The Defiants (Paul Laine/Bruno Ravel/Rob Marcello) - s/t

DangerDanger continues to be Bruno and Rob's number 1 thing...

Really? Is that true? I wonder in what capacity this is? Purely in terms of touring, or is new material for D2 an option? Is Ted still part of the band?

Sure doesn't seem like a number one thing.

7 years since "Revolve". Maybe they mean the other "number 1".

That's probably the one.

If touring with greatest hits require no further rehearsal and can bang some big bucks, I don't see why they need to bother with new release which only sell couple hundreds disc or less and eventually net them money loss for production and marketing cost.

That's the real reason why veterans decide not to pursue new music unless through crowdfunding or major label :D

But what becomes of the passion for your craft? I cannot fathom being a musician and playing the same old shit all the time with no desire to create new music. Surely it just becomes as mundane as any of our shitty 9-5 jobs...

Really? It's not by any means the worst album cover I've seen. And I wouldn't even consider it all that bad.

Song titles look great....album cover looks ludicrous.

Yes, song titles look really good.

Yup. Hoping "Love & Bullets" and "Waiting on a Heartbreak" are as good as their titles would suggest.

From that image it looks like Vince Neil is part of the band.

Although I loved Darkhorse, I hope the country image is the only thing country about the release.

I cant see this being country??

Not with Ravel and Marcello. They know better than that. Especially Ravel.

Never say never - Bon Jovi, Steven Tyler, Tom Keifer, Paul Laine, and a bunch of others did that :D

Pressrelease from Frontiers Records:

The Defiants is a new band put together by Paul Laine, Bruno Ravel and Rob Marcello. Three fabulous musicians, all with ties to the great hard rock band Danger Danger.

Best known for being Danger Danger's frontman for a 12 year stint from 1992-2004, which included 4 studio albums, Paul Laine is now coming back to work with his former bandmates Bruno Ravel and Rob Marcello, who are the other two pillars of THE DEFIANTS.

The guys got back together under suggestion of Frontiers' President, Serafino Perugino, who really wanted to offer the fans a chance to hear some new music from these guys. The resulting album is an extremely exciting affair which is going to please not only D2 fans, but also all the ones who are into the classic sound from the glory days of rock in the '80s and '90s.

Paul Laine says “From the moment Bruno and I started writing together,we knew we had something special. It’s been my experience that when the writing process is effortless, you’ve trapped lightning in a bottle…within the first 2 1/2 months, we had close to 40 ideas up on the board. I think it surprised both of us how intuitive we were of each others ideas. I’m very proud of this record, and it feels good to let loose on an album of complete stadium rockers. Rob Marcello, I consider to be one of the biggest talents in the world of modern guitar players. I love how much he shines on this record, and from track to track, I couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say musically. On a personal note, it feels good to hit another musical and writing milestone with this album. It was very hard to choose the material for this record, and its exciting to know that there are still bullets left in the chamber that nobody has heard yet...”

Bruno Ravel adds “I’m so stoked for you all to hear this record! It was so much fun to create, and that feeling will be very evident once you give it a listen. Paul and Rob poured every bit of themselves into these tracks, and their performances were just ridiculous! Add that to the aggressive killer drum pounding that only my good buddy, Van Romaine could deliver, and you have what equals a bonafide rock ’n’ roll roller coaster! Strap yourselves in folks! And get ready for the ride!“

THE DEFIANTS is a glorious return to the “in your face” melodic hard rock that won millions of fans back in the '80s and '90s and is currently enjoying a well deserved revival in the 21st century.

THE DEFIANTS are set to appear live at the Frontiers Rock Festival in Trezzo (Milano), Italy on April 24, 2016, where the band will perform classic tracks from Paul Laine's solo career, some Danger Danger hits (of course) and songs off The Defiants debut!

Wholly shut! Just give us a song already! Why are they being so stingy with samples?

Because its the new Frontiers policy?

Right.

But they can still post a track on their Facetube.

I bet this is going to be one awesome disc.

I don't bet shit anymore. On anyone. But I'm really hoping it is.

By the way, how exactly is the cover a country image.

It looks more like a pathetic version of the Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Probably the worst album cover since Coup De Grace

Yeah, seriously, though, where's a sample of how this thing sounds?

