DAUGHTRY "No Surprise"

Recommended Posts

One thing which surprises me is the lack of love / mention of 'Everytime You Turn Around'....I really love that song. One of the albums best IMO.

Spinning it now. Mate, probably my least favourite song on the entire CD.

yeah another head scratcher....the sort of song id have thought youd love. ho hum. I like it...so there is some love it.

Chorus is decent at best, but the verses are just plain annoying and awful, imo. Yeah, I'm starting to skip both those last 2 songs too.

Mmm, I think that's a great chorus mate and to be honest one of the more hookier ones on the disc. Ho hum.

Tennessee is a skip but I really like the last track....got a great close solo to close the album proper.

Have you heard the bonus tracks yet?? At least 3 great tracks out of those...'One Last Chance', 'What Have We Become' (a rare and good solo - kicks arse) and 'Traffic Light...all hit the spot.

Cheers

What about the super annoying vocals in the verses of 'Everytime...'? Heard the disc again tonight and easily one of the worst songs, imo.

I've heard a few bonus tracks but struggling to get them all. I want to have them all before I put on a disc.

'Traffic light' is one of the highlights of these recordings. Great stuff!!! There's at least 3 others that should have replaced 4 on the CD to make an amazing 12 track CD.

A rocker to ballad ratio of 1 for 1 is a sin. I can handle a 2 for 1 ratio. 6 of the 12 songs on the disc are ballads, that's way too much and 5 of the last 7 tracks on the disc are ballads, a total momentum killer. As good as some of the tunes are, that for me kinda ruins it, especially the weak assed final 2 tracks.

My prediction, the ballad track September will be released as a single in mid August and will become a huge single during the month of....October, no wait September. A radio hit single if I ever heard one.

I quite liked some of the debut, so took a punt on this, purely because of all the inane ramblings on here (and other sites), plus it was less than a fiver brand new. ;)

There are strong enough tracks on here to pick it up for a decent price, plus his vocals are pretty good. But Dave is spot on - there's no momentum on here at all. How many ways can you cut a ballad? It's a decent listen though...

look guys, how many times do I need to spell this out - by hook or by crook get the bonus tracks....'Traffic Light', 'What Have We Become' and 'One Last Chance' are all superb and at least as good as any track featured on the proper album. Also they all rock nicely and balance the rest of the album. 'On The Inside' is very good too.

Ive whacked the disc on my ipod with all these extra tracks and changed the running order around (which sucked by the way!) and dropped a couple of ballads so it more suits my tastes and I have to say it is now an essential listen.

Here's my playlist -

You Dont Belong

Everytime You Turn Around

What I Meant To Say

No Surprise

Ghost Of Me

Supernatural

September

Traffic Light (BONUS)...........[utterly essential]

What Have We Become (BONUS)............[very good with a great solo]

Long Way (BONUS)................[good medium paced rocker]

On The Inside (BONUS)..............[very good medium paced rocker]

Life After You

One Last Chance (BONUS)...........[utterly essential]

I know some of the purists will sneer at this as theyve bought the sacred cd, but i downloaded the album from itunes and now ive changed it all around its 100% better than the original album...so go figure eh???!

cheers

Assume the bonus tracks are all for download only? I've already paid for the CD, why do I have to pay extra to get the best songs? I bet Daughtry's laughing out loud as he drives his gleaming new Ferrarri...

So I've lived with this disc for a while now and - putting aside the running order issues - I have to say that it rates about the same as the first album for me. Nicely played, well-written songs, excellent vocals, but somebody really needs to write this guy tunes with some real knockout choruses. There are about 3 or 4 really top class songs, largely through the middle of this disc, but nothing that totally blows me away. The bonus tracks might well be excellent, but even that won't change the overall perception that this is just a decent album and not an essential one. Plus this production sound is getting very samey, it's ultra slick with the vocals high in the mix (exactly the same as Bo Bice's first, David Cook's, etc etc).

Make sure you check out the bonus tracks.

'One Last Chance' is stunning and one of the best tracks on offer. 'What We Have Become' is also v nice.

These bonus tracks elevate the album from good to great for me.

Apparantly there were 5 bonus tracks for this albums, all released in different on-line stores. A few of these were co-written by Marxy and Ryan Tedder from One Republic. Can anyone tell me where you can get these bonus tracks from. Preferably don't want to pay for them as I've already purchased the album.

Other than that don't ask me what there doing they did a little video of them signing contract and it doesn't include John 5 so he's not really part of Motley he's a hired gun..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3iDklwv1PI&t=2s
    • Thanks I was wondering why he went with this cover ...lol  I wouldn't have but again thats me ...lol But I will be buying this CD. Peace Guys ...
    • Not much information on the video's page, other than it appears to be an AI creation. Once it gets into the verse and especially the chorus, it's actually not too bad IMO.
    • While I appreciate your interest in contributing to the site, most of the artists and albums you are submitting are either REALLLLLLY stretching the boundaries, or as in the case of this band, completely off the mark. No alternagrunge. No punk. No death metal/power metal (although those can be submitted to Brutal Metal). You can always start a thread asking about a particular artist before blindly submitting it for inclusion. Thanks! -Dan
