Clarity (80s AOR from Australia)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Tim from our band (LORD) has just put together a solo project entitled 'Clarity' and to start things off, he's recorded a track call 'Lonely Nights' thats available for FREE DOWNLOAD below.

A bit of info on the project...

The CLARITY Project is the brainchild and solo project of Lord Tim, frontman of LORD[/b], previously of Dungeon and well-known audio producer and music video director.

WHY DO THIS? While LORD offers L.T. a massive degree of freedom when it comes to musical styles (LORD is renowned for its broad musical pallette), being a band situation means catering to the collective rather than the focus coming entirely from any one person. Aside from this, L.T. was interested in working with other singers and musicians beyond the scope of inviting a guest to appear on an album, and working with music that even goes beyond LORD's broad boundaries, such as 80s pop/rock, orchestral scores and specific concept pieces.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH. Writing a whole album of related material is hard work, even for a band like LORD that doesn't stick with the same narrow style all album. It takes months of writing, pre-production, recording, mixing, editing, etc. to make the songs not only stand up on their own but work together as a whole. It's a rewarding experience at the end, but a very long process. Clarity is different. As as rule there are no actual albums or EPs as such, just songs that feel right to do at the time as individual entities. Sometimes several similar songs will be recorded at once, sometimes it will be a once-off unrelated piece - whatever works, works. It's a more immediate process that exploits the creativity of the moment. The idea of a releasing a full album is still open to try but it's more the exception than the rule.

A DIFFERENT WORLD. The world of record labels and corporations is rapidly changing. The days of releasing an album through a label and expecting sales through retail stores is truly over, especially for independant artists. Albums are pirated and put onto Torrent sites within hours of their release (in some cases long before if a press copy is leaked). This takes money away from the labels, and in turn from the artist both as royalties and the marketing budget that a label is willing to spend to promote the artist. Any casual web-surfer knows where to go to find albums for free these days. With Clarity, the plan is to actually GIVE THE MUSIC AWAY FOR FREE, and suggesting that if people enjoy the music, donate whatever price they feel comfortable giving to keep this project afloat.

I had a listen......very impressive sounding band. I'm classified as a keyboard oriented melodic rock nut, so this one rang my chimes. I hope the fellas put their heads together and come up with a full length release soon, I'd be buyer!

One quickie.....so as not to create any confusion, there is a Finnish power metal band of the same name..."Clarity" who released an album in 2001 titled "Empty X Space". They also had a demo CD out in 1999 titled "The Demo".

Not bad... just to confirm, can you actually download it for use on an Ipod, or is it just there to be played on the net?

I must really suck because when I click on "Lonely Nights (MP3 version, 7428 KB)" it just plays in Quicktime. I don't even know what the FLAC thing is but my PC doesn't read it. :(

Do a right hand click and select 'save as' - it should save it to your computer as an .mp3 :)

Guys, another song has been recorded and put on the page for everyone - 'So Close (And Yet So Far)'

    • I posed him that exact question on his discord page as to what his future plans are.... He said he plans to relax for a bit, do his You Tube thing, keep writing new music and then will decide how to release that music.  He said as of now he's thinking he'll either do a solo thing or form his own band.  He didn't say this but I'd sort of envision a Daughtry type "band" where he kind of puts a band behind his name. So essentially, I think you're right on with his plans.  Ultimately, I think like you say, the control is a big part of it.  I think he wants to be able to operate on his own schedule to maintain his health and family obligations. It'll be interesting to see what sound the new material takes on.  It would seem logical to think it would be rock/melodic rock of some sort since that's really the type of music he's built his following with but he certainly has shown he can dabble anywhere from AOR to metal.
    • Glad I got to see them with Erik in front. All the best to him, definitely looking forward to his future outings when he is fully recovered. Would be cool to see him form his own band, where he could take control, and play around in different genres, from full on metal, to soothing AOR, the guy is so versatile.
    • Remedy - Crying Heart. One I've just seen thanks to the Iridium channel.  From the upcoming album. It's a Killer.
    • Let's not forget Benny Hill. What a Magnificent show that was.
    • Yeah... I dunno about that. It would be too cringe. Who knows? If I'm high enough, I might submit a video.
    • Yep great track and if you fancy being in the video for "The Feeling" nows your chance.
    • I'm proud to say that I had this single when I was a mere 8 years old. KISS were big down here then. Norman Gunston is Iconic for Aussies of my vintage.  The face ln the bottom left says it all. Hilarious.
    • All in all, this is a great story. Erik played a brilliant, well received, albeit short cameo with one of our favourite bands.  It was a win, win, win. A win for us, a win for Skid Row (the album certainly put them back on the map) and a win for Erik, adding this to his already impressive resume. The fact that it was so amicable with both parties is also great to see.
    • I really like this album - not every song on it but there are some surprisingly catchy melodies all over. Personally I think the singer adds great energy to the mix. It reminds me of the earlier Bai Bang ("closer to you")
