Who would have thought! I never thought of you, bro, as a maiden junkie! Btw, many moons ago a close buddy of mine gave me his record collection. Here's my latest tray for the rare occasion of non alcoholic beverage:

THE YEAR OF 1990

FIREHOUSE s/t Melodic Rock Epic 89.6%

I've still only rated 21 albums from 1990 - this could be a loooong process

But one I did rate and deliberated over for quite a while this this album - this was as kind as I could get -

1. Rock On The Radio - 6.5 - typical clichéd tune, solid with a decent solo but lyrically v weak

2. All She Wrote - 9.75 - excellent melodic rocker (probably the best tune they've ever written)

3. Shake & Tumble - 8.5 - very cool rocker - love the guitars/solo

4. Don't Tread Me Bad - 9 - breezy melodic number with nice chorus hook

5. Oughta Be a Law - 7.75 - musically solid, chorus hook is pretty basic

6. Lovers Lane - 7.75 - more of the same, solid

7. Home is where the Heart is - 8.75 - v nice melodic number - cool solo

8. Don't Walk Away - 7.5 - decent mediun paced number

9. instr

10. Overnight Sensation - 9 - excellent full on rocker

11. Love of a Lifetime - 7 - hideously sugary ballad - its well played but a job to sit through

12. Helpless - 8.25 - another solid rocker to end

Overall : 81.5%

In summary - a solid album, but slightly overrated (like they are live ;))

8 - Don't Walk Away - 8

I lived to see this: All she wrote rated less than 100.

1. Rock on the Radio the distant cousin to Manowar's Blow Your Speakers, only he missed his ice-cream/nice tune to get champagne in the right temperature 82
2. All She Wrote 100
3. Shake and Tumble 70
4. Don't Treat Me Bad 98
5. Oughta Be a Law 60
6. Lover's Lane 60
7. Home is Where the Heart Is 60
8. Don't Walk Away limo to the nearby strip club 85
9. Seasons of Change

I guess thats aimed at me.

The reason is simple - if he had a better voice it would be 100 - never warmed to his vocal at all.

I 've already rated 78 from the 250-300 possible releases. Of course all these ratings, Firehouse included, need some kind of triangulation. Evidently, a great year!

But I decided to follow another pattern, in order to stay focused. This year I'm rating only 1976 (if there was some music out there  )/1986/1996/2006/2016 releases.

1986 is also shaping great, already 57 releases in.

Hmmm, heavy comment, Glen. I like his voice too, quite a lot. Could be sickly sweet if abused, but I thought he sounded great on the rockers.

Anyway, Kouros, I can't believe I lived to see the day where someone rated 'Home is where the heart is' a 6/10. Great tune.

The Storm better than Pretty Maids' best album? Pretty Maids' best album 3% better than Wilson Phillips? Only a few % higher than Vice and the like? Pretty harsh assessment. In my humble opinion, the Pretty Maids album is a fair crack better than anything else on that list... at least probably 10% clear, imo.

Yep would be 90%+ for me

Actually no, after some spins, songs like 'Savage Heart', 'Jump The Gun', 'Hang Tough', and 'Dream On' are 7.5 material, and the rest are bouncing between 8 to 8.5. Three stand-out tracks for me are 'Lethal Heroes', 'Rock The House' and 'Partners in Crime'.

I guess the 90% is clearly overrating it mate. In my opinion, PRETTY MAIDS is quite consistent in terms of making good songs, but not many are really memorable and deserved the 9.

'Savage heart' as one of the weaker songs? Really? And you like those songs better than 'Attention,' and 'Rock the house,' which are the genuine weaker songs, imo... with 'Dream On?'

I rate the album 86% and think it deserves every bit of it. Like I said, I just think it's far better than the other albums you listed. I rated both The Storm and Vice albums 75% and then Raw Silk a touch higher at 77%. Like I said, I just think the Pretty Maids album is a class above the others. Songs like 'Lethal heroes,' 'Don't settle for less,' 'Savage heart,' 'Young blood,' 'Headlines,' 'Partners in crime' and 'Over and out' all get over 9/10 for me... most of them 9.5, so I definitely disagree with you, strongly, that they did not make memorable songs worth a 9/10. They made dozens of them throughout their career, including a big bunch here.

Anyway, to each their own. Just surprised you really think that Storm album is better, and that Wilson Phillips is so close. I'll admit I've never heard the full Wilson Phillips album, but it seems a bit wild that they're going to be anywhere near the same ballpark as Pretty Maids.

I'm predicting a 85 + for Raw Silk here. Of course, I have to moderate the effect of extraneous variables such as friendships and memories from gigs and rehearsals...

Nice little disc, that one. Pretty strong accent and a couple of weaker songs to finish up the CD... but it's a worthwhile disc for sure.

Well regarding PRETTY MAIDS, Geoff's 86% with my (almost) 82% to be honest, is not very far off. I just disagree that anyone will rated it over 90%, some songs of course will be rated higher depends on our own taste, but in the end, we agree it's still a great album :)

THE STORM - Sweet Surrender's first three and last three are magical, love those 6 tracks, in the middle, there's one filler, 'Keep This Love Alive', and the other are okay, not bad, overall, I think it deserved the 82%. WILSON PHILLIPS will be much appreciated if one also like/love pop music and there are 2-3 fillers there hence the 78% score but yeah I won't mind keeping that CD, at least there are 5-6 goodies inside :D

and RAW SILK, there are few bunch of great moments such as 'Second Advert', 'Street Girl', 'Just Like A Dream', and maybe 'Journey of No Return', but the rest I guess just about 7 to 7.5, and 'Heroes Don't Cry' maybe the worst filler. Overall 76% is well justified

Yeah, mate, I'm not questioning any scores anywhere... just the fact that I think it's a far better album (and they're a far better band) than those other guys you mentioned. ;)

Cool list again. Same as the other one, though, for me, in that every great album is followed by one I completely dislike.
