Axelinger
As much as I can't stand how Joel Hoekstra carries on like he's the band's official spokesman after having been with them for such a short time, I have to admit the band sounds as good as they ever have. It still pisses me that MCA tried to turn them into a ballad band back in the day, which robbed the fans of prospective magic during their split. Still one of my favorite bands to this day. Jez
3 spins in and this is a very very good, consistent album, especially the first half of the disc with 'High Road' 'Knock, Knock, Never Stop'' and 'Don't Live Here Anymore' all being top notch tracks. Gillis is on fire on here to. Not gonna compare it to the last one as of yet, but it ain't gonna be far off. Check it out pronto
Nightrain
2 spins in and I think it's indeed a great album and it's equal to the last album I guess. The problem is judging by the last 4 albums, I guess NIGHT RANGER was unable to surpass the first 4 albums, so looks like they're gonna be stuck in the 80% range for me, although that's pretty normal and also happened to most old bands. Great album but personally I don't see this in the top 10 list by the end of year
gener8tr
I suppose the older I get the more I miss what was... I received the Night Ranger CD yesterday from NEH Records (Mike's a great dude) and gave it a whirl. First few tracks are strong and reminiscent of the old days... then it just goes a bit flat for me. I dunno... it just sounds way too digital for my tastes, too. I really miss the analog days. It was a different and much more pleasing sound. Digital is just so harsh, bloviated and loud. Let me turn-up the volume if I so desire... no need to push every single level into the red for me. Music becomes nothing more than noise at that point. Me and my Sansui home stereo system with JBL speakers are no longer who recording engineers are trying to please... they're after the iPod crowd. Unfortunate.
Glen
reasonably strong throughout with a couple of classic sounding tracks What do you expect after god knows how many years
