Welcome to my new rating stsyem

Green  = Great or killer song
Blue = Good song
Orange = Average song
Red = Very average song or crappy song

Here's what I think about the new Gotthard.
May even apply this to Harem Scarem and HEAT to see how different they are.

I don't know if it's me or you that's colour blind, but I can't see orange in there. I see green, red, blue and yellow. 😛

For me, not more than good, probably 7/10 type of album, is it safe to say that gone is the day that we loved Gotthard like we used to with those albums like Human Zoo, G, or Lipservice ?

Yet they dropped a lot of hooks and much of their musical style.
I like that album, but I'm sure tehre are a buch of people who say it is too heavy, different to what they expected.

"From the melodies, the lyrics, the image" it all changed
"They are just starting at square one again with" ... Slave
I mean "I just don't think they lost the ability to write a hook. I just think that this is where their head is at."
"Maybe someday, they will go back to the hooks." Well SR tried to and it flopped.

What? What's this post? There weren't hooks and melodies on 'Slave the grind?' Fuck mate, remind me some time to send you an MP3 rip of the album I own by a band called Skid Row who also released an album called 'Slave the grind.' Obviously we're talking about different bands and albums, but you should check this one out.

No hooks in 'Monkey Business,' 'Livin on a chain gang,' the three ballads, 'Get the fuck out,' fuck it, every song on the entire album. What a ridiculous post. ;)

Anyway. Gotthard. Suck. It's sad but it's true. Yes, it's probably mostly because Steve Lee is no longer part of the band and that can't be undone but it's still just a simple fact. Lee obviously had the largest hand in writing songs that appealed to Gotthard fans, because they were often good songs. He can't do that anymore and sadly Gotthard suck because of this. No one's fault, just how the cards fall sometimes. But no point sugar coating that this album is trash. One or two listenable songs, but sadly most aren't.

I wasn't trying to say that Slave To The Grind had hooks, simply using it as an example of a band that changed it's sound considerably.
In fact I was saying that the first album was hooky, and Slave wasn't and many people complained and hoped to go back to what they were doing.
This wasn't going to happen, as they wanted to change their style to a heavier sound.
You eitehr get on board with the changes, or you don't.

Settle down, turn of your coronavirus filled tv, and relax for a bit. ;)

Yes mate, that is exactly what I am saying. I know you are saying 'Slave to the grind' had no hooks and I am saying the exact opposite, that that is absolute garbage because it is full of hooks. Re-read the posts, mate. Both yours and mine. ;)

I cannot explain to you how much I have been avoiding this caronavirus shit and any news outside of my work hours (3:30pm until 10am the next morning is a carovavirus free zone in my life). Perhaps you should do the same, lol. :)

But yes, your point is well received and I was saying it was a terrible point.

Just on Gotthard, has anyone heard 'Dial Hard?' That was a rubbish album and not too far removed from their current output. Gotthard have sucked in the past, but came really good in the years leading up to Steve Lee's passing.

I don't really think Gotthard have changed their style too much. It's not too far removed from the 'Dial Hard' and majority of 'G' era. They were a really plain hard rock band bar a couple of songs (two killers on 'G') after their great debut. And they're a really plain hard rock band again. They excelled (when few others did) in the 2000's but have sadly regressed to their weaker days that followed the release of their great debut.

Fair enough, and some good points.
I would say that compared to the first album, Slave had much fewer hooks and especially melodies.
Like i said, I guess I was more comparing the different musical styles and how people reacted to the album at the time.
I'll admit that I hated my first listen, and to me was leaning more towards being too heavy for me (again, compared to what I was expecting after the ST album)
But I guess that's my point, I gave it a fair go, even thought I didn't like it much on the first couple of listens and grew to love it.

And yes, I am finding it hard to avoid coronavirus stuff.
Facebook is dead, news update every half hour.
It's pretty depressing stuff, hopefully all starts to get better soon.

Not sure if I mentioned it here already, but my contacts in China have told me it's pretty much business as usual over there now.
Masks and staying clean isn't a new thing for them, so I guess that has helped.
Also reported that some serious vaccine trieal taking place. Straight to human testing over there.
Also said that people are getting the virus more than once as well.

Yeah mate, fair enough. Seems like you're making a very odd point that by a band going heavier it means they somehow then don't utilise as many hooks or melodies than when they were not that heavy? Sorry mate, can't see any evidence, ever, of that, or the correlation between the two (heaviness and a lack of hooks). Bands have gone heavier and started writing terrible songs, like Dynazty or now Jaded Heart etc. They lose the ability to write hooks but I don't believe that's because they're heavy. It's just because they're shit and can't write a decent tune any more ;)

'Slave to the grind' is every single bit as hook laden as the debut, imo. Yes it's ballsy, but catchy as balls too. That was the brilliance of Skid Row at their best.

Pretty easy fix for corona overload- stop looking at Facebook!! My tip for the day, mate. It's absolute fucking garbage anyway and your life without Facebook in it will be far more enjoyable. :)

Anyway, that's really interesting news from your contacts in China. Would be nice if Facebook or news outlets sprinkled a bit of that amongst their reporting instead of the "You're all going to die!!!" reporting of it.

Quicksand Jesus had no hook or melody? Wasted Time no hooks or melody????

Are you nuts??

What was it? 2 weeks ago you were being slammed for your comments on hooks?

I think I clarified my points in the post above and conceeded that I was off the mark with some songs.
Stand by it for others, and the overriding point I was trying to make was about musical style changing and people not being happy about it.
That was the main reason for the example given, and poicking through fine points on comments about hooks is kinda redundant.

Listened a little bit to this one. My conclusion is that I like it, don't love it.

Mainly I miss real rockers. There are a couple but mostly it's between that and midtempo. I like the rhythms of it, but I would've wanted more air guitar worthy material. I like the songs as such mostly but less of I play the album from start to finish.
