DE LA CRUZ

Yup I cranked this up a couple times this weekend and am really enjoying it. It was a bit of a grower similar to the most recent Crazy Lixx album, but now when the songs come on they really get me fired up.

Given this one plenty of spins now and for me, it isn't as good as I'd hoped. I had an open mind about the choruses, but having given them plenty of chances, I still think they let this album down badly. I like the vocals, the verses, the solos, etc, but the choruses are often lacking in imagination and memorability. The weakest tracks are 'Girls Go Wild', which has one of the most tedious, banal choruses I've heard for some time and the ballad, 'Shine', which is dreadful - powder-puff soft and without any real tune at all.

It's not all bad, there are quite a few reasonable songs on the album - tracks 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11 are all pleasant enough, although probably not good enough for me to ever feel the need to play again. Some praise is due, though: the title track and 'Dreaming' are better and will get played now and then, while 'Invincible' has a great chorus and a brilliant guitar solo and is my favourite rock song of 2013 so far.

Overall, a little disappointing, probably 6.5/10, but worth hearing for 'Invincible' alone.

Glad to hear it, just doesn't do the same for me. Great sound, but the songs don't really excite me. Apart from 'Invincible'!

You've named 2 of my favourites there, that's about as close to agreement as we get!

I can't recall what I said about this above and am too lazy to dig it up, but I keep coming back to this one. One of the best, most playable CDs of the year so far for sure. I got over the repetitive thing pretty quick (it's only half the songs anyway) and now just love it all from start to end.

One thing that stands out playing this back to back with other albums in the genre, is this thing has a killer production job. Really great stuff. But I can't really fault this and it's an easy spin from start to end - no finger even lingers over the skip button. 'Legions of love' and 'Dreaming' are my two faves, but the whole this is great. Pure 80's hard rock. And for Glen's sake, great solos too.

I think "Set The Night" has become probably my favorite track on here, but the whole thing is very, very good.

I thought the EP was pretty decent when I heard it back in 2011, although not amazing. Lately I've been giving some of the tracks another listen and my interest has been renewed. It's certainly a band with a lot of potential. Skimming through this thread I see a lot of different opinions about the full-length, but I'm gonna take a chance and order it anyway. Maybe I'll regret it but what the heck.
More opinions on this?

I gave this multiple spins and still nothing has stuck in my head, so I just cant understand why with all that talent, they came up with something that just wasnt that memorable for me.

Shame.

Great CD in my opinion. It could be missing that one song that is so good it makes the other songs seem more like great compliments to the overall CD.

My favorites:

Legions of Love

Girls Go Wild

Set The Night

Invincible

Turn It Up

Wouldn't expect much else with that nickname, mate. :)

Sounds great though.

I live in Sweden and ordered it from the US, so hopefully should be here within 1-2 weeks. Oh the wait.

    • I posed him that exact question on his discord page as to what his future plans are.... He said he plans to relax for a bit, do his You Tube thing, keep writing new music and then will decide how to release that music.  He said as of now he's thinking he'll either do a solo thing or form his own band.  He didn't say this but I'd sort of envision a Daughtry type "band" where he kind of puts a band behind his name. So essentially, I think you're right on with his plans.  Ultimately, I think like you say, the control is a big part of it.  I think he wants to be able to operate on his own schedule to maintain his health and family obligations. It'll be interesting to see what sound the new material takes on.  It would seem logical to think it would be rock/melodic rock of some sort since that's really the type of music he's built his following with but he certainly has shown he can dabble anywhere from AOR to metal.
    • Glad I got to see them with Erik in front. All the best to him, definitely looking forward to his future outings when he is fully recovered. Would be cool to see him form his own band, where he could take control, and play around in different genres, from full on metal, to soothing AOR, the guy is so versatile.
    • Remedy - Crying Heart. One I've just seen thanks to the Iridium channel.  From the upcoming album. It's a Killer.
    • Let's not forget Benny Hill. What a Magnificent show that was.
    • Yeah... I dunno about that. It would be too cringe. Who knows? If I'm high enough, I might submit a video.
    • Yep great track and if you fancy being in the video for "The Feeling" nows your chance.
    • I'm proud to say that I had this single when I was a mere 8 years old. KISS were big down here then. Norman Gunston is Iconic for Aussies of my vintage.  The face ln the bottom left says it all. Hilarious.
    • All in all, this is a great story. Erik played a brilliant, well received, albeit short cameo with one of our favourite bands.  It was a win, win, win. A win for us, a win for Skid Row (the album certainly put them back on the map) and a win for Erik, adding this to his already impressive resume. The fact that it was so amicable with both parties is also great to see.
    • I really like this album - not every song on it but there are some surprisingly catchy melodies all over. Personally I think the singer adds great energy to the mix. It reminds me of the earlier Bai Bang ("closer to you")
