I've been struggling for the last 2 weeks to get to my top 5 albums of 2018. I started with 12 potential contenders and have pared it down incrementally... to 6. And that's where I've been stuck for the last 3 days. I simply cannot figure out which one of the 6 to remove.

The Lazys has a good vibe, but few standout songs for me. 'Young Modern Lightning' is a pretty excellent ballad, though.

I had no idea Diemonds released another album this year...

Half Mast Blues a great song. Never been there myself mind you.

Lots of good humour on the Lazys album.

No clues... cuz once I have the 5 all ordered we're gunna do a guessing game like we did last year.

Dan, if it's not in your top 5 then you should definitely hear Beyond The Black before compiling.

Right up yr street and better than Within Temptation imo.

agreed, the first half of their latest album is really good, especially the opening track 'Hysteria'

5    .    Boys of Fall     -    Chasing Lonely     -    79
6    .    American Secrets     -    Wasn't Our Season EP     -    78
7    .    Monster Eats Manhattan     -    Cages - EP     -    78
8    .    Caught In A Wave     -    High - EP     -    76
9    .    Assuming We Survive     -    Chapters - EP     -    75
10    .    Nerv     -    Bad Habits EP     -    75

never got a chance to comment on your list.

Been listening to Slaves.

Really cool album - very similar in style to Don Vedda (without the solos)

Probably would have been in my top 20

Yeah, as I said in my comments, it's definitely worthy of several higher spots in my list. If you like it, do yourself a massive favour and immediately access Awaken I Am - 'Blind Love' from 2017. I'm seeing these guys and Secrets on Sunday so I've been spinning it like mad and it probably deserved to be in my top 10 in 2017 - really love the album. Sadly I think I only heard it in early 2018 after seeing a list from Gotthardline in the aftermath, so I think it missed my end of year list in 2017 all together.

It's probably a bit better than Slaves, imo.

Funnily enough, I have every intention watching Awaken I Am open for Slaves at the end of March this year too. Will be an interesting show as they're such similar bands. Thankfully, both excellent.

One month down of 2019 and this is surely the slowest start ever? Probably only listened to 3 or 4 new albums and of those only the Wake the Nations caught my attention.

Yep, need a couple more 2018 lists to see what I've missed.

It will be challenging to find a better (hopefully Work Of Art) from  the latest Syu (my favorite guitarist at the moment) solo lp. I wished he released 2 cds, one with my godess Fuki and one with Haruma. :wub::wub:

Yes. Um, that'll be real hard to beat. Not sure it's going to be possible in 2019.

Oh look, my pug just walked through the doggy door and I had a tape recorder next to it and recorded the flapping of the doggy door. And already we have something better. ;)