    • Already have a conversation goings ons here.
    • After 30 + years, it's finally here.......I have just finished listening to the new CD from Metallic Blue Records by the Reno, Nevada band RAWKON.  Back in 2004, I received a 6 track demo cassette recorded by RAWKON in 1987 from a  fellow collector in Nevada.  He was extremely excited on finding this tape and wanted to share it with me.   On the first play, it immediately reminded me of another  awesome Nevada band, "ROCK BOULEVARD".   As it turns out, RAWKON consisted of one member of ROCK BOULEVARD and this demo cassette turned out to be extremely rare and sought after.   Fast forward 16 years later to today,  those 6 tracks, along with others recorded at various times of the band's life,  are right here on a silver pressed CD.  There are a total of 13 tracks here with a very nice production and impressive liner notes.   One quick note.....the first 3 tracks have a production that is certainly that of a demo and of lesser quality than the remaining 10 tracks which are excellent, so don't become immediately disappointed .   These first 3 songs are from the band's first demo which were more heavy metal and before they got a keyboard player.   Even though they don’t have the same production as the rest of the album, it’s great to have these songs  to form a more complete discography.   Starting with track 4, it all changes and the production is top notch.  The notes are filled with thorough,  in depth info on the band, it's history and with numerous photos.   Certainly a high quality, collector minded release.   Musically, there's something here to satisfy a wide variety of musical tastes.   Grinding rockers with good axe work,  some mid tempo melodic songs with nice keys, melodic melodies and some extremely smooth AOR ballads that will delight the AOR-sters a great deal!  If you enjoy bands such as ROCK BOULEVARD, THEATRE, FLYWEIL or DOKKEN, you will surely enjoy all 13 tracks that RAWKON has to offer.  My hat's off to Metallic Blue Records for bringing us this rare glimpse of melodic rock history......
    • Back in 1990 we saw the release of the Nevada band ROCK BOULEVARD's "Self Titled" CD that became a collectors crown jewel.  Fast forward to 2020 ...... METALLIC BlUE RECORDS has released a new CD by the band titled "Stand And Fight"  which consists of tracks recorded in 1988-89 prior to their debut CD.   You read that right.....another full length ROCK BOULEVARD album with all new songs that has sat in a can all these years waiting to be rediscovered.   My hands were shaking and my heart fluttering with excitement when I received my advance copy.   When I pressed play on my CD player, I wasn't disappointed and the excitement was absolutely worthwhile......On this new 10 track release, vocals duties on seven tracks are handled by Jeff Kerr and the final three tracks feature Deland Voth's vocals.  There have been some lineup changes here and there......as a result, some fresh new sounds are part of the experience.  On several tracks, the listener is taken down some new melodic rock paths filled with keyboards and melodious layered songs that drive true melodic rock fans wild...  then swiftly taking you along another road filled with wild and crazy hair metal leaving you dizzy with delight.  The intitial style blends melodic hard rock that sounds more like US Westcoast melodic hard rock in the RATT school with a BON JOVI influence.  The remainder comes off in the vein of a more melodic SKID ROW (debut), with a touch of SILENT RAGE, LILLIAN AXE(early), JILLSON and LANCIA.   All of it with a top notch production, great backup vocals and excellent guitar work.  A huge thumbs up to Metallic Blue Records for making this one available after all these many years.   This is a "huge" release.  Along with the newly discovered material,  I was extremely impressed with the extensive liner notes, band history and photos compiled with this CD.  The liner notes alone separate an impressive release from an otherwise ordinary one.   Oh, and I should add, like all Metallic Blue Label releases, this is silver pressed and not a CD-R as is the case with many independant labels these days.    Although recorded prior to the debut, this is a worthy essential to add to your collection.   I should not fail to mention that the highly collectable self titled ROCK BOULEVARD, now titled "I Got What You Want, is also now available from Metallic Blue Records with 2 bonus tracks.   Another quality release that is silver pressed and contains an excellent 12 page booklet filled with band history and photos.   Don't wait till it's too late, get both of these great releases while they are available.   Surely they will become collectors items in the future.
    • These guys are performing via live stream this Friday. It's FREE.99, but you still need to reserve a "ticket." Hopefully that link works.   https://www.bandsintown.com/f/74655?came_from=206
    • From Frontiers: Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to introduce Kreek, the new band fronted by ex-Bigfoot frontman Antony Ellis. This new rock ‘n roll machine from Ellis sees him keeping his foot firmly planted in the fertile U.K. hard rock scene from which he emerged. Kreek's self-titled debut album is due out February 12, 2021. Kreek was first formed in the summer of 2019 after Ellis’ had parted ways with Bigfoot, who would eventually disband. Impressed with Ellis’ vocal ability from their time working with his previous band, Frontiers reached to Ellis about continuing to work together. Ellis had already been thinking about putting something new together and was keen to create a great new hard rock band. He soon found a group of musicians in Nick Clarke (guitar), Lee Andrews (bass), and Seb Sweet (drums) who were ready to join him and thus Kreek was born. Produced by Dan Rossall (Passion, Revolution Saints), Kreek’s self-titled debut is now ready to be unleashed! Line-up: Antony Ellis - Vocals Nick Clarke - Guitar Seb Sweet - Drums Lee Andrews – Bass   Tracklist: 1. At The Bottom Of Hell 2. Missiles 3. Meet Your Maker 4. Million Dollar Man 5. One Voice 6. Man On My Shoulder 7. Stand Together 8. Down 'N Dirty 9. Get Up 10. You’re On Your Own   www.facebook.com/KreekUK

    • other then hodge twins, here are a few of the YT channels I do most of my time on. So I'm not easily won over, generally most of the YouTubers who do killer work, dont go the extra mile and invest in someone to do their VO(like me) and a great production is brought down in flames by a pussy wimpy or just irritating VO, I'm not talking about Chills, Nexpo is a channel I stumbled onto, the guy is A+, and he has a soothing unannoying voice. Spooky Rice is a brotha who revies some disturbing movies, the best kind, if you dont care he talks black, and you like fucked up movies, he really searches deep for graphic and horrifying movies.
