Crashdiet - The Savage Playground

Recommended Posts

Finally got this disc to sound good - set up my old demon amp with arcam cd and big Senn cans.

Hearing the detail now - sounds pretty damned good actually.

The beginning of Excited sounds great!! & Snakes.

This disc is still firmly in my top 10.

I've bought 3 discs so far this year, so it's in my top 10 as well :)

Ha ha yeah I haven't bought that many but I've heard loads on Spotify.

I'm not even sure if I've bought 10 to be honest?? 7 or 8 maybe.

By the way that should read Denon above lol. Lots of typos today!

They have a collection of demos available for download in their shop. It includes 9 demos of songs which didn't make it onto Generation Wild and The Savage Playground plus the demo version of 'Change the World'. There are some great tracks on offer, so I'd recommend it to every Crashdiet fan on here, although it is quite pricey.

Wait, judging from the sound quality, I thought "The Savage Playground" WAS a collection of demos...

Seriously, I was all over this. Ran to their site and prepared to get some "new" Crashdiet tunes. Then I saw the price. I"ll be damned if I'm spending $30 for a download of some demos.

Yeah, I was lucky, that I had a 25% off coupon, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought it neither.

Irony aside, I actually think some of these demos sound better than 'The Savage Playground', especially the demo for 'Change the World'

Yeah, I've got older demos from Crashdiet and there's no doubt that plenty of them sound a lot better than 'Savage Playground.' I have no doubt any demo from the 'Generation Wild' sessions would sound far superior too.

I gotta admit, I've barely played this at all since the start of the year, and I don't miss it at all. Never thought I'd say or think that about Crashdiet, but when you release something that sounds like 'Savage Playground' you have to expect a backlash of sorts. Disgraceful sound quality.

Revisiting this disc. Better than I remembered with still atrocious production.

That was my impression when I revisited it a few years ago. Once the dust had settled I realised the songs were, for the most part, fairly strong. The production was still shit, though.

    • That is great news, one of the most consistent bands over the years
    • Well said, they were one of my favorite bands for the better part of a decade starting with High 'n Dry but unfortunately outside of some tracks on Euphoria and a couple on the self-titled album they've done very little that has interested me over the last 25 years.  Without Mutt pushing them and collaborating on the songwriting they seem to have been adrift without any clear direction
    • You hit the nail on the head for me.  The Yeah album was irritating as heck...Covers of a bunch of songs that I never liked to begin with when they should be doing new music.   Def Leppard has been absolutely terrible at releasing new music...What's there, 2 new albums in the last 15 years or something?  And 2 albums that were average at best with nowhere near the attention to detail or even focus they used to have.  They're always been my favorite band but they need a producer in the worst way if you ask me.  I mean, just put out a melodic rock album and stop screwing around with 70's influences and copycat Queen songs.  They irritate me that they've seemed to run away from the style of music that made them successful. Honestly...If they would just put out a melodic rock album in the vein of what Midnite City is doing, people would eat it up and say how awesome it is.  Instead they continue doing these hodgepodge albums with a few good songs and a bunch of bad experiments and/or covers.....with Greatest Hits albums or live released every other year. Sorry for the rant but they have been a frustrating band that was capable of much more the past 10-15 years IMO.
    • I have that 1987 album lined up for Thursday at work... what's the next one like? The one from 1989?
    • I'm very fond of that. Love it. Does this dude play the guitar as well as sing? I love that guitar sound he has in his tunes. Great melodic rock.
    • Climie Fisher was one of those 80's band I loved back then. Great band. Still dig it.
    • Really good album. Definite return to form here. This was an excellent band, but they kind of lost their way with the whole female vocal era, with some odd choices. It just wasn't for me, but now that the female vocals are gone, it's just down to proper melodic rock business. Good production and a great ballsy sound. Love the music on here... only slight "thing" is that a few choruses just kind of blend into the verses and you're halfway through before you're all like, "oh, this is actually the chorus." But that's not quite as bad as it sounds. The verses are very strong with nice backing vocal melodies popping up anywhere any time, so it's just a good flow of goodness.  Real nice album.
