effective. They are no longer vested in the material and are no longer generating revenue from it. Therefore, they would be spending a high amount of legal fees to get back next to nothing for their effort. Their main focus is to go after pirateers who are duplicating the current chart topping cds because that directly affects their revenue and the time and money spent would recoup a lot of their losses. Same with DVDs. Also, most of them sold the rights to Japan a decade ago. I hope that answers your question.

Actually the statement above "But I think a lot of people here are going to be surprised when they find out in a few years their "collectors" cds won't be worth anything." is not true. I too thought why in the world would anyone pay that much and 20 years down the road find its worth nothing? Having sold many different items on ebay related to music I found out real quick how high rare unknown music can go for. 2 Examples of that Jazz Records & Hillbilly rock. All Old and HIGHLY sought after due to rariety. Your talking 100s to 1000s of dollars each for this stuff.

Take a look at old Jazz records or Hillbilly Rock on ebay and see what you think. It sure will change your mind real quick on whether or not Rare hard to find music will hold value. Compare that to a Rare Elvis Record and Elvis will lose.

My thinking always was that 20+ years from now no one will care about this kind of music. We(not me of course:) will all be super old( Geoff, Dan, T-Bone) Ha!, that people will be only into the music of there time. Obviously that is not how it works.

I think these threads get started due to the shock we go through when we realize people pay this much for cds and the fact we have grown tired of listening to the mainstream stuff and want a change only to find that we cant afford to buy this stuff becuase of the prices it sells for.
