Easy, GnR.

Ah, they are all great. If GnR wasn't in this list then it would be super difficult but in my opinion, Appetite is one of the best if not THE best release of that time/genre. Sure, the hits are overplayed on the radio but if you can put that aside this release was influential, top selling, controversial for its time, the videos (how many of you can picture a young Axl getting off that bus in the beginnig of Jungle)....GnR was everywhere. Appetite was so brilliant that many thought (and still think) that the Illusions releases suck when in fact they are pretty damn awesome themselves....but compared to Appetite...just shows how great it was.

Def Leppard-Hysteria for me. Although I am disappointed Pretty Maids-Future World and Bonfire-Fireworks were not on the list. I would have picked both these two albums before all others. Back in those days I listened to those tapes more than the others.

I went with Dokken, with GnR a close second. Good year for music, definitely!

Two more excellent albums not mentioned:

The Cult - Electric

McAuley Schenker Group - Perfect Timing

I forgot about MSG. What a killer album. I remember getting it on cassette as soon as I heard "Gimme Your Love". The whole album is fantastic!!!

2 great albums for sure, but for me not even in the same league as the Whitesnake / GnR albums.

Yeah, great album with 3 or 4 absolute classic songs. I think I just prefer 'Save Yourself' overall though...

I had to go with Guns N Roses, because it really rocked my world at that time..........Y&T, Whitesnake, The Cult and Aerosmith had really strong releases that year too. Also, Faster Pussycat's first CD came out then too, if I remember right. I saw Aerosmith on that tour with GNR as the Opener, Bon Jovi came out and did "I'm Down" with Aerosmith, must have been interesting backstage with Aerosmith, GNR and Jon BonJovi in the same area.....

In this list :

1- Dokken - Back For The Attack (my indisputable number 1)

2- Def Leppard - Hysteria (my second indisputable favorite)

3- Whitesnake - 1987 (5)

4- Kiss - Crazy Nights

But i prefer by far these albums to the other ones in the list :

Shy - Excess All Areas (3)

Stan Bush and Barrage - Stan Bush and Barrage (8)

Razormaid - First Cutt (7)

Pretty Maids - Future World (4)

Strangeways - Native Sons

Grim Reaper - Rock You to Hell

Outside Edge - More Edge

Icon - An Even More Perfect Union

Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien (6)

Foreigner - Inside Information

Triumph - Surveillance

Treat - Dreamhunter (10)

Whitecross - Whitecross (9)

Tokyo Blade - Ain't Misbehavin'

Frozen Ghost - Frozen Ghost

1-2 without words

but 3 to 10 is very difficult beacause albums from Grim Reaper Strangeways Icon Kiss... easily these ones will be there.

sorry for my fuckin english not is good but not is bad neither :guitbannana:

Your top 4 are unbeatable!

Where is Faster Pussycat's self-titled debut on that list? One of all time favourites!

That said, I went with Kiss.

Thats a good one too. If this poll was restarted (with a larger selection) and titled "What is your favorite release from 1987", the results could end up being quite different.

Tough call - had to go for Leppard over Guns in the end ... I really like 'Permanent Vacation', and 'Pride' ain't bad ... but as an 'old school' Whitesnake fan, I'll avoid '1987' like the proverbial plague, thank you very much ... :)

"1987" sure is a departure from the old school Whitesnake, but what about the Leps and their Hysteria? The change is even more dramatic when you compare it with High&Dry, don't you think?

Heathen! 'Still Of The Night', 'Crying In The Rain' ('87 style) and 'Children Of The Night' are choooons! Much better than any of the "old school" nonsense! :P

Oh, hell, yeah - and I love High 'n' Dry ... but I think the seeds for Hysteria were already sown with Pyromania (especially when you listen to some of the vocal harmonies ... give 'Too Late For Love' some polish, and it'd fit quite nicely on Hysteria.) If you listen to the three albums back to back, you can hear how the band developed their sound. The leap from Slide It In to 1987 is just a bit too jarring for me ... even with the the 'US Remix' of the former ...

I'm going to force you to listen to Crying In The Rain '87 until your ears bleed! ;)

(It has one of my favourite 2 or 3 guitar solos ever, simply incredible.)

Hm ... I appear to have put the cat among your pigeons, and no mistake! '1987' isn't a BAD album ... just not my favourite album from the year in question ... and certainly not my favourite Whitesnake album :) I will concede that you may have a point when it comes to the geetar solo ... now leave me to enjoy my Dad Rock in peace!
