This is their 5th release if i'm correct, the previous release had a female vocalist...in fact they've had a few different singers overall...but this one for me just fits.

Yep have tried to follow this band but with a revolving door of singers i gave up... this one sounds good though

Up to track 8 at the moment.

This sucks. Worst album of the year.

Only joking, it's pretty damn good.
If you don't at least like this then you have a problem

Jeez you intrigue me, mate. You are very cold towards some of the absolutel most essential music that gets released but you're into this one? I don't get it. By all accounts it's exactly what you dislike in terms of synth dominated stuff etc? You're a mystery. ;)

This is a good solid release but I'm going to lay this down right now - it'll be the most over-rated album of 2020. For me there's five good tunes and five that miss the mark.

These aren't awful, but are not keepers for me;

Disco Volante
Sonic Forces
Midnight Cruiser
Gotham City
Emptiness

These are choice cuts;

Headlights
Lights & Shadows

Tonight
Time to Deliver
Young Hearts

The last two are my favourite songs on the album but I hope the forum doesn't get out of control with praise for this one.

sorry mate but this is easily one of the best albums so far this year.

2020 has disappointed me so far. A lot of releases have fallen flat but this is like a breath of fresh air.

however in fairness I'm surprised you like any of it ..... I mean the whole thing just sounds like NFO to me.... including the songs you like

Haha, Geoff.
I guess you like what you like.
Syrupy poppy synth is what I find hard to take.
I don't break apart music and limit myself to expectations or differences with new singers.
I tend to listen to anything and if I like it I do.
I guess sometimes your mood can influence that>
I like Yanni, Sarah Brightman, ABBA, Old Dominion, The Elder, Van Hagar
I don't like much speed/death/etc metal, Judas Priest, 80's pop sounding current 'rock' bands, Carneival Of Souls, DLR VH

I have a 7 hour drive tomorrow, so I'll give this a coul[ple of more listens and see if I lean more towards you or Glen.
If I was in a tired/easily please/less critical mood when I first heard it, and don't think as much now, I'm happy to correct myself. :)

2020's been rubbish - I agree. Just a continuation of last year. But albums like this are basically the reason why. Everyone just releases good/okay albums these days and no one releases anything excellent anymore.

I hear a bit of NFO in this, but don't be too harsh. They're not that bad. ;) Haha. Nah, I don't hear the strong 70's vibe in this that NFO evidently have. This still sounds mostly like CBB to be... just a more consistent and clearly directed version of what they've done in the past. They finally set out to do something and did it completely.

It's a good enough album... just can't see it standing out come the end of the year.

Don't get me wrong, mate - love the shit out of what you love. Just surprised in one thread you say you don't know/like Crashdiet / Crazy Lixx... which are two pretty decent hard rocking bands - and then you turn around and like this syrup-fest. ;)

Anyway, enjoy what you enjoy. Just hard to get a read on it. I'd hate to try and recommend a band to you, lol.

I mean my tastes fall fairly well with the 80's scene like most people here.
Kiss, TS, Maiden, Motley, Poison, Warrant, etc etc
From there to now, obviously everything is different.
I have been influenced a bit by this site and the music thrown out. I am more AOR than I was.

I just added 5 newish albums that I haven't heard much for my trip tomorrow. Captain Blackbeard, Dirty Honey, Fate's last one, DiViscious and Papa Roach are the albums I'll be checking out more.

But if you were going to recomment music to me right now I guess looking at what I just put on my Spotify as my current staples. Bad City, Cats In Space, Gun, Shiraz Lane and The New Roses
So anything like them I will be into.
Somebody said NFO is a lot like Cats In Space which is why I will have a look someday.

Carzy Lixx, and Crashdiet, I kinda knew I had to get to them, but found out about them late so was already behind. I did 2 Crazy Lixx albums, and now amd going through the Crashdiet.
All about finding time I guess.

OK, so I played lots of otehr music on the drive up.
But the next day I gave this a listen again,
And I got what you were saying for sure.
Although for me the synth was not syrupy and fit the music well, it was poppier and more AOR than I'd normally go for.
I didn't hate it, but wondered where my previous comment came from.
Until I got to track 9 I think, and that was great,
Hate Gotham City, perfect average ending to a CD song.
Also I liked the first song.

Anyway, then I listened a couple more times on teh way home.
I came home by myself so could listen loud and really get a feel.
And I could see where my original comments can]me from.
I really dug it.
Will listen a couple of more times before I break it down, but I still say it's a great album.

The new Papa Roach is pretty great. First few songs won't be for many here. Not really my thing either but I like track 2 even though the first few (and a couple later) are a bit grungy or screamoy or whatever)
DeViscious was alos really good, really enjoyed that, surprised it didn't get more love here.
Dirty Honey EP was also really good. Very Electric Boys fell to it.

Yeah, I'm not as hopelessly lazy as I let on. I did a quick search after commenting. I'm not sure why I missed this last year, but I'm guessing the name turned me off.

    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
    • I remember my early days on the internet joining a group on Yahoo (yeah thats how long ago it was) and the woman who created the group was trying to persaude me how great Creed was, so much so that she sent me the first two albums on CD. I had no idea what they sounded like. When I played them all I could think is that they sounded like Pearl Jam, and I fucking hate Pearl Jam. I ended up trading them for something better. I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but I somehow shared my CD collection online and she noticed straight away that the Creed CDs were not listed. She asked me why and I said I sold them as really did not like them, and got something I did like. She never spoke to me again after that
    • Like I Do,Do - Bret Michaels
    • I have always been an on/off fan of Priest. Loved Ram it down and Painkiller, then kinda lost interest when Rob left. Only newer albums I ever got around to picking up were Angel of retribution because I saw it real cheap and Nostrodamus as I found the deluxe edition cheap as well. With this one though I was interested in what I heard and saw the deluxe edition looked cool. I then saw they were selling copies on the JP website with a signed art card in both standard and deluxe format, but baulked at the price of the deluxe as they were charging an extra £10 over the unsigned version, and postage was lumpy ... plus I was a few days from getting paid. By the time I went back on there the signed deluxe was gone but they had the standard version with the signed card and it was the same price as the unsigned version (guess nobody was buying it) so decided to buy that and order the deluxe from Amazon, keep the artcard and sell the standard CD on eBay as it is still sealed. So yeah, been playing the album today and on my third (or is it fourth) playthrough, and absolutely loving it. When bands like Bon Jovi are  getting soft as shit with age, Rob and the guys are still full on metal gods. At 72, Rob should not be able to still perform like this, but he fucking well is, so more power to him. Really good start to the year so far with the 2024 albums I have picked up.
    • Evidently, Tichy has joined up with Gene Simmons' solo band, and the Daisies replaced him with Tommy Clufetos who'd helped them out before. Be interesting to see how much more there is to the story....
