Stryper: "Rise to the Call" (new single)

Recommended Posts

For better or worse, it sounds like a Stryper tune. As a longtime fan, I think it's a solid track, but certainly not their best. And thank God it's a lyric video because without it, I'd probably have no idea what Sweet was saying/singing half the time. :P

No, the search feature clearly is NOT my friend, because I checked before posting and Whiplash's post didn't show up. Oh well, doesn't hurt to have the video in the Christian section too.

Robert Sweet's drumming is still fantastic. If anything he is underrated. Love this track.

Just saw them back in May at House of Blues in Orlando on the "Calling on You" tour and he really is a beast live. I can't say I "love" this track, but it's a solid slab of metal and won't make me reach for the skip button.

Funny. I searched for it and it popped right up.

I've been on this forum for 20 years. Not the first time I've had a search function glitch. No big deal. I still maintain having a Stryper video posted in the "Video" section and the "Christian Rock/Metal" section doesn't hurt anything.

Oh I agree. Sometimes I know I posted a thread on somebody and then search my ass off and can't find it.

I feel your pain. Just giving you the business. LOL

Can't sing, or can't enunciate? Two different things.

Nah I'm sure your view that one of the most respected vocalists in the genre "can't sing" is totally legit.

I wouldn't say he can't sing. I just think he oversings a lot and his voice can be quite annoying after awhile.

:agree:

My original comment was more in jest in relation to the fairytale he believes in.  Quite annoying is a good description though, I sometimes feel his voice is channeling his inner yoda.  It's too bad really because musically the last few Stryper albums have been solid.

Not a huge fan,but respect the talent.I've always thought that the guy has always done a solid job promoting his brand (Stryper) certainly a lot better then a lot of the other Christian metal bands (and yeah I know he doesn't consider Stryper a Christian metal band - but it goes with the territory whether he likes it or not)

'Barren Cross' and 'Saint'...are a couple bands I still support when active, although neither had anywhere near the success Sweet and Co. had.Great bands nonetheless...

Stryper is a decent band although they have never come close to the greatness of Against The Law imo..... As for his singing he is pretty good....although if you don't like his vocals then so be it...I don't like Steve Perry's vocals but I would never say that he could not sing...;)

Fair enoughs. I just gave Fallen a listen today... I can't front. The band's tight. Michael sounds great, even if you can't understand what he's singing. But you fucks don't even believe in what he's singing, so why do you care??

Good point. I don't believe in the message behind sleazy lyrics or songs about drinking and drug taking but it doesn't stop me enjoying the music either 😀

Yep I align with atheism or even agnosticism depending on the day...but if you are closemindedly religious then most of the music discussed on this site would be strictly forbidden....I do not judge music by the lyrics alone and I suspect most people on the forum feel the same....

There are just as many close minded atheists as religious these days. I read plenty of comments on this site and others hating on people or music for expressions of faith. I think people/artists should sing about what they want to sing about. Personally I am put off more by negative lyrics that are anti something (political/protest) or are self loathing/depressive. Fine if people want to be all angry/negative but it's not for me.

I don't have an issue with the lyrics being infused with fiction.  I just have trouble listening to his vocals for more than a song or two at a time.

    • New EP out now, digital only. From rocknloadmag.com: Swedish melodic hard rock supergroup Crowne will release a new live EP entitled ‘Live From Studio Gröndahl’ on 19th August, a little treat to hold fans over as they await the release of a second album by the band. A live performance ‘Kings In The North’ from the EP is available from today on all digital platforms. The studio recording of ‘Kings In The North’ was the title track of their 2021 debut album, a record that truly delivered on the promise of the combined talents of the group members. Comprised of vocalist Alexander Strandell (Art Nation), guitarist/keyboardist/producer Jona Tee (H.E.A.T.), bassist John Levén (Europe) and drummer Christian Lundqvist (The Poodles), the record was a tour de force of Scandinavian melodic hard rock. It also featured guitar solos from Love Magnusson (Dynazty), who has now joined the line-up as permanent lead guitarist. ‘Live From Studio Gröndahl’ features the quintet tearing through five songs from ‘Kings In The North’ and allows fans to hear (and see) them playing live in an intimate setting. Crowne is the most exciting, thrilling supergroup created to date from the Swedish melodic hard rock scene. Having already crafted a beast of a debut, this stellar cast of outstanding musicians are currently working diligently to better it with the recording of its follow-up. • That's good to hear. The album Vanity Kills was pretty awesome. Some of the songs had bit of modern rock vibe to them which I thought was cool. Yep, hope we get to hear more music from you guys.
    • Album out now. Listen to the rest of the album:

    • Love these guys. In my opinion, they are more of hard/melodic rock than synthwave. Plenty of guitar riffs and solos. Another killer track, my fave song so far this year.

    • Yes, I'm the new bassplayer :). I have asked Ward Dufraimont to answer your question, as he is better suited to reply: In a nutshell : Expectations were high in 2010 with a debut album out on MelodicRock Records and big dreams, unfortunately the wheels started coming off from the word ‘go’. After losing our permanent drummer and rehearsal space and wasting precious time trying to sort that all out, frustration started to kick in. In an effort to keep moving forward, we recorded a second full length album in 2012, which sits unmixed on a hard-drive somewhere. Sometimes life gets in the way, and we decided to shelve the whole thing before friendships were lost. In 2022, with enough water under the bridge, we are back in full force, with a deluxe reissue of the debut album (out of print for years) to kickstart the whole thing. Playing out as much as we can, opening for the likes of FM, Jelusick, Gun, and others this year, spreading the word. We hope to have a new single out later this year, and more new music next year. A new decade, a new lineup, a fresh start. Nothing’s gonna stop us now !
    • New album out today.  Gave it one listen and seems pretty decent and in line with their last album. Worth checking if you liked their last one.
