The Defiants (Paul Laine/Bruno Ravel/Rob Marcello) - s/t

Recommended Posts

Really looking forward to this one. Not worried about this one being country at all. It's on Frontiers, Laine has Darkhorse covering that genre and as Geoff pointed out Ravel and Marchello's melodic rock roots are too deep. Cover is ridiculous unless they are doing it tongue in cheek. Concept is fine but the execution is lame. Looks like they got outfitted at an old time western kiosk at a country fair.

And what's up with Danger Danger? I thought Ravel stated it was just too labour intensive to put out a cd and yet one half of D2 are here applying their talents to this release. Westie and Ted too busy?

Yep, I made that point too. It doesn't make sense to me that this is a priority over D2. Don't get me wrong - the more music these guys make, the better. But it really doesn't make any sense; the reasons we've seen that there can't / won't be new D2 music.

Nightrain suggested that making a new D2 album would be too expensive and that there is more money in touring. But to that I'd point a heavy and glaringly obvious finger at this project. It's too expensive to create a new D2 album - which will sell more copies in week one based on the band name alone - compared to this album which will never sell even close to any kind of new D2 title over the next 20 years??!!

I bet this is going to be one awesome disc.

I don't bet shit anymore. On anyone. But I'm really hoping it is.

Song titles are sounding like it should be awesome.

That's pretty much what has me as hopeful as I am, right now.

No, I wouldn't say that. Gilder especially has a grittier modern edge....this is pretty 80s commercial.

Nothing wrong with Gilder, but I much prefer a pure 80's sound.

I got my Coup de Grace off eBay for not too much. If I recall correctly. Normally, I agree with you.

    • ...and it's loaded with great music. Plus - Back in 1982. Petra released their "More Power to Ya" album. 30 years later, Classic Petra got back together with Greg X Volz at the helm again for a series of concerts. Is it possible that Volz's voice was even better in 2012 than it was in 1982? We'll let you decide. And in 1989, Mike interviewed the lead singer and guitarist of a band that was a one-hit wonder - but at the time of the interview, their one hit was a pretty big deal. We'll hear a clip of the interview and the song. Plus, is it Daniel Band - or is someone else?   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THS1F06TH5E
    • this album is superb. that is all
