From thechristianbeat.org:

The Union of Sinners and Saints, a band featuring Petra’s lead singer John Schlitt and Whiteheart founding member Billy Smiley, is bringing back an oldie, but a goodie with a new recording of the No. 1 hit “Independence Day.” The remake, originally from Whiteheart’s popular “Powerhouse” album, was produced by Smiley and features Schlitt’s distinctive vocals. The single, which is being released today, is going for adds at Christian Rock and Christian CHR-formatted radio stations.

Jeff Van Driel, CEO and Founder of Suite 28c Records, commented “Whiteheart and Petra were a big part of what formed my musical taste growing up in a small rural town in Canada and this album combines the best of what made those groups so special. It is truly an honor for Suite 28c to represent The Union of Sinners and Saints and hope that this record reaches many with its message.”

“Independence Day” is from the eponymously-titled CD of ten original songs and updated versions of Petra’s Beyond Belief and Whiteheart’s Indy Day, set for release on June 17 and available for preorder now on iTunes. In addition to Schlitt and Smiley, the band features Whiteheart bassist Anthony Sallee, Jason Fowler, Jon Knox and Jonathan Crone.

Though a new band, The Union of Sinners and Saints combines members from two of the best-selling Christian rock bands in history. Petra and Whiteheart collectively have sold more than 12 million records, charted 25 No. 1 songs and garnered numerous Grammy and Dove Awards. In addition to the musical histories, the band also merges the friendship between Schlitt and Smiley.

"John and I got together last Fall and started writing some songs and discussed both of our histories and journeys,” Smiley said. “After seeing the chemistry and friendship that developed, we were excited with the new material we were creating, and started brainstorming about taking this out on the road this year.”

“It only made sense to feature Petra and Whiteheart favorites along with some of the new songs we were writing in the studio.” said Schlitt. “We realized we had a lot of new ideas swirling around in our heads that we wanted to share, both musically and lyrically, songs that were on our hearts and minds. And yet we also wanted to celebrate with all of our friends and fans some of the memorable songs, moments, and performances that they have been a part of over the years.

“The album and live events,” Schlitt said, “will incorporate the kind of artistry and ministry that will remind (fans) of the early years of Christian Rock, but also usher in a new energy and excitement.”

The Union of Sinners and Saints currently is touring throughout North America
in support of the new music.

Cant tell you how excited about this i was.... and how im not anymore...2 of my favourite groups coming together and.. flopping. I still love John's vocals but the songs need to be good for him to shine. They are very bland rock.

The Independence Day (Whiteheart cover) and Beyond Belief (Petra cover) are NOWHERE near as good as the originals... and should not have been done. Some tracks like Old Guys Rule are just plain awful. OK, there are a few tracks that are great from what i briefly heard but what a wasted opportunity for something great with the people involved.

Theres another guy who sings some lead vocals on the album too... quite a good voice - not sure who it is..

That's really disappointing to hear. I'll be honest, releasing a hymn as their first single already had me suspicious, but I was hopeful. Plus the roster on this had so much potential. I mean, they got bloody Dann Huff!

Yeah, what a great roster!

If you're a creepy christian freak.

Sounds awful to me... as bad as the band name.

    • I'll give you one example. Tax cuts. Everyone loves tax cuts right?? and according to Trump every American got a tax cut in 2017.....but here are the facts - According to estimates from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, while most Americans will benefit at least somewhat, the top fifth of earners get 70 percent of the bill’s benefits, and the top 1 percent get 34 percent. The new tax treatment for “pass-through” entities — companies organized as sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, or S corporations — will mean an estimated $17 billion in tax savings for millionaires in 2018   Sorry that's just wrong. And this will add over $1 trillion to national debt. Tax cuts for people expire in 2025/6 while corporation is permanent. Hello austerity measures. Trust me that ain't fun as the UK has found out for the last few years after Labour almost bankrupted our country.
    • by intelligent he means looking into things beyond the basic stats and lies which are generally used to gloss / cover up what resides beneath And yes Nordic Union will receive no more spins from me. Besides being one paced and generally dull the songs aren't helped by Atkins straining throughout.
    • I like the song, country vibe or whatever it is. Agree with comments that it wasn't what I expected when I saw the pic. It kinda looks like 3 band members, and they didn't like the look of the 3 of them together, so they asked a sound mixer to stand in the background lol
    • And by intelligent I'm assuming you mean people that follow what's trending in hip circles without looking into things for themselves?  I'm Australian and give very, very little shit about US politics. But I still listen to things and I don't think Russ is alone in his opinion that Obama was a very poor president and that, whether you agree with his politics or not, Trump actioned more stuff in one month than Obama did in years?  Nordic Union album still sucks balls.
    • Very different to what their image suggests. Lose the country vibe and they're onto something. Not bad at all.
    • Acoustic rocker( I wouldn't say "Country"). I like it
    • On first listen through, this album is "meh".  Lots of songs that sound very similar and nothing that sounds particularly inspired.
    • just heard another snippet and it sounds identical again. I'll give this a go for sure but this dudes songs all sound the same. it's a bit weird
