So, I've been listening to this one quite a bit lately and I can honestly say I haven't been this pleasantly surprised with a new album since Treat's "Coup de Grace."

"UNITED" isn't just good, it's bloody-well awesome. I doubt very seriously another CD will be released this year that I'll like more.

My impression so far is this: first 4 tracks good and diverse, after that the songs don't grab me as much. Maybe I need to focus more as I find myself spacing out and not really paying attention to the later songs

Pretty much my summation too after about 5 spins

Wait, what??? You dudes have lost it...........

What about 'One of Life's Mysteries', 'Bite the Bullet' and 'Things I Knew' which are basically the best 3 songs.

Also United and Gravity (which are in the first 4 last time I checked ;) ) are just a bit normal imo.

Maybe it's just track order, because United is the first song and I'm still like ''okay, it's no killer but I ain't bored yet :D'' so could be that it's working in that track's favor haha

Gravity is ''normal'' yeah, but I love the verses, really groovy guitar work I think.

But like I said, will have to give it a few more (dedicated) listens to see how I feel about the whole album

Yeah, I actually agree with the creepy British guy. 'United' and 'Gravity' are easily two of the album's weakest songs. 'One Of Life's Mysteries' is the album's best song, at track 5. And then 'Things I Know,' 'Heaven & Earth' and 'Indestructable' are all the album's next best tunes, alongside 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow,' which I guess we all agree is great.

But yeah, I definitely don't see any truth at all to the "first four" theory. ;)

You actually surprised me with this post, mate, I'll admit. You've proven to be such a "purist" in the past, I'm surprised you look past all the "modern" 'Voice Of Reason' elements and enjoy this one so much. But it's cool. Lap it up. It actually sounds like those elements disturb me more than you, lol, which is odd.

And what elements would they be exactly??

I cant trace anything 'modern' about this release??

It depends if you find that Rubber rubbish to be modern or not. I do. Well, it was modern, 15 years ago.

But if you can't hear 'Voice of Reason' and Rubber in this album you're just not listening to it right. One of the songs actually came up on my Ipod tonight while I was getting the kids ready for bed and stuff - I can't remember the name - but I was going through the motions thinking wow, I actually don't really like this song. So down-tuned and ugly in riff. Sounded like modern Europe or something. But overall it's a good album. Might just have to cut that song from my playlist, whatever it was.

Probably United or Gravity. I don't think either are particularly 'modern' but both are only OK songs. Defo the 2 weakest.

The rest is excellent imo...........part from maybe No Regrets which im not massively sold on.

And no....no trace of Rubber to these ears..........thankfully.

Said earlier I've never been huge into these guys...Have liked songs here and there but they've really never grabbed my attention for whatever reason.

Anyways, after seeing so many positive reviews and liking the song Here Today Gone Tomorrow a lot, decided to buy the album and give it a solid try.

Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised and enjoying the album. My favs are probably Here Today, Bite The Bullet and Sinking Ship. One of Life's Mysteries, Things I know and Heaven And Earth aren't too far behind. The only songs that really aren't doing too much for me are The Sky Is Falling and Indestructible but they're still okay. Overall, pretty darn solid melodic rock album with some great production, solid song writing and guitar work that gives it a little bite. I don't know yet where it'll fall for me this year...Probably 4th at the moment behind Crazy Lixx, TMF and Eclipse...But I like it slightly better than the One Desire album.

I swear what I've mostly heard before from these guys was a tad bit more mellow or something....Maybe I just listened to the wrong songs...Or maybe I'm a little more open minded than I used to be. However, I did stream the Thirteen album last night and have to say it didn't really grab me at all...Just didn't seem to have the same vibe as this new album.

I'll have to re-check some of their previous works though....Has to be other good stuff I'm missing.

Can't go wrong with the first two discs, that's for sure!

You're right, Geoff... I normally (almost always, actually) shy away from anything and everything that incorporates a modern twist. I'm stuck in the 80's and I readily admit it.

But this one (and FM - Indiscreet 30) are "different" for me. Not exactly sure why, but I absolutely love them both.
