I like Dream Theater's early stuff. Isn't that considered progressive?

And I dig Fates Warning too.

Threshold defeat DT in every department.

:yikes:

Especially the song writing one

It only needs one Space Dye Vest to wipe the floor with the whole discography of Threshold... :aw:

Ludicrous comment. But to each their own

Holy Crap this is awesome!

No doubt will be in my top ten....and high up there.

Teramaze provided the great Prog release of 2015, Fates Warning in 2016 and now Threshold in 2017.

My one and only complaint is that I wish they had trimmed just a few minutes on each disc to be able to make one single disc. Having to change discs gets a bit annoying in the car ?

I'm a massive fan of Threshold. So many good songs over the years. Mac is still my favourite singer, but both Damian and Glynn are great too.

Looks like I'm in minority here, but I was actually left a little disappointed with the Legends album. Small Dark Lines is a belter of a song and ranks top of my list 2017. But I miss more songs like it on the album. For me, there is just not enough pace on the album, if you know what I mean. Still a good album, but after hearing SDL I expected so much more.

Why do I love this band so? Let me count the ways:

  • Great musicianship
  • Great songwriting
  • Well-produced backing vocals no matter who the lead singer is
  • Amazing hooks and melodies
  • Sludgy guitar tone
  • Intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics
  • Keyboards that add atmosphere

I could go on and on. These guys really are the quintessential prog metal band IMO; you know what you're getting every release, they have their own sound down pat but add something new every time to the point where it doesn't sound samey. Wish more bands took their approach instead of huge wankfests and/or djent chugging.

Never dabbled in Threshold. Progressive tag probably put me off.
But this one has been on my list for agaes for whatever reason.
My three thoughts

1. Some songs I am digging - Stars And Satellites probably more, as it's one of the less progressive probably
2. Some songs remind me of Cats In Space - well a second tier CIS
3. Damn it's hard to give this a good listen because the songs are so... damn... long

I'll keep on persisting with it...

Spoiler alert.

I wouldn't bother. ;)
