Duran Duran - All You Need Is Now (2010)

Now this is a great return to form for Duran Duran. Simply their best for years! Taken from their new album "All You Need Is Now" out this month.

Putting themselves back in the 80´s, this is essential Duran.

Am I the only fan here?

They have always been one of the greatest acts for me and this song proves it once again. Brilliant!

Especially from the 2:40 mark onwards, this is pure Duran Duran.

I really like the 'S/T' , 'Rio' and 'Seven And The Ragged Tiger' discs. After that, I lost touch until they did the excellent 'Ordinary World' and 'The Wedding Album' years later. Some of the latter day stuff has hinted that they may do another good album and this sounds like it may be it.

Duran Duran were never totally my "thang" but I have to admit that dammit, in the early 80s those guys were f*ckin inescapable on MTV and radio, so I couldn't help but find some of their songs catchy...

I hung out with a girl in high school who was totally over the moon for'em (like most girls were) ... I mean, she had a Duran Duran pillow case on her bed, her walls were covered with posters and everything. I still chat w/her on Facebook from time to time (even though we haven't seen each other in 20+ years) and occasionally she'll mention that she still goes to see'em when they come thru her area. She's a diehard. :D

I think I may still have a cassette single of "Ordinary World" around the house somewhere. Fantastic song.

Excellent group, their first two albums are classics, like the sound of this song.

I was probably the biggest Duran Duran fan on this website at one time....lol....so, yeah...there's still someone here **albeit infrequently** who loves Duran Duran, Stefan. I have not purchased the album yet because my iTunes has been incapacitated due to me needing a new PC.....but, I have heard clips and saw the youtube stuff. So, it truly sounds like it's going to be a good album! I'm lookin' forward to it because I hated Red Carpet Massacre!! Plus, the album is going to be released with an additional five tracks not yet released in iTunes....so, I'll get the hard copy when it comes out in a couple of weeks!!

Duran Duran holds a very special place in my heart...and they are 2nd only to KISS in my world.....

Who the hell is Will Weaton? If he's your neighbour or something, yeah, I guess he looks a little like him... in 20 years. ;)

I have to admit I have no relationship with Duran Duran at all... don't even know one of their songs. I think the only one I ever heard was a few covers of that 'Hungry like a wolf' song?

Either way, the above song does nothing for me so not sure I'll form a relationship with them any time soon.

That's right Geoff. They are waaaay outside your musical taste but you're telling me you've never heard a song by them? How old are you? 18?

19 on Sunday.

Don't worry, it surprises me too. I remember stuff like Bon Jovi, Gunners, 1927, Roxus, Poison, Heart, Starship etc. when I was growing up... which I guess is the same era as Duran Duran? But I recall nothing from them.

Nah Geoff, Duran was more early 80's.....the stuff you're referring to was probably more late 80's - early 90's.

The fact that you'd never heard John Parr's 'Man In Motion' would also make sense now that you've never heard Duran.

For some reason I got the impression you were an authority on all things 80's...

 How wrong you are, mate. Haha. Apart from the hard rock / glam / AOR music from the 80's I actually dislike most all that came from the 80's. No offence, of course. Things just got a lot sexier afterwards, for me. Hate 80's movies, hate 80's pop music... not even into much porn (GASP!) from the 80's. Just did not like the look of the 80's in general. Sorry guys. :( Most of all, though, I am certainly no expert on it all.

You are right, though, the music I remember from my childhood (throw in Icehouse, Belinda Carlisle & Diesel too) is all from about 1989 onwards. If Duran Duran were before that, yeah, way too young to remember that stuff. :) I was only born in 1979 so I was way to young to remember anything much from the 80's.

Got ya :)

So now when I read from you "I've always hated (insert random 80's band)" that translates to "I've hated (insert random 80's band) since I first heard them in (1989 - 2011)"

If I didn't know you were born in 1979, from your posts and knowledge I would assume you were about 40 years old :)

You can even take it one step, further, mate. I remember stuff from 1989, but I only actually really got into "our music" from about 1995 onwards - Bon Jovi's 'These Days' was one of the first CDs.

So "I've always hated Quireboys (for example)" means "I've hated Quireboys since around 1995, but probably later, when I heard them for the first time." ;)

Me + knowledge? Surely you jest? :)

Yeah, sorry mate. All unfamiliar titles to me. I've seen plenty of naughty, naughty, naughty girls on film, but not heard it, or the others.

And Star Trek, hey? I'll leave it at that. ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

I really like the new title track...still need to get the CD though. I was a casual fan in my school days (when DD ruled the world), but after marrying a certified, card-carrying DD fan, I came to appreciate them for the really great band that they are. I think Simon LeBon has one of the best, most distinctive voices ever...
