  1. Hell To Pay (toupee haha) - Dokken

I just got this and couldn't sleep so I decided to give it a spin......

I skipped every single song after the 1.5 - 2 minute mark.

Had I bought this when it first came out it would have made me want to drink beer from Don Dokken's skull.

  2. I FUCKING HATE MICK MARS.

What the fuck did Mick do to you???

Bob is fucking blaming Mick Mars for the new Crashdiet not being up to fuckin snuff.

    you fuckin lost me keef.

See the fuckin Crashdiet "Unattractive Revolution" thread. Mick Mars had a hand in writing a couple of tracks on the CD and Bob doesn't like the fuckin CD very much, therefore he blames Mick.

Crashdiet wasn't that good before Mick wrote his fucking songs anyway!!

Fuck that fuckin shit. Crashdiet fuckin rules.

  3. They do play it live. There is a difference between someone recording stuff because they are solo and then hiring a band to learn and play what they wrote and recorded and a band "dressing up" their recordings because they sound lacking. Here's an idea write a song that doesn't sound lacking without 3 guitars doing different things. I just view as a form of cheating. Very much akin, in my reckoning, to a band that can't pull off certain parts of their songs perfectly every time so they just copy and paste the "good take" in all the other parts of the song.

    Fuck that.

Be good enough to do it live or get your ass back to the drawing board.

  4. all my fave Crue songs are on that album....its like a greatest hits in itself.

and what about Joe Satriani and Steve Vai? they couldnt do what they do without playing more than one guitar part in the studio!

Vai and Satriani are solo artists of course they have to play more than one track. I am talking about bands.

  5. GnR only had two guitar parts (usually some embellishments were made but not a whole extra track).

Motley Crue didn't use pre-recorded rhythm tracks until Dr Feelgood (which happens to be a shitty album)

And Bon Jovi takes the wuss way out as usual.

I'm just saying if your band doesn't sound that way. Don't record it that way. Yourrecordings should be an accurate representation of the way your band sounds. Not an accurate representation of the way your band sounds with help from 35 session musicians.

  6. You are confusing doubling a track with adding a completely seperate part (i.e. Harmony lines, a different rhythmic patameter for the chord progression etc.). Like I said doubling a part is cool. I do that when we record. But I NEVER write a part that I would need a second live guitarist. Never. You don't hear motorhead with multiple guitar parts do you? And they are one of the most powerful sounding bands ever.

And as far as not limiting yourself due to a live situation.....that's crap. Live is where your bread and butter is and most people walk in expecting it to sound right. Why bring some extra nerd along when you don't have to?

  7. one plays guitar, the other plays keyboards..

Songs like You Give Love A Bad Name have 3 guitars, rhythm and two harmonised guitars....Bon Jovi dont strip their songs down live, they bring them to you as they were heard on the CD.

even if you dont like their music, their live show is excellent.

This is something that has bugged me about all bands for a while. Why put extra stuff on your recordings. I always make it a point to write songs that only need one guitar since I am the only guitarist in the band. There is no way in hell I would ever take out an extra guitarist on the road. That's like this band I saw in a club once. I don't remember their name but they had a keyboardist who played on 2 songs and the rest of the show he shot pool. How lame.

If you can't pull it off live with just your true band then don't fucking record it that way.

but you have a picture of Blackie Lawless, who did lead/backing vocals, lead/rhythm guitars, bass and keyboards on Crimson Idol, if im not mistaken.

how is he supposed to play that live as one person?

its down to arrangment, sometimes songs sound alot better with layered guitars or harmonies IMO. where would Motley Crue be without multi-tracking?

infact, i think most of my favourite bands overlay guitars.....Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, Motley Crue etc...

and if you had 3 guitarists, like maiden, and you want a song with only 2 guitars, or one guitar....then what do the other two guys do while you play it live?

Ok that post was just ridiculous. You have totally missed any and all points I was trying to make. Blackie recorded the crimson idol by himself because it is a personal record and he never planned to tour behind it. Multi-tracking (doubling a part) is fine because it adds a beefiness that you lose in the studio (which is made up for in a live situation by sheer volume). And if you have three guitarists then you can have three guitar parts. Ritchie Sambora is "The Guitarist" in Bon Faggy and he is the only one listed as a member of the band. Therefore they shouldn't record stuff that their "guitarist" can't pull off on his own.

    In Short :

Iron Maiden has three guitarists therefore they can have three different guitar parts.

Bon Jovi has one guitarist. They are allowed one guitar part. Not three different ones.
