Victory - Don't Talk Science

This does kick some serious ass, probably be in my top 3-5 for the year.

Love Kills Love and No Return are instant favorites to go along with all the rest. The only one I am not so sure on yet is the cover of I'm So Excited...I need to give that more time but, wow, good stuff!

Yeah, gotta chime in with agreement here too. What a great surprise. This one is better than 'Instinct' (obviously) and definitely a contender to topple 'Voiceprint' too. It's a really great disc that fits in the Victory discography very nicely.

The new vocalist isn't as good as Garcia or Huhn, but he has a very good "Victory-style" to him and really fits in with the band. I love this CD, because good, simple hard rock CDs have been a dying breed lately. Been a long while since I heard a really good one, but this is one. Great riffage all over the place.

Okay, now that I have a hard on I guess I will find this to download tonight and go ahead and preorder as this is my favorite German band by far, and one of my all time faves! Thanks for all the info folks ;)

This is an asskicker for sure. There are a few filler songs but the singer sounds good in the tradition of Garcia and the music sounds like it's from that era of the early 90's.

I have it downloaded now and adding it to the Ipod today. I should be able to make it through beginning to end on the way and back from work. I'll give my thoughts tonight :)

As I thought, very chunky riffs and another excellent album. I need to listen to it more but I would not put it up there with any of the Garcia releases but I already like it better than the huhn releases. Just nice to get something from them. And I have to say Kudos to getting this singer. Awesome!!!!!

Just got this one and man it's awesome. Not as good as "Culture" or "Temples" but it's has to be in the top 4-5 Victory discs ever. "Love Kills Love", "Speak Up", "Restless", "Burn Down the City", "Blinded by Darkness", "No Return" and "Victim of Lies" are great tunes IMO.

Even cooler that it basically came out of nowhere with no hype or promotion at all.

Yeah, great disc and a certain crowd pleaser for long time fans of the band. I have a copy coming in the mail which I picked up for a very sensible price at Spun.com. :)

i spun this around three times, and on a contrary side, it's getting slightly weaker than my first impression but still very solid one. I found at least 2 average/fillers and couple other good tracks, the rest are great though

the first four tracks are definitely killer, probably will end up around 80%.

still can't find a reasonable copy for this one darn, better luck next time :christmas:

I found mine for something like $14 on Amazon and $3 shipping and that's the cheapest I've seen.

I have found two or three just okay songs but love all the rest.

Loving this disc... but one thing I noticed with it. On the back cover you will note than Herman Frank produces most the disc - 9 of the 13 songs. And he does a good job, no doubt. The disc sounds nice.

But do yourself a little experiment and listen to the 4 tracks Tommy Newton produced, back to back with the Herman Frank ones. Not a doubt in the world that I prefer Tommy Newton's production and when listening back to back, Herman Frank's tracks sound a little "muddy" by comparison. Kind of reminds me of EMN's second album, where 'Slip and fall' and 'If I had my way' are produced separately and sound much better than the rest of the disc.

Anyway, tiny, tiny issue. And if it had all been produced by Herman Frank I'd never have even mentioned it - as I said, he does a great job. But I have ALWAYS rated Newton as a world class producer and personally, if it was my band, I'd leave the production duties to Tommy alone. Still great disc. Enjoy.

I've listened to the cd countless times and haven't noticed that yet but will listen for it on the next spin. I hadn't read the notes to even notice who had produced what.

Yeah, I didn't notice when I was playing the MP3's as I never really take any notice of stuff like that till I hear the real thing. But once I read stuff like that and make a point to listen... it's as obvious as an uncovered pair of lovely norks. :(

Is it just me or is this pretty average?

Starts out well with Restless & Speak up but by track 4 it goes on a run of averageness for about 6 tracks before the awesome 'Victim Of Lies' hits (by far the best song on the album for me).

Its all nice and rocking but the hooks just dont do it for me :-(

[also, Im So Excited is just wrong.]

Wrong! 'No Return' is far and away the best song on the album... a return to the glory days.

I could appreciate an impartial fan not being too into this, but as a long-time Victory fan I really think it's a great return. In the scheme of everything that's been released in 2011 I admit it probably won't rate overly high, but I still love it and think it's a great offering from a brilliant band.

    • Another Robert Mason post, but this time I really do feel a connection with it. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but my name is Dustin.  Everybody calls me Dusty, so when I saw the new Warrant album (Rockaholic) featured not only one of my favourite vocalists, but also included a track called Dusty's Revenge, I couldn't believe it. I then find out that it's a concept album about a "Rockaholic" called Dusty. For obvious reasons, I love this album. Here's a couple of tracks.
    • Harpsichord.    I thought of it and it was random, so there you go.
    • From their FB page: Alcatrazz wish to make the following announcement: Back in late 2020 the brilliant Doogie White came in to help us out with our then already booked live dates after the departure of the previous vocalist (those dates were ultimately postponed to late 2021 due to the Covid lockdowns). We all had a GREAT time...and thus, one thing led to another and before we knew it we had made two fantastic albums and toured considerably in a nearly 4 year period. Now our schedule is getting busier and busier, as is Doogie's with his very fine solo work... and with that, the inevitable clashing of dates in our respective diaries, and needless to say, the impossibility of him being able to be in two places at one time. We remain on very very good terms with Doogie and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the band, he is very welcome on our stage anytime, as are all past Alcatrazz alumni. Current Warlord vocalist and someone already known to many Alcatrazz fans (as co-producer and also contributing songwriter for Alcatrazz's past 3 albums) Giles Lavery will be stepping up for the 2024 live dates - and with that we will be reintroducing many songs from the Alcatrazz past, including some not played in many years. Giles's first show is 22nd of March in New Orleans, lets all make him feel welcome and please lets also give a massive thank you to our dear friend Doogie White for everything he gave to this band since 2020, he is a true pro and a great person! Doogie has a video message to the fans that we will share later today as well. Jimmy, Gary, Joe, Larry.
    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
    • I remember my early days on the internet joining a group on Yahoo (yeah thats how long ago it was) and the woman who created the group was trying to persaude me how great Creed was, so much so that she sent me the first two albums on CD. I had no idea what they sounded like. When I played them all I could think is that they sounded like Pearl Jam, and I fucking hate Pearl Jam. I ended up trading them for something better. I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but I somehow shared my CD collection online and she noticed straight away that the Creed CDs were not listed. She asked me why and I said I sold them as really did not like them, and got something I did like. She never spoke to me again after that
