  1. I've never heard of them before now, but you've got me interested. They're fairly fast paced pop/rock songs (not a bad thing) but it's those high pitched keys that really make it stand out for me. I'll add this to the want list. Thanks.

  2. I'm not afraid to admit but I love Marxy's music,

These would be my favourites, and yes as Geoff mentioned most of them are the hits, but there some pretty special non-hits as well. Paid Vacation would be my favoutite album of all. I also highly recommend his latest album from 2004 My Own Best Enemy which has 12 really cool sounding pop/rock tracks. 'Angelia' is amazing and what about 'Take This Heart' and 'Chains Around my heart' from Rush Street, those are some really kick ass sounding songs.

S/T 1987 - should've known better, don't mean nothing, endless summer nights, hold on to the nights

Repeat Offender 1989 - satisfies, angelia, right here waiting, children of the night

Rush Street 1991 - take this heart, hazard, chains around my heart

Paid Vacation 1993 - one more try, silent scream, nothing to hide, now and forever, goodbye hollywood, nothing left behind us, one man

Flesh And Bone 1996 - until i find you again

Days In Avalon 2000 - someone special, power of you and me, boy next door

And one of the most under-rated album ever:

My Own Best Enemy 2004 - nothing left to say, when you're gone, one thing left, love goes on, ready to fly, again, colder, everything good, the other side, someone special, suspicion, falling

Backed 100%. His first 3 albums were all about the singles with the rest of the songs being a bit patchy, but "Paid Vacation" is pretty much flawless, especially that Billy Joel song he did (can't remember the title). "My Own Best Enemy" is jam-packed full of hooks/catchy tunes.

'Miami 2017' was the Billy Joel cover and is an awesome version - my fave from that album as well. Of all his albums 'Repeat Offender' is my fave although as fahrenheit says above, his last release 'My Own Best Enemy' was really great as well. A Good solid discography throughout his career in fact.

You guys definitely got me interested in the last album he did now. I'm going to try and pick that one up somewhere. Guessing it's easy to pick up for a few dollars? I almost feel like going back through my old tapes to listen to 'Paid vacation' again too. But it's too much of a hassle to play tapes these days.

Yeah you've gotta get that last album, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Just listening to 'Until I Find You Again' from Flesh And Bone. Man that's an incredible song and it's the only good song on that entire CD. Sounds as though it should've been on Rush Street. I know that track was released as a CD single which I see on E-Bay from time to time. Worth picking up for sure.

I'll have to track down another copy of Paid Vacation, I've discovered there are two versions of the album, one with 'Miami 2017' & 'Whole World To Save' and one missing these two tracks.

  4. The story aint over - Avantasia

has anyone heard this? bloody hell its just awesome!!!

Yeah great track. Bob Catley's helps out with this song and there's a chick with a cool voice who can be heard more at the end of the song. Edguy fans should love this also. Man Tobias Sammet has an incredible voice.

  6. Well Brissy went well in both codes last week. Both the Broncos and Lions having wins. The Broncos absolutely crushed the Cowboys 36-2 @ Suncorp Stadium that was without Lockyer. But It was the Broncos defence that really won for them. Go Brissy!!!

  7. Just listening to Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want from 1999. I forgot what a great album this is. One of those discs I can play from start to finish and enjoy every song.

Are there any other fans out there?

The band released 2 independent albums before EYW, has anyone heard them??

  8. Hey that sounds awesome. I'll have to check out both of those solo albums. Which is the better one would you say?

I have the Nouveaux album (Beginnings) somewhere but don't think it impressed me as much as the songs I've just heard on Paul Alan's MySpace page. I never did get those Def Leppard comparisons that everyone made about the Nouveaux album.

And yeah those are decent prices - $19 for both solo albums, that'll be next on my list.

    Thanks for the info.

  9. After translating the text on this page to English, I've discovered that the list is actually in alphabetical order so I have no idea where the Chicago album fits into the top 100. But hey who really cares?

  10. I recently saw Chicago's 21 album come in at number 25 on a list of the 100 best AOR albums.

You can see the full list Here

This got me wondering, who the hell are Chicago???

I've heard the name mentioned on AOR sites everywhere, and always come across their albums when browsing through CD's or LP's at the shop but never cared enough to investigate their music. I saw on the HH main site they have 30 odd albums! What do they sound like, and which are their best albums? Is this band worth checking out, given that I like most of what is on that top 100 list?

  11. I just bought their Dear Diary album today and I was quite impressed. They remind me a bit of another of my favourite recent Aussie bands - After The Fall. Geoff if you haven't heard After The Fall, do yourself a favour and get their album 'Always Forever Now'. They're probably not as melodic as Kid Courageous but equally rockin'.

