I guess they're still making the broth for the Groundbreaker soup...

When I found out that Kendall took the vocal duties, I felt like I've been given a free bike.

Easily my most anticipated release.

FIFTH ANGEL - The Third Secret (October 26th/Nuclear Blast)

FIFTH ANGEL recently put the finishing touches on their first new album in almost 30 years “The Third Secret”, which will be released on October 26th. The album features the incredible talents of guitarist and lead vocalist Kendall Bechtel, bassist John Macko and drummer and backing vocalist Ken Mary. Says bassist John Macko, “When we began this process, we always were mindful to write songs that moved us as a band first. We felt that if we achieved that, then the music will most likely touch our fans as well.” Adds lead vocalist and guitarist Kendall Bechtel, “We are very proud of the new album! We hope the fans will hear the classic threads of the FIFTH ANGEL they know and love, along with the growth and maturity the individuals of the band have gone through over the years. We hope they love the new songs as much as we do!”

Today the band reveals the album cover artwork, created by Zsofia Dankova (POWERWOLF a.o.) as well as the tracklist:

01. Stars Are Falling
02. We Will Rise
03. Queen Of Thieves
04. Dust To Dust
05. Can You Hear Me
06. This Is War
07. Fatima
08. Third Secret
09. Shame On You
10. Hearts Of Stone

FIFTH ANGEL will release their first digital single & lyric video for “Can You Hear Me” on September 7th. Same day, also the album pre-order will start.

Kane Roberts posted a few updates on his FB page over the last few days regarding his new album.  Unfortunately, no release date is mentioned...

I have no more tracks to do on this CD for Frontiers but I wanted to see the progress on our first mix....Def keeping my fingers off the tracks now. Resisting the temptation to re-sing this or re-play that. Plan A is to deliver the Masters to Frontiers before the 26th.  I'm getting CD graphics and credits lined up as well. Keep you all posted.

Still no official release date (sigh), but last weekend Kane Roberts posted on FB "New CD 100% mastered and ready to drop soon"

    • Cool tune - massive s/t album type vibe to it.
    • Could be. I think they have better distribution in Europe.
    • Trace - Line Of Fire Passion Play - Time Stands Still Mike + The Mechanics - The Singles 1985 - 2014 (2 CD) Frameshift - An Absence Of Empathy Lion´s Share - Dark Hours + 1 Platens - Between Two Horizons No Sweat - Tear Down The Walls (CD-single) Texas - Tired Of Being Alone Acoustic EP
    • Then later by AOR Heaven also I think?
    • No doubt in the world he has a sound and he doesn't stray far from it... but if it's that good I'm prepared to be lenient here,
    • Also, the boulevard album is near perfection except the 1 minute of madness at the end of Slippin Away. What were they thinking??  Might be my most played album of 2017. More accurately would no 2 spot. really looking forward to seeing them again on Saturday
    • Yeah, I love the original.
Interestingly, Sly Stallone wanted "Another One Bites The Dust" and Queen wouldn't allow the ise, so he asked Survivor to write their version of the Queen song.
The watched some of the movies and saw the line "you've lost the eye of the tiger", liked the line and wrote the song.
Another footnote, for the next movie they were presented with that "you're the best... around" song and rejected it and it went on the get fame in the Karate Kid movie. Anyway, like I said, I love the original song, but to me it sounds a bit rawer than this version.
This version doesn't suck, it's just average in the way of "what's the point"
Nothing new, no new take on the song.
if you're gonna redo a song like this, it has to be (as Paul Stanley would say) bombastic.
      This isn't.

No biggie, but of all the covers are lesser versions of the originals I'll obviously have no interest.
To cover a song you either improve it or do your own take on it.
Simply re-recording it with newer technology and a cleaner sound etc is not very inspiring.
    • Not sure what you mean by that. You reckon this version is more AOR than the original? Bonfire are by nature a bit ballsier than Survivor in that era and this just sounds like Bonfire doing a Survivor cover, which, by nature, is a bit more hard rock than AOR... to these ears anyway. Decent cover.
    • Why are the making the songs more AOR than the originals? Very average.
