I'm talking about songs like Stargazer

You would be struggling to beat that one

Still I'm Sad is another Rainbow "Epic" and I'll think of a couple more and come back later on this one :christmas:

Especially the excellent live version from On Stage or Live in Europe.

Also "Gates of Babylon".

Wow, some great songs listed! For the record, I was specifically thinking of longer songs with non-conventional song structures. Especially those tunes that build up into a 'grand finale' of sorts. Child in Time is another favorite of mine, as well as Stairway, and I LOVE that Chris de Burgh song! GREAT example of what I'm looking for! That's a tune I might never have heard if I hadn't started this thread. If any of you have any more suggestions, keep em comin!

cheers!

Tesla - Song and Emotion

Good man. Not sure if it is classified as an "epic" but it's the only true winner I can think of. :)

GN'R has some epic songs. If I remember correctly I would say that Estranged is the most epic. I'm not a huge fan of the song, but I like how it ends. The song just has an eerie feel.

You could also include "November Rain", "Civil War", "Locomotive" and "Coma" in that category.

Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence

To me, this is THE epic song of all time. With all of the other epic power metal songs listed, I'm surprised no one said this one. A 14 minute song about Homer's Illiad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snwvpJ7DxyY

Others:

Virgin Steele - Veni, Vidi, Vici

Dark Angel - Black Prophecies (about Nostradameus - great lyrics!)

WASP - The Great Misconception of Me

WASP - The Heretic

Saints and Sinners - Frankenstein

Iced Earth - Something Wicked Comes

Nevermore - The Learning

Running Wild - Genesis
