I really wanna hear that New Device CD. You dropped Hotspur 'cause it wasn't rock enough? Not sure about that one, mate. I put stuff like Forever the Sickest Kids, Boys Like Girls, Cute Is What We Aim For etc. in these lists all the time. If it's good, you should leave it there, mate. :) Definitely no less rock than a lot of the stuff we put in these lists. ;)

Must listen to Pound again. There was some great stuff on that one early on... dropped off a bit in the second half. This weekend saw a banquet of great new stuff too which I can't wait to hear. Most notably, I see Saosin have a new disc! Very excited about that one. I heard the first song and it looks to have taken off where the last one left off. :)

Yeah but the Hotspur is quirky and difficult to compare to the rest of the list, hence why ive dropped it.

The second half of Pound does drop a little bit, but those songs are growers on the second half and take a few spins to get into. 'Phantom Killer' and 'Evil Eye' are just great, 2 of my fav songs of 2009. There's a really good b-side single as well which i downloaded off itunes called 'I Hate You Too'....I slipped it in just after 'Back In A Coffin' on my ipod and it fits in just nice. Worth tracking down.

Cheers

Sorry, the NEW DEVICE is crap....

So all my fave discs have come out in the last couple of months, with none of them being in the AOR/MHR genre at all. Am still waiting on the SLAYER and W.E.T which both should be awesome, but current faves are:-

AUGUST BURNS RED - Constellations

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER - Deflorate

MEGADETH - Endgame

THE USED - Artwork

 @ New Device. Still interested to hear it, though. Spun that The Used disc yesterday too and that still has spaces to climb for me. I think... in fact, I will go on the record as saying it's the most consistent album I've heard this year, well, at least in modern rock.

A lot of albums with simply stunning songs on them, numbering 3-4 or so, but the rest falls short. The Used doesn't really have an outright stunner, but every single song (bar the average closer) is of very high quality.

Yeah completely agree mate. Am surprised how melodic songs like "Born To Quit" and "Watered Down" are - basically just pop/rock. The last track is a bit aimless but the rest is great...

Whatever mate........i love it and it certainly kills most other modern releases this year.

As I said its got more of a classic rock vibe........takes a few listens to really click, but now it kicks my arse each and every time I listen to it.

Yeah, I too was really surprised at how melodic the whole album was, especially after those early comments that the CD was going to be heavy, a jumble and all over the place. It's arguably their most melodic and commercial yet, which goes against a lot of the pre-release comments. :)

not hate at all.

it's a great album, but is just missing the 1-or-2 songs to rasie the roof off a stadium. Bai bnag has tracks like "Bad Boys" and "We Come Alive" (i think i'ts that one). Johnny Lima has "Gimme Some Rock". Laney just seems to lack on of those monster chorus type tracks.

Wow, how funny. I think the complete opposite. I like all the others we mentioned but apart from the title track on the Bai Bang CD and to a much smaller degree, 'Caught In The Middle' off the Lima CD... I just think all CDs are missing a real killer tune (I much prefer hardcore Superstar to both of those, despite a real stand-out track).

Laney, however. Take your motherfriggin' pick - 'Fire & Ice', 'I hate yer guts', 'Get u down' and 'Pissed and what u missed'. Four instant classics and any of those four blows the roof off my ballsack everytime I spin this disc.

Yeah, I know it's soft not being able to split the number one spot, but every time I lean towards on I prefer the other and I seriously cannot separate them at the moment. By year's end I'll have a clear winner but I am totally loving both those albums at the moment. Monty Are I is pure bliss, but I can't get the No Love Lost tunes out my head. In all honesty, I've been a bit harsh on this year but there is some killer material there.

You are a mad mad man still having Fallbrooke at no 2 (no 3 in essence).

& as good as D2 is, there's still nothing to touch the totally awesome Steel Panther.

PS anyone see on Nov 9th there's a new Wigwam cd due????! Some confusion over the release date as this could be the Jap version. Still great news!

Hope to get a first listen to the WET album this weekend too. High hopes for this disc!

Cheers

The best albums are easy for me....

Blindside Blues Band - Smokehouse Sessions

Blindside Blues Band - Keepers Of The Flame

Onesko Bogert Ceo - Big Electric Cream Jam

The only hope of any of these being knocked off their perch will be from the new Blindside Blues Band CD that will be out later this year and after hearing one of the tracks that is going to be on it....that could happen !!!!!!

I've now been able to hear a few tracks off the upcoming album "WORLD ON FIRE" - BLINDSIDE BLUES BAND and just going on from those few, this album will be a contender for album of the year....no doubt !!!!!

Lynyrd Skynyrd God & Guns will probably sit behind the above four mentioned

I guess I'm not feelin' the same love for W.E.T. that everyone else is. It's a very good album, but it's not blowing me away. There's nothing on it that goes "over the top" for me. It's too similar to all the other generic JSS projects he's done. I need to play it some more and see if it grows on me, but thus far it gets a resounding "ok" from me.

Mastedon, on the other hand, is kicking my ass six ways to Sunday.
