12. Dead of Winter: Written by Forslund, I am bought. I like this track. It's the first NFO album closer I like.

ha ha. I get ya. My final track on Internal Affairs is the bonus track American High which I love ;)

There are some brilliant parts but also there are some parts I don't like and I'm not used to that by NFO.

1. Servants: Sounds like their last album opener but I can't remember any melodies, chorus totally destroys it for me.

2. Divinyls: I don't like the synths being so close to the vocal melody, otherwise it's fine.

3. If tonight is our only chance: Great intro and verses but I can't stand the chorus. There's no flow... I don't like the drums imitating the "if tonight is our only chance" sentence.

4. This boy's last summer: Great song, only the main riff is almost the same as in "paralyzed" on their last album.

5. Curves: My favourite yet, a little like Domino but not a copy, good chorus.

6. Transmissions: This song has magic, even though I don't like the high frequency synths in the chorus.

7. Aeromantic: Starts great but the chorus is too modern for the rest of the song and it breaks the flow somehow.

8. Golden Swansdown: Could be a perfect song for me but the chord sequence when the second half of the chorus starts ("covered") feels wrong.

9. Taurus: The songs that are written by Forslund are usually my favourites. I like it too but I can't understand why the end this song that early.

10. Carmencita Seven: Again it's the chorus that destroys it for me. I just don't get pleased by that. I don't feel like driving on a highway in the night and sing along, it's too progressive for me.

11. Sister Mercurial: Trademark NFO drum beat, maybe a little too much, it doesn't work in the calm verses. Chorus is cool, overall one of my favourites.

12. Dead of Winter: Written by Forslund, I am bought. I like this track. It's the first NFO album closer I like.

8/12 songs are good, 4/12 are really not my cup of tea. So I think the album is good but not as great as the last two albums.

I’ve never read such a positive review that is all criticism. That type of review takes the fun out of listening to music.

I agree with some of the criticisms. Nowhere close to Amber Galactic, their best.

I was thinking that too but the more I play this the better it gets.

it's possibly the best flow they've had to an album.

And defo the best end.

I'm not sure they'll ever top AG as it was my favourite album of the last 10 years but this and STWAE are close.

Aeromantic does have the best flow. But all three are superb....I also adore the debut.
If I had to introduce someone to the band I might play Amber Galactic first.

Yeah, porobably. "Domino," "Josephine," and "Space Whisperer" is just an awesome back-to-back-to-back.

You’re right about the closing track....I just checked my NFO Spotify playlist and I’ve left off two tracks from Amber and Sometimes....both the last tracks. However the closer on the debut Internal Affairs “Green Hills of Glumslov” is melodic bliss.

But, "The Last of the Independent Romantics" is one of their best tracks.

Period.

ha ha my last track is American High which is even better ;)

And the only weak song on Amber Galactic is the last track. They don't need to include cover songs - stylistically it sticks out. They should have just put the Jap bonus on the regular release which is a great song or left in as a 10 track album.

First time ever that Strid has over sung imo. It's a great track but is marred as you can barely understand him in places.

I've never really done this band before either.
Maybe some songs I've heard were to synthy and/or poppy? That's usually the reason.

The song above reminds me of a Flashdance type thing - the dancing girls in it probably help that thought.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, I didn't mind the song at all.
I'll probably get to them some time with an open mind and see how it goes.

Edit: Just listened to some more samples, and this may be stating the obvious, but a pretty huge 80's vibe to them all.
I get a Gerorgio Morodo feel, sometimes Xanadu, sometimes DiAnno (the band that released on poppyish album)
I think when I give them a go they will at least be easy listening.
probably the kind of thing I can put on at work for a pretty large cross section of customers

I agree with the too synthy/poppy. It borders on disco. :puke:

don't be ridiculous.  prob about 10% of their songs fall into this category.

listen to songs like Midnight Flyer - that they will blow your balls off. Pure rock awesomeness.

I can't agree with that. The emotion in his voice gives me goosebumps, and I have no problem following along.

No, you are very happy where your balls are. You don't know if maybe your balls would be happier apart from you.

I listened to this a couple times over the weekend.  It's a good album but I'm certainly not blown away.  It felt very same-y to me.  I also ended up downloading "Satellite" off of Youtube and adding it as a "bonus track" to the album since it's so good.

Love it..although I still think 'STWAE' is better over all...

And Karpet is quite correct in his conclusion that 'The Last Of The Independent Romantics' is their finest song so far. ;)

I thought I was losing my mind. Somebody had to agree with me. Of course it was you.

I have a great relationship with my balls.
We are like kindred spirits.
I am always well aware of how they are feeling.

    • Another Robert Mason post, but this time I really do feel a connection with it. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but my name is Dustin.  Everybody calls me Dusty, so when I saw the new Warrant album (Rockaholic) featured not only one of my favourite vocalists, but also included a track called Dusty's Revenge, I couldn't believe it. I then find out that it's a concept album about a "Rockaholic" called Dusty. For obvious reasons, I love this album. Here's a couple of tracks.
    • Harpsichord.    I thought of it and it was random, so there you go.
    • From their FB page: Alcatrazz wish to make the following announcement: Back in late 2020 the brilliant Doogie White came in to help us out with our then already booked live dates after the departure of the previous vocalist (those dates were ultimately postponed to late 2021 due to the Covid lockdowns). We all had a GREAT time...and thus, one thing led to another and before we knew it we had made two fantastic albums and toured considerably in a nearly 4 year period. Now our schedule is getting busier and busier, as is Doogie's with his very fine solo work... and with that, the inevitable clashing of dates in our respective diaries, and needless to say, the impossibility of him being able to be in two places at one time. We remain on very very good terms with Doogie and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the band, he is very welcome on our stage anytime, as are all past Alcatrazz alumni. Current Warlord vocalist and someone already known to many Alcatrazz fans (as co-producer and also contributing songwriter for Alcatrazz's past 3 albums) Giles Lavery will be stepping up for the 2024 live dates - and with that we will be reintroducing many songs from the Alcatrazz past, including some not played in many years. Giles's first show is 22nd of March in New Orleans, lets all make him feel welcome and please lets also give a massive thank you to our dear friend Doogie White for everything he gave to this band since 2020, he is a true pro and a great person! Doogie has a video message to the fans that we will share later today as well. Jimmy, Gary, Joe, Larry.
    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
    • I remember my early days on the internet joining a group on Yahoo (yeah thats how long ago it was) and the woman who created the group was trying to persaude me how great Creed was, so much so that she sent me the first two albums on CD. I had no idea what they sounded like. When I played them all I could think is that they sounded like Pearl Jam, and I fucking hate Pearl Jam. I ended up trading them for something better. I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but I somehow shared my CD collection online and she noticed straight away that the Creed CDs were not listed. She asked me why and I said I sold them as really did not like them, and got something I did like. She never spoke to me again after that
