Ken Tamplin is a distinguished figure in Christian rock music, known for his exceptional vocal range and guitar skills. His musical prowess has led him to be compared to mainstream legends like David Coverdale and his cousin Sammy Hagar. Tamplin's talents extend beyond performance; he's a masterful songwriter, and his work has caught the attention of TV and film producers. He also founded the Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, a popular YouTube channel with over a million subscribers, where he shares his vocal expertise.

Raised in a Christian home, Tamplin's early life was tumultuous, marked by drug use and family struggles. A near-death experience at age twelve and a compelling church encounter at fourteen led him to commit his life to Christ. His musical journey began with the formation of his first band, Revival, and later he joined the professional band Joshua. Tamplin eventually formed the band Shout, which released successful albums like "It Won't Be Long" and "In Your Face," both of which were nominated for Dove Awards.

Tamplin's solo career flourished with albums like "An Axe to Grind" and "Soul Survivor," showcasing his versatility across various musical styles. He also contributed to the band Magdallan before returning to his solo work, releasing acclaimed albums such as "Tamplin" and "In the Witness Box." Throughout his career, Tamplin has remained committed to his faith, using his music to share messages of hope and salvation. The release of "Stand Up and Shout" by Girder Music celebrates his extensive and impactful career, featuring many exclusive and unreleased tracks.

I dunno where else to post this, but has anyone else seen the controversy around old cringey Ken? He has been called out for faking live performances and for faking his vocal lessons, miming even going back to his early days in Shout.

What makes it super awkward is he has said "don't ask people to do stuff you can't do yourself" or words to that effect, and it appears he is not living up to that himself. It's all kinda spun out from a Wings of Pegasus video where I think someone asked Fil to look into it. Ken has since deleted several of the videos that he was called out for faking, which kinda makes him look even more guilty.

I dunno. I've watched a lot of his videos in the past (haven't followed him closely in about a year), and I'm pretty sure he can sing what he teaches. His react videos are what you need to watch. Those are 'live' and a lot less edited. His cover videos might be 'mimed,' but that's because you still want to present your absolute best, and not just your first take. People don't like his religious and political views, and I believe that taints their opinion of his career.

Ken rubs me the wrong way before this lip sync shit. Just found him creepy... mainly with the hot chicks singing on his channel.

In terms of the lip sync issue. That Pegasus video is pretty damning and that guy presents it all in a very scientific and methodical manner - not someone out to get him.

Ken's response video comes across as smug, defensive and patronising. Also, we get to hear that same fkn note he sings in every video he does.

Good luck to him and to everyone else. They'll get lots of views and life goes on and tbh I could give less of a shit... except I find him creepy and he lip syncs sometimes.

I have an old Intense Records best-of collection of Ken/Shout's stuff (At The Top of Their Lungs) and that's pretty much all I'm ever gonna need from him.

I could honestly not give less of a fuck about the recent lip-synch controversy involving him, cuz it's not like he's relevant anymore anyway.

The problem people have is he is still very relevant. His music might not be, but as a vocal coach he is one of the biggest names on YouTube. His channel has over one million subscribers and his videos pull down big numbers as well.

When you have a guy who pushes himself as genuine and is teaching people how to sing, when he can't even do what he is telling people to do, that is a big issue, especially when he charges for his services. And let's be honest, he was never that big in the rock/metal genre back in the day, but he is probably more well known now than he was back then due to YouTube.

I'm on vacation for a couple weeks, and can't be fucked to watch 50+ minutes of YouTube videos, right meow. But has anyone asked his students if they think he's a fraud?

    • I was a pretty big fan. Nature Of The Beast is a killer song. Saw them with Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets singing and he did an amazing job, but pretty sure they have a new singer now  I recently went through the two most recent albums before this one and there were a couple of ok tracks, but mostly mid. Fun fact: I saw the Angels a couple of years before Doc died at the Middle hotel in Ferntree Gully and they seemed to hate each other. Pretty sure Doc said nothing to the crowd all night. Fun fact 2: when they were building the transit bar in Melbourne, a mate and I found a service elevator that went to the roof, which was under construction. After peeing off the roof, which is always fun, we realised that we could clearly hear the music 5 or 6 floors below from a DJ I think. He was playing Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. We started yelling down the No Way Get Fucked, Fuck Off bit thinking we were hilarious. Then soon we noticed people looking up, and for some reason they seemed to be clearly hearing us. Another mate then called us to tell us security were on the way up the stairs so we took the service elevator down and managed to laugh it off. Stoopid drunk story I guess, but fun days.
    • Cheeky, getting your artwork in there. I wonder how you did that.  I like the vocal track on #1 and that'd be my pick. I personally don't dig the female versions of songs, because I'm not a female (yet?) and as these are songs written by ourselves I personally feel the best interpretation is an AI dude voice taking the place of your dude voice.
    • Yeah, that's great but this is obviously an accomplished musician probably completely in control of this output... not done with Suno, I'd bet. There's definitely dudes out there who are perfectly capable of doing their own music, like this dude, but for whatever reason might not be able to put a project together, again, for whatever reason... but this definitely feels a lot more like AI feeling in the missing gaps for someone otherwise in complete control of what he wants.  Either way, it is very cool indeed.  As Darkstone says, I'm not sure paying is the way to get the best results. I'm also not saying it isn't, especially with other platforms that are not Suno. I think already knowing what you're doing, musically, is the best way to get best results, personally. Suno, for example, is just perfect for someone who might enjoy writing lyrics but is not in any way shape or form an accomplished (or even adequate, lol) musician.  But yeah, it's pretty cool for some fun. I'm not sure if you checked out my links above. Keeping them pretty quiet due to lyrical content, lol, but you might dig some of the stuff in my links. 'As the moment passes by' and 'I'll wait for you' are two of my personal faves. Along with 'Faith to fall.'
    • Yeah, musically it's what you want, but vocally... Maybe Alex should take some vocal lessons from Ken Tamplin. ;}

    • Yep, although I was never a massive fan.
    • Yes, celebrating their fifty years. There only two original members left in the band. Dusty might agree with me the Angels died when the original singer passed away.
    • It's just not the same without the Doc though...
