Osukaru - 'Salvation'

Here's another CD which I think is well worthy of it's own thread. Having only heard the MP3's I finally just read some info on these guys and am stunned to find out this is actually a new, current band.

My guess as I heard this was that it was a shelved project from some Japanese guitarist with an American vocalist, from about 1992 or so. Wrong I was. Looks like these guys are a current Scandinavian band, which is excellent news... because hopefully they'll stick around and offer more music!

But never again will you hear a CD that so authentically sounds like it is from that 1989-1992 era. It truly does, and I bet it'll fool you too.

Anyway, this disc is so good to me I feel it's a possible outside chance of sneaking into my top 10 list this year - maybe... yeah, I like it that much.

Check the band out here:

If anyone has a cheaper link I'll hug you as I really want to buy this asap but just made a purchase from Musicbuymail and missed this.

This song is cliche, and hardly original... very sappy too... but is not far off being the best song I have heard this year. Perfection to me:

Wowser, and check this out too. This must be from one of their EPs with a previous singer.Awkward vocalist, but awesome song, sexy bass player and stunning blonde:

I've got both the albums and the EP. and what definitely let the the first album and EP down especially was the below par vocalist. The songs were good enough though to make me look into the new album. The new vocalist is a big improvement, although still not that great if i'm honest, although once again, the songs are pretty strong for the most part, making it worth investing in. All in all a good band, although not an earthshattering one.

I got all my Osukaru stuff direct from their management company last year, as at the time, as I couldn't find the 1st album and EP. anywhere else. They sent the the new one as soon as it was released too, as well as a few other goodies,, which was a bonus.

I think this one is a good album, I rated it 75%, but it might be worth around 80%, because there are probably 2-3 fillers here although not horrible as I recall. Weaker vocalist as pointed out by Jez could be one patchy point, but I think it's still acceptable and this album is well worth the money. 'City Lights' is beautiful, the ballad 'Till The End of Time' is also pretty neat, but 'Change of Heart' might be the winner, the bold sax touch is stunning!

Yeah, I wanted to get them from that management company but the site seems to be down at the moment. :( I didn't know there was a full debut. Two albums and an EP, hey? I must get them all.

I don't know, guys, I really like the current vocalist. I didn't even really recognize him as European at first. I do now, but I think he's got a good voice and is definitely a huge improvement from the guy in the above clip.

    • My Japan copy showed up today. I was critical of the Part I album as that one just did very little for me.  Basically, I just didn't think the songs were all that catchy and/or memorable.  I played that album a handful of times trying to get into it and gave up rather quickly which was disappointing as I loved Wired.  Maybe I just had too high of expectations or something.  I know many liked that album but for me at least, that Megalomanium I album would be ranked toward the bottom of their discography. Well, after hearing this new one, I'm feeling the opposite....Here I feel like they nailed it and I'm digging this one after the first listen.  I basically couldn't wait to start it over and listen again. The first 5 songs just come out guns a blazing with catchy, hook filled songs.  Yeah, we've heard 4 of those songs as singles but I almost purposely haven't listened to those songs much so they'd still sound fresh when the album dropped.  Then the one song we hadn't heard, All I Want, is just another upbeat, catchy tune. The 2nd half though is where things probably get more interesting.  Songs like Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye are the kinds of varied balladish/mid-tempo type songs I've been wanting Eclipse to mix things up with and there's 2 of those songs here, both very well done IMO.  Then there's a couple heavier tunes like Divide & Conquer and One In A Million that sound like stuff that could've been on Bleed & Scream.  And then a couple other melodic rockers with Until the War is Over and Pieces. I also feel like this has some of the better lyrics that Eclipse has had in awhile.  I think a lot of their material recently has been just been sort of lighter subject matter, 3 minute "simplistic" romps.  I felt Part I had a lot of that which kind of contributed to it being less interesting.  Here though, it seems like some of these songs get a bit deeper and can feel more emotion in songs like Still My Hero, Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye for example.   Anyways, where Part I is among my least favorite Eclipse albums, I'd say my early impression of Part II is that it'll be among my favorite Eclipse albums.
    • New song 'Unbreakable'.
    • Solid hard rock album. Nothing really stood out to me, but it’s solid.
    • New album 'Mysteria' out December 13th through Metalapolis Records. Tracks: Sex In Harmony Angelina (Talk To Me) Bad Dream That Night Only You Arms Around I Don’t Want To Fall In Love Mysteria Eighteen In Love If I Had You
    • Yeah I get the same BS. So I just downloaded all 3 eps....
    • Just kidding by the way!!
    • Great riff and bridge. Hoping for some faster paced songs. 12 songs in total so think there will be good variety. 👍
