Not many of those qualify as Hard Rock... we'll be on to some of Graveworm's jolly renditions of pop classics soon...

My thoughts exactly. But I haven't contributed myself, so I was keeping my mouth shut.

...although I like metal covers of pop songs too. If it's a good pop tune and someone wants to add some nice heavy guitar to it, that's fine by me. :D

So I can't include anything that Atrocity may have done? 'The Sun Always Shines On TV', for example? :)

Skin had quite a few good pop covers on the bonus disc that came with the limited edition version of their debut CD:

Unbelievable (EMF)

Dog eat dog (Adam Ant)

Express yourself (Madonna)

Pump it up (Elvis Costello)

Hangin on the telephone (Blondie)

Should I stay or should I go (The Clash)

I would love to hear those! I have the "Unbelieveable" cover on their live Hasta la Vista album, and their Take Me Down To The River CD single has live covers of "Rock 'n' Roll" (Zeppelin), "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" (Van Halen), and "Rock Candy" (Montrose) which are all fantastic.

Also, I thought Thunder's version of "Gimme Some Lovin'" (Spencer Davis) was really well done. They nail it live.

Heres some killer Hard Rock, and HEAVY METAL pop covers! . . . .

Warmen - Black Cat (Janet Jackson)

Call it a guilty pleasure, but I really liked Janet's original "Black Cat." Probably the only song of hers I can stomach because it's got Nuno Bettencourt rocking the riff. ;)

I'd say go for it (as you already have ;)). If only the thread had been "Rock and Metal Covers of Pop Songs", as I love both. I'd love to hear a Death Metal version of 'Firestarter', that would be cool...

A few more that come to mind, courtesy of Mr. Russ Ballard:

- Uriah Heep's version of "On The Rebound" (from the Abominog album)

- Rainbow's cover of "Since You Been Gone" (from Down To Earth)

I'd include Ace Frehley's cover of "New York Groove" (originally done by Ballard's band Hello), but I'm not sure even Ace's version counts as "hard rock," since it's only got a couple power chords in the chorus to qualify it. ;)