I don't really want to enter into a genre discussion/debate but I do want to attempt to describe this sort of music to others out there. Basically I see bands such as Kid Courageous, Jimmy Eat World, Motor Ace, Gyroscope, After The Fall, Just Surrender, Faber Drive, Best Of Seven, 18 Visions, Kiss Chasey etc. etc. etc. as modern melodic rock. Many of these bands do get labelled as punk rock but I think what separates them from other 'true' punk bands is the great melodies and overall smooth production that many of these bands have. I enjoy listening to these bands from time to time. It doesn't hurt to listen to something modern sounding once in a while.

  12. I am huge huge fan of Motor Ace, have been since their 5 track EP.

Five Star Laundry is one of my highest rated albums ever. It's hard to pick a favourite track but Five Star Laundry, Lorenzo, Budge, Siamese, Enemies, Criminal Past and Money & Sympathy are all very cool tracks. Hey Driver, Death Defy, American Shoes and Chairman Of The Board are cool as well but I think I played those one to death when the album came out.

As for the follow up album 'Shoot This', I think it deserves much more attention than fans have given it. There are some stellar rock songs on this CD, especially toward the end of the album such as Keeping Secrets, Ride The Wave, Where Did You Go, When The Day Falls and When The Feelings Gone.

Their 3rd and final album before disbanding 'Animal' was very poor.

Geoff I hear what your saying about the singles, I've got a heap of cool tracks that were never released on the albums but could quite easily have had their place on them. The singles I have are death defy, hey driver, carry on, keeping secrets, tomorrow's gone. Do you know of any others?

They were a sensational band to see live. I remember back in '01 or '02 seeing them play with two other Aussie bands Speedstar and Denvar, both bands that I since became a fan of.

  13. There have been a ton of great bands touring Australia lately, particularly in the Heavy Metal genre. I know many of the aussies on this forum went to see Ratt and Winger a few weeks back. Those are just two of the great bands that have come to our shores this year. I think many bands are starting to realise that they do have quite a solid and dedicated fan base in Australia, and we would love to see more of it. A few of the upcoming tours for early '08 that I know of include:

    Confirmed

    Bon Jovi

    W.A.S.P.

    The Poor (Supporting W.A.S.P.)

    Helloween

    Black Majesty (Supporting Helloween)

    Iron Maiden

    Ozzy Osbourne

    Saxon (cancelled but will re-schedule)

    Toto

    HIM

    Nightwish

    Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

    Budgie

    Velvet Revolver

    Dream Theatre

    Hardcore Superstar

    Rumours

    AC/DC

    Baby Animals

    Extreme

AND Jeff Scott Soto needs to re-schedule...

Anyone else?? Any other likely true-mours??

And a question for the aussies on this forum. Which artists/bands would you like to see tour Australia in the near future. For me it would be without a doubt - Whitesnake and John Waite. I would also love for Edguy to come back...they said they would so they have to.

  14. 'Blue' from 1991 was a tape-only release, they are supposed to release it on cd in 2007, lets hope that happens - awesome music :)

    :beerbang:

    Does anybody remember this band??

I'm chasing info about this band and their releases. The only one I've heard of is 'Blue' from 1991. Are there any others albums, ep's, singles? Are they really hard to find and can anybody tell me how much they've seen them sell for.

Any info at all about this band would be appreciated.

For those who don't know of them, check out their MySpace page and listen to a few songs.

    Washed On MySpace

Cool, thanks for the info. Yeah from what I've heard it is really deserving of a CD release.

  16. Best Of Seven

Hey guys, does anyone know this band. I recently got their self titled album and an EP called 'Everything Is New Again'. I've often heard them compared to Butch Walker/Marvelous 3. Modern Rock I guess. I quite like them. The band apparantly broke up last year.

    Best Of Seven - MySpace

Only one of the songs on the MySpace site is from their S/T album - not sure where the others are from but they're not the best examples of what these guys are capable of.

    Any thoughts on this band??

  17. OK I've just done a quick tally of those who have answered so far. The results are:

    Bryan Adams

    Yes=14

    No=7

    Unclear Response=2

    Richard Marx

    Yes=12

    No=8

    Unclear response=1

Majority should win but I realise this is a lost cause...

It's been fun to see the argument though!

  18. I got the Cherry Suede CD today. Some very nice songs to be heard. Will appeal to fans of Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi (later albums) and perhaps fans of Goo Goo Dolls & the like...

did you get that off cdbaby?

No I got it off E-Bay from a Canadian seller. Cost me $10 Canadian +postage
