Jeff Loomis - Plains of Oblivion

It didn’t bode well for me with this one; I’m not usually a fan of guitar virtuoso albums and while I loved Santuary, I was never a fan of Nevermore. There are 3 or 4 Nevermore songs I like, but generally I find that their music is over-complicated, it sounds like they are trying to be too clever and isn’t very easy to listen to. However, there were 3 tunes on the first Loomis solo album I thought were really good, so I thought I should at least check this one out. I’ve listened to most of the tracks and although there’s a lot of 'guitar widdling', overall it sounds fantastic. Some actual songs this time as well, with a couple of guest vocalists. Could be one of the best metal albums of this year for me.

Trust me, it rocks!
