Only 2 keepers for me in that list Gibb-Bob, either a bad year or we disagree even more than usual!

I'm going with it being a bad year ... the alternative is that you're even more wrong than you normally are ;)

Haha. Yeah, sorry mate. From a great year, it's a pretty awful list. Try Masquerade - s/t if nothing else. Or basically any other melodic hard rock discs released in 1992 apart from those. Warrant? White Lion? Anyone... ;)

I'm curious, James, out of the four actual keepers on that list (Bon Jovi, Bangalore Choir, Def Leppard & Firehouse) which are the two you have selected?

bad year my arse.......

No year is bad when you have awesome releases from Giant, Unruly Child, Hardline, Roxus and Warrant to name just 5 bona fide classics of our genre.

One man's meat, an' all that ...

For the sake of my sanity, I went back through the HH archives to see if I'd missed anything - Kiss Of the Gypsy ('S/T') and The Outfield ('Rockeye') are obvious omissions (I blame the fact that I had to sell the CDs in question years ago) ... the other album that jumped out at me was Jerusalem Slim's one and only album (then I remembered that I only ever liked 'The Scum Lives On' from that one) ...

As for Warrant - sorry, Geoff, but I never really liked 'Dog Eat Dog' ...

And for good reason.

The only two that I like from Gibbo's list are: Firehouse - Hold Your Fire and Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction. Both great albums. The Firehouse album is by far my favourite by them, nothing else gets close for me.

The others people have mentioned that I think are great albums are:

Hardline - Double Eclipse (absolute, bona fide, 100% classic!)

Giant - Time To Burn (their best album imo)

House Of Lords - Demons Down (second favourite HoL release after the debut)

Unruly Child - Unruly Child

I also like Warrant - Dog Eat Dog, easily their best album for me, although not quite up to the level of those listed above.

Some great music, but far fewer brilliant albums that the preceding couple of years, so a weaker year overall for me.

I bought 'Last Of The Runaways', based on a review ... and only a couple of songs really stood out for me - that's my excuse for not playing 'Time To Burn' very much ...

Hardline never appealed simply because I'm not a huge fan of Journey (I realise, of course, that such a statement is likely to get me tarred, feathered and dragged through the streets but, hey, that's how it was/is) ...

I'll give Hardline another go - simply because EVERYONE raves about it :)

I bought 'Last Of The Runaways' after hearing "I'll See You (In My Dreams)" on the lovely Kristina's Headbangers Ball. There are a few quite good songs on it, but nothing stood out and I found it pretty average. I bought 'Time To Burn' based on a couple of reviews and it rocks. Especially "Chained", which is a chooooooooooooon and "Lost In Paradise", which is one of the best soppy rock ballads ever.

'Double Eclipse' is feckin' awesome mate. Nothing like Journey at all and five or six killer songs.

Yeah, I heard the Hardline CD before I even knew who Journey were, seriously, and it's an entirely different beast to what Journey is. Nothing like them. Great disc.

Really? You think there's a Journey album as good as the Hardline one? The Hardline disc didn't rate amazingly for me, but it did rate very well, and I definitely prefer it to any Journey CD by a long shot. Just as I prefer both Bad English discs by a long way to anything Journey ever did.

Even as a fan of Journey, can you honestly say they have anything out there in the marketplace that resembles a good, consistent and complete album?

This.

(Except the Bad English bit. Bleurgh.)

NB: "Escape" is close, but does have filler.

Err yes. We of course we will never agree on this but for me Evolution, Infinity and Escape are near perfect albums.

Timeless classics.

Frontiers even with a slightly weaker second half is just as good....lets face it the first half is amazing.

@ Geoff

In fact every AOR album ever recorded since 1981 has been measured against Escape.

Its a classic....even if u dont like it.

I prob listened to it every week of my life for at least 5 years after it was released....what album can u say that of these days.

Its like part of my psyche...you prob wouldnt understand how it was in the early 80s but you literally lived and died some albums.

That would just never happen now - too many bog average releases saturating the market.

My Top 21 best of 1992 (in alphabetical order)

The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion

Bon Jovi - Keep The Faith

Dream Theater - Images And Words

Fair Warning - Fair Warning

Faith No More - Angel Dust

Gotthard - Gotthard

Great White - Psycho City

King's X - King's X

Kiss - Revenge

Little Caesar - Influence

Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction

The Mission - Masque

Axel Rudi Pell - Eternal Prisoner

Slaughter - The Wild Life

Sleeze Beez - Powertool

Izzy Stradlin - Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds

Sven Gali - Sven Gali

W.A.S.P. - The Crimson Idol

War Babies - War Babies

Wildside - Under The Influence

Highlights this year include W.A.S.P. with "The Crimson Idol", which along with Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime" are my only two 10/10 rated albums. Also Dream Theater surprised me with new singer James LaBrie, as I loved their debut and was wondering how they would follow-up that intense masterpiece. Hindsight, eh!

1992 also saw great second albums from The Black Crowes and Thunder, which I preferred from their debut albums as they stretched out with more mature songwriting.

I'm quite surprised to see TNT - Realized Fantasies rated at 75% this morning, because after a while it sits in my collection, I assume it should be at least 80 or 81%, 'Lionheart' and 'Rain' saves the day but the rest well I can live without although most of them are 7/10 quality. Geoff, how's your rating with this one ?

I rated it almost the same; 76%. No real surprise to me as the first half of the album is excellent, but the second half is mostly really quite bad.
