I agree , it's rubbish

I liked the first couple of albums with Nic but this one and Silver are mindnumbingly dull , really don't get what they are trying to do these days

I finally gave up with Silver, despite Gotthard being one of my favourite bands.

What i dont understand is the complete change in direction from those last few Lee albums, to this standard rock. Why did they not put Nic into a sound like they were producing on Lipservice, Domino Effect and Need to Believe.

I actually quite like Bang, and Firebirth. But this and Silver are just.... its very dull and nowhere near their previous quality.

I wonder this too. They were cranking out some outstanding stuff. None of the Nic albums are even close to that level.

Yeah, bring back Steve I say....

Seriously, so stupid to compare singers in any band where it is impossible to return to what was.
Different singer = different band (most of the time)

Motley Crue
Van Halen
etc

It's the same with Warrant. Everyone was all like "he ain't Jani" and "this isn't as good"
Well, it's different.
As I said, I still haven't heard it, but if I don't like it like everyone else, I won't come crying about it not being as good as what Steve did.
It will just be a let down from the other recent material and I'll look forward to the next one, like I did with Harcore Superstar.

I'll continue to like old Gotthard, and will also continue to like newer Gotthard, and if I only get one or two tracks of this new one that I like, then so be it

If anyone hasn't liked anything since Nic, then I'm not sure why they are botehring to listen to new stuff and comment on it.

For me the thing is they haven"t changed style or anything, and Nic somewhat sounds like SL, They just can't write a decent song/hook. I guess we know who wrote all the GOOD/GREAT songs. And I think people are just holding out hope that each album they we finally do so.

That's why I kinda wish they would've got Tommy Heart. Good songwriter and he kinda looks like Steve Lee and isn't that far removed from sounding like Lee.

I gave this another shot last night while I was laying in bed. I just don't get the audience they are trying to reach with some of these weird songs. I will say I didn't make it through the whole album but I didn't think it was as bad as the first time I skimmed through it.

I've given it a couple of listens and there were 3 or 4 stand out songs that sounded pretty good to me.

The third song was ok, and the few songs after Marry Me were pretty good.

I'm hoping to find 3 - 5 songs off this.

I get where people are coming from, some songs are a bit out thre, and I'm not a fan of those much yet, and probably won't be.
But that won't stop me from bypassing those for the goods ones.

I'll take the original Abba version and Peter Cetera version over this...

There's also the Paradox version, which is pretty shit.
I feel they missed the boat a bit with this song. There were actually more guitars in teh original ABBA vesion.
Could have done with some thumping drums, creschendo guitars etc

But I'm liking quite a few songs off this album

I bet the guys get bombarded every time they release another mundane album with "why can't you do another "Domino Effect?", "why can't you do another "G"?, why can't you do another "Lipservice"?.......

And the simple answer is they don't want to. Maybe they were tired of the direction Steve Lee steered them in? Maybe this is how they envisioned the direction the band wanted to go? Steve Lee was this band 100%. From the melodies, the lyrics, the image..... it was all Steve. They are just starting at square one again with Nic and feeling their way. Look how long it took the original band to go melodic. They were just basically hard rock the first couple albums.

I just don't think they lost the ability to write a hook. I just think that this is where their head is at. Maybe someday, they will go back to the hooks. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Or maybe because G is 24 years old and Domino Effect is 13 years old.
Why did Motley do Generatione Swine?
Why did Warrant do Ulthraphobic?
Why did Skid Row do Slave To The Grind?
Why won't Kiss do another Destroyer?
Why won't Harem Scarem do more of the same from the first few albums?

I blame Steve. It's all because of Steve :)

Skid Row went from hair band on their S/T to full on metal on Slave.

Slave is still in my top ten all-time albums.

Yet they dropped a lot of hooks and much of their musical style.
I like that album, but I'm sure tehre are a buch of people who say it is too heavy, different to what they expected.

"From the melodies, the lyrics, the image" it all changed
"They are just starting at square one again with" ... Slave
I mean "I just don't think they lost the ability to write a hook. I just think that this is where their head is at."
"Maybe someday, they will go back to the hooks." Well SR tried to and it flopped.

Welcome to my new rating stsyem

Green  = Great or killer song
Blue = Good song
Orange = Average song
Red = Very average song or crappy song

Here's what I think about the new Gotthard.
May even apply this to Harem Scarem and HEAT to see how different they are.

They tried to do a Disturbed Sound Of Silence thing with SOS.
Sad as there were more guitars in the original.
On a few listens I don't mind it, but I was never a big fan of the Disturbed cover and this could have been way better.

Missteria is one of those songs that ended up in my head.
Was mumbling the chorus today at the shops and my wife asked what the hell I was on about lol

    • Another Robert Mason post, but this time I really do feel a connection with it. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but my name is Dustin.  Everybody calls me Dusty, so when I saw the new Warrant album (Rockaholic) featured not only one of my favourite vocalists, but also included a track called Dusty's Revenge, I couldn't believe it. I then find out that it's a concept album about a "Rockaholic" called Dusty. For obvious reasons, I love this album. Here's a couple of tracks.
    • Harpsichord.    I thought of it and it was random, so there you go.
    • From their FB page: Alcatrazz wish to make the following announcement: Back in late 2020 the brilliant Doogie White came in to help us out with our then already booked live dates after the departure of the previous vocalist (those dates were ultimately postponed to late 2021 due to the Covid lockdowns). We all had a GREAT time...and thus, one thing led to another and before we knew it we had made two fantastic albums and toured considerably in a nearly 4 year period. Now our schedule is getting busier and busier, as is Doogie's with his very fine solo work... and with that, the inevitable clashing of dates in our respective diaries, and needless to say, the impossibility of him being able to be in two places at one time. We remain on very very good terms with Doogie and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the band, he is very welcome on our stage anytime, as are all past Alcatrazz alumni. Current Warlord vocalist and someone already known to many Alcatrazz fans (as co-producer and also contributing songwriter for Alcatrazz's past 3 albums) Giles Lavery will be stepping up for the 2024 live dates - and with that we will be reintroducing many songs from the Alcatrazz past, including some not played in many years. Giles's first show is 22nd of March in New Orleans, lets all make him feel welcome and please lets also give a massive thank you to our dear friend Doogie White for everything he gave to this band since 2020, he is a true pro and a great person! Doogie has a video message to the fans that we will share later today as well. Jimmy, Gary, Joe, Larry.
    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
    • I remember my early days on the internet joining a group on Yahoo (yeah thats how long ago it was) and the woman who created the group was trying to persaude me how great Creed was, so much so that she sent me the first two albums on CD. I had no idea what they sounded like. When I played them all I could think is that they sounded like Pearl Jam, and I fucking hate Pearl Jam. I ended up trading them for something better. I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but I somehow shared my CD collection online and she noticed straight away that the Creed CDs were not listed. She asked me why and I said I sold them as really did not like them, and got something I did like. She never spoke to me again after that
