Big hits or signature tracks that aren’t a favourite from big bands

Recommended Posts

It’s an anti “best of” list.
Songs that were big hits or band’s signature tracks that to be honest are not a favourite of yours...you can’t even add them to a “best of” mix on your phone or on a CDR...and some just down right suck!

Headed For A Heartbreak- Winger (so boring!)

Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi (Dead please!)

Dude Looks Like A Lady - Aerosmith (awful!)..Rag Doll was even worse

Cherry Pie - Warrant (not a bad song but the majority of the rest of the album is way better)

Mr. Roboto - Styx (I still can’t forgive Dennis for that mess)

More Than Words- Extreme (I like the song but damn that was so not the Extreme sound in general...my dad thought it was the Everly Brothers)

When The Children Cry - White Lion (I cry because I can’t take it anymore...too sappy)

Pretty Fly For A White Guy - The Offspring (nice sell out boys)

Enter Sandman - Metallica (It’s almost become a jingle and was so over played)

Silent Lucidity- Queensryche (I saw them live and they ended the concert with this one...talk about not leaving the show on a high)

Make Love Like a Man - Def Leppard.

Released as a single from "Adrenalize". I've always hated it. Easily the worst DL song IMO.

Born to Be My Baby - Bon Jovi (I can not stand that damn monotone chorus)

I'm with you on these

I could add a lot of ACDC, and then pretty much EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. ACDC close song.

God Of Thunder took me like 20 years to start to like

But I could add most of the Creatures In The Night album as not being my cup of tea.

Anything from Judas Priest except for Livin After Midnight, Turbo Lover and You've Got Another Thing Comin'

Fly High Michelle never did it for me.

Sex Action, Rip And Tear by LA Guns

Most Maiden stuff after Seventh Son. Looked up their average setlist for 2017 last night and was shocked at the songs on it taht I didn't know. most of them I'd tried to get in to but couldn't

First song I thought of. One of the weakest songs, imo, in the entire early discography.

pretty weak on disc but awesome live.

Some songs are just written for the live arena. The whole spectacle of the song with the double neck guitar and the line 'I've seen a million faces and i rocked them all'

I wouldnt stick it on now necessarily but as a 16 yr old watching the SWW tour it was great

I get the monotone in Born To Be My baby, but I'm ok with it.
Wanted DOA I always loved and still do :)

Really? I love that song, I had it as number 4 on my top 10, in the top Bon Jovi Songs thread.

I get some of those. For multiple reasons. Some weaker songs. Some not the best representation of the band and some just incredibly overplayed to the point of nausea.

I'd add anything by Aerosmith and U2.

And anything that made its way to MTV or top 40 radio during the 80's an dearly 90's.

One that is a little more pointed would be Summertime Girls, by the epic Y&T. Still don't hate the song, but this one is not a great representation of the band. Glad the radio didn't totally ruin it as well.

I do enjoy that BJ tune Born to be... and agree with Karpet that Steelheart are/were great.

I do like "Sticky Side Up". But those high pitched vocals kill "Never Let You Go" for me.

I was listening to this track today and it reminded me of this exchange between two Titans of this forum.

I remember thinking at the time, "Oh Alpha, how could you".

This song and the first two Steelheart albums are part of my DNA.

I'm usually hosting, so I'm never late for the party, but I still feel like this is my theme song. ;}

Ha! I'm just giving you shit mate. I do know what you mean. He did overdo it sometimes.

I love "Mama Don't You Cry". One of the best ballads ever. However, I've always found it slightly annoying the way he sings "Mama" in the chorus. It's probably a 9.5, but without that it would be a 10 for me.

    • A non musical one, but very fascinating. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Derren Brown, but he's a very talented British Hypnotist/Mentalist/Magician/Wizard. Back around 2008 he had a series. This is one episode that i've always remembered, although the other episodes were just as memorable. I might post them down the track.  The video goes for 45 minutes, but if you have the time it's well worth watching.  I've been tempted to try it myself. It's not really that difficult.
    • Aztec Camera - Somewhere in My Heart. A Rock/Pop song from 1987 that I've always loved. Back when every Rock/Pop band included a Saxaphone.
    • A mixed bag. Mostly modern garbage. A few okay sounding songs. Not for me either.
    • Yeah love the first two cds but this aint for me.
    • from various internet sources:   DOKKEN will release an album called “The Lost Songs: 1978-1981” on August 28 via Silver Lining Music. It was during those vital years that a young, motivated Dokken from Southern California stepped into Media Arts Studio in Redondo Beach to lay down some unfiltered, unpasteurized rock ‘n’ roll songs. He then brought those with him to Hamburg, Germany where Dokken (influenced by the likes of Scorpions) forged a historic alliance, working with a young German producer called Michael Wagener, who would later help craft multi-million selling albums for the likes of Motley Crüe, Metallica, and Skid Row – as well as Dokken. From the sunbaked SoCal hook of “Step Into The Light” to the “Back In The Streets” furious, fledgling, late- Sunset Strip sound, “The Lost Songs: 1978-1981” shows Dokken in the unfettered early days of balls-out attitude, as well as showcasing the song-writing skills which would see them sell over 10 million albums and him become an international rock ‘n’ roll star. Further cuts like “Felony” carry a thuggish fuzz-coated riff -think early Van Halen in really greasy embroidered denims- while “Day After Day” showed that Dokken could pen a radio-slaying ballad. The feral edge of “Broken Heart” and developed Dokken trademark of “No Answer” further illustrate the band’s fast growth, with “Hit and Run” standing as the very essence of exactly what Dokken would end up being to millions of ears for years to come. The result is an exciting look back at the genesis of Dokken, and the realization that from the very beginning, Don Dokken was lean, mean and hungry enough to make it all count in the years to come.   01 – Step Into the Light 02 – We’re Going Wrong 03 – Day After Day 04 – Rainbows 05 – Felony 06 – No Answer 07 – Back In the Streets 08 – Hit and Run 09 – Broken Heart 10 – Liar 11 – Prisoner Don Dokken – vocals, guitar Jon Levin – guitar BJ Zampa – drums Juan Croucier – bass with: Greg Leon – guitar Gary Holland – drums Mick Brown – drums George Lynch -guitar Rustee Allen – bass Bill Lordan – drums Greg Pecka – drums   PRE ORDER: www.amazon.com/Dokken/dp/B08991THWD
