best cd Def Leppard never made

theres actually quite a few def lep "wannabe" threads on here over the years. as def leppard are my fave band i look out for every wannabe. ive been stockpiling a list of all bands/albums that ive read over the years to be compared to def leppard (even if after listening to them i disagree, but hey its all up to personal interpretation).... its quite long.... ill add the rest when i get a chance... ive slowly been collecting them all and thought i nearly had them all - but this latest thread has revealed a few more suggestions.................... COOL!!!

O, then Phaffas, u gotta track down the XL release, or at least get the tunes as they will maybe become a fav of yours if u give them a shot. Solid stuff by all means, it was actually one of those releases that grew on me big time!! I liked it at first okay, then as time went on (a couple of shuffles in and out of the player), yeah, I'd say I really like it now, moreso! Recommended!

yeh Ripper, ive been watching out for it for a while but last time i saw it.... i think it went for about 60 bucks..... for only about 5 songs or something..... seems like everyone wants it...

Yeah, you're close, it's 6 songs... I started out liking the first and last the best, but now I like those 2 maybe the least..? All of them are great tracks though, with an awesome ballad "Love Has The Power"... O, and the chorus to "Look But Don't Touch" sounds like it was the DL gang themselves, heck, again, all of it practically does, no joke...

i realise that - its a bit of an odd one out - but it was definatly mentioned a few times by board members from memory as being "if def leppard went power metal".... not my opinion, just stating others opinions - personally i havnt heard them

cheers

Loved the cover!! Nice songs, too!

O yeah, I almost forgot (Blue Tequila's mix reminded me, good selection) about Starship's 1990 release that was produced by Mutt too. There's a ballad (song 4 if I remember right) that sounds so much like a Def Leppard song too, as do a others on that release as well. That whole album is a good one too, check it out.

Thanks! :drink: I hope my brother likes 'em. Just in case he doesn't I also got him Call of Duty 2 for PS2. Poor guy is turning 30 so I figured I should be nice to him.

While I wouldn't consider AdrianGale leppard clones, 2 of their songs , "Without A Moment's Notice" & "If" are VERY "leppardesque". :)

What Dan???? Steve Plunkett's "My Attitude" NOT a Def Leppard sounding release? Go listen again, and make sure you give "So Mysterious" a close ear. TOTAL Def Leppard! Pretty much "Promises" 9 years early. "Think About It" is also Joe Elliot style singing to a tee.

Just my opinion.

I hope you didn't take my post as a dig or a slam. I just figured I'd throw my 2 cents in on the ones I recognized, in hopes that other folks would do the same... the more points of data, the greater the potential consensus... :)

yeh no worries Dan, my reply may have come across a bit defensive. was just trying to maintain that it was just an interesting list id compiled of what people mostly on here had said at one stage, or on other stuff like NEHrecords site etc... wasnt trying to be a def lep copycat nazi:) someone said something here once along the lines of "one mans blue tears, is another mans queensryche".... great quote.

ill go thru the list now and give my opinion...

Best cd Def Leppard never made - What about the covers album, have they really made it or was it just a thing to try and get Andrew at Melodickrock.com in big doo doo. Seriouly is it ever coming out? It's taken so long people won't realize they are covers and think it's all new stuff. I have a good title for it "Chinese Democracy" or is that already taken?

they better put it out soon.... although im kinda over it already..., its been 4 yrs since X came out. i want a new rocking studio album. hopefully theyll put out the covers album, and that may signify a new start, so they can rock again.

  • 4 months later...

I've often said any album the Leps would have released between Pyromania and Hysteria would have been HUGE. Something in the late summer of 1985 timeframe. A bit harder than Hysteria, a bit glammier than Pyro. A meshing of those two would have sold 20 million!

There was a drastic change in the face of music between 1983 and 1987. Gone were most of the NWOBHM bands, and in came the hair-metalers. I think Def Lep did a good job of changing with the times, but I still like Pyro WAY more than Hysteria. Hysteria is just a bit too polished for me (I can't believe I said that). Something along the lines of Bon Jovi's - 7800 would have been nice. Yeah, 1985 could have been a huge year for them!

I know Blue Tears and BB Steal will get some votes. they rank very high and are on top a lot of the times but right now I have found a new love for the Bryan Adams CD Waking Up The Neighbors. I just got the cd after years of not listening to my worn out cassette and yeah, it is a fantastic album with so much Def Leppard in it that I swear I hear the Lep's singing background vocals. Produced by Mutt also didn't hurt
